@Scott_Ian Soundwave Revolution lineup. Playing with Van Halen. HOLY CRAP!!!

    Let’s Rock says:
“@Halen High “Give me a great frontman over a great singer anyday.” Dee Snyder over Robert Plant? No Way!”

NO NO NO – NOT Dee Snyder!!! HE WAS SHOCKING!!!

Robert Plant is a rock god – a great frontman. I just don’t see why some place so much importance on powerful vocals, otherwise Mick Jagger would never have got the gig with the Stones.

    Let’s Rock says:
“I think Roth is Van Halen but I do not like paying big money to see him forget the words(How in the hell do you forget the words to a song that you, yourself, wrote).”

Don’t be too hard on him. If I had been back stage snorting kilos of high grade Colombian – I would probably forget my own name:)

  • Halen High

    5152 says:
“Like calling in Mikey to do vocals, the way they did on Me Wise Magic in 1996. After several bars of torturous spoken-word babble, Mike’s powerhouse chorus kicked in and saved the song. And, I do have tremendous respect for Dave as a creative person. Just the singer doesn’t work.”

You are elevating Mike to something he never was. I’ve been a fan since about ’81 so I’m well aware of his place in the band’s history. I love the guy but he never saved anything. But like I said, the CVH era is obviously not for you so don’t torture yourself.

  • Halen High

    5152 says:
“Eddie put an end to this discussion in the mid-80s, saying that he just couldn’t express himself musically with a limited singer. We all acknowledge that Dave’s persona attracted audiences, yet, it wasn’t sufficient for Eddie, the musician.”

And Eddie failed – dragging the band through a decade of creative decline – believing it was all about him, the genius musician, when in fact it was a combination of his own talents and the unique songwriting chemistry he shared with Dave.

You can hear the lack of chemistry and inspiration in the studio post-5150, when for the first time they really had to work together to come up with something new. The result were albums consisting of 2 or 3 highlights with the rest being mostly forgettable tracks like Man on a Mission etc.

Rather than pose the question, “Do I really fit with this guy?”, Eddie chose a replacement singer who satisfied the criteria of ‘power vocals’, at the expense of creativity and imagination.

While he may have felt limited as a musician, it’s interesting that Eddie will always have to accept that it was only what he wrote with Dave that is ever cited by other artists as being influential, significant or lasting.

Does anyone know if Van Halen are doing any ‘side-shows’ (as meaning additional shows) while theyre in Australia??? (this is a classic situ with soundwave, headliners frontline the masses then do a couple of shows solo at various venues, most likely Sydney or Melbourne as there is a couple of days between the two gigs) According to a die-hard Soundwave attendee mate of mine, as theyre headlining they’ll probably be last on and play ‘mayabe’ a 45-60 min set – hopefully some classic stuff and some new to wet the buds – if anyone has a whiff of anything relating to any possible additional shows IN Oz….let me know ASAP!!! :)

  • Dancing with tha Devil

Does anyone know if they will be touring the USA?

Halen High, I have to disagree with you. Personally, I like Man On A Mission. OU812 is the only album that doesn’t hang together well as a whole.5150, FUCK, and Balance are all albums I can listen to start to finish. I don’t see any evidence of “creative decline” whatsoever.

The problem with arguements like this is that they’re subjective.

You’re right mate. At the end of the day, what we like to listen to and how good we think it is, is all about personal taste.

I’ve been waiting 30 years for this, bring it on legends!…

  • itchyscratch

Just reserved my ticket for Sydney! Woohoooooooooooo!!

  • ginganick

2 tickets for Sydney successfully procured. It is on.

Can’t wait to see the demographic for this concert. The only other act in the lineup that I recognise is Alice Cooper so I suspect I’ll be at least 25 years older than the majority of the crowd. That’s me in the corner with the blue rinse and the zimmer frame, launching my bloomers at Dave.

    just can’t fuckin waitttt
go vh!!! hell yes, awesome newsss!

  • Dave

Ok. I’ll be the very first person to acknowledge his excitement for VH getting back out there as well as putting out a new CD BUT…how is it that all is confirmed for Van Halen in Australia but yet NOTHING appears on the OFFICIAL Van Halen website. It has always been that nothing is official unless it appears on the bands actual website. I keep checking every other day to see and it still just says “Happy New Year from Van Halen 2009″

I am NOT saying it ain’t gonna happen…just wait to throw the confetti until it is on http://www.van-halen.com...

    I’m just saying…

    You bloody beauty!!!
Us Aussies get to see the first look of what I am sure will be nothing less from the boys we love!
Got my tix boys now come Down Under and let’s get the baddest rock band in the world warmed up for a kick ass world tour!
    I’ll take pics and post.
    PEOPLE, VAN HALEN IS BACK!!!!

  • Chris

Whats with all the Hagar hate. The guy is a better singer the Roth will ever be and they released plenty of songs that were as good as any Roth era songs. Sure there were some pansy songs but plenty of rock songs as well.

Just a shame Mike isn’t there with his backing vocals.
They better bring their A game or be prepared to get booed off stage.
I just hope they play plenty of the 1st roth era stuff that they should have been playing hear in the early 80s.
None of this Cherone style crap either.

  • drop dead legs

The official news from Soundwave revoluton is that there will be NO SIDE SHOWS down under as VH are exclusively signed to headline all 5 shows in OZ. At an estimated minimum AUD$1 million per gig, that’s nice little earner for the boys……got my tickets, cant wait – hoping to see them sometime in Sydney just cruising around if I’m lucky……I had to laugh, heard Motley Crue will be in Sydney the night before (24th Sept) with Bret Michaels/Poison as support (hairmetal a go-go)…. honey the kids have come home for a visit!!!LMAO

  • best of both worlds

I have high hopes for the concert in Perth….

  • Dude

    Cancelled.
