Roy Orbison featuring Eddie Van Halen – “Oh, Pretty Woman” (BRAT Mashup)

From BratProductions.com:

TRACKS:
Roy Orbison – “Oh, Pretty Woman” (re-edited album version)
Eddie Van Halen – “Oh, Pretty Woman” (only the guitar track via unnamed source)

DESCRIPTION:
What would it have been like it Eddie Van Halen and Roy Orbison had a proper duet on “Oh, Pretty Woman”? Well, I try to answer that question with this. This is the original 1964 Roy Orbison recording, with just Eddie’s guitar track from the Van Halen cover version. A bit of pitch and time correction, and a lot of little edits, gets you this. Play loud!

  • DiamondDean

Wow , that was was done extremely well , good on ya , it fits perfectly

  • Rob

    Yes !!

  • Sean V

    Very cool!

  • Atomic Pete

    Coooool! I love a good =VH= mashup!Well done!

  • hornfixer

Nice !! But, What is Kevin Sarbo ?? doing in the video ?? Did you put him in there too………………..

  • twh

I’m a big Roy Orbison and VH fan. REALLY enjoyed this one.

  • Tater Salad

    That was pretty awesome!

  • Keith

That was like … pretty cool ! Ed and VH always do cool covers. In fact, wouldn’t an all covers album called “UNDER COVER” with a picture of Dave emerging from the sheets with a hottie be cool ? I think so !

  • chriso

Every time I hear Linda Rondstadt’s rendition of “You’re No Good” I go thru a scenario in my mind where that excellent arpeggiated bridge from her version mashes into the solo of VH’s version then back to her’s, or a VH version live where Eddie adds the bridge from hers in right before or after his solo. Both are excellent-

I grew up in a household where my mom was a Ronstadt fan before she was famous, so when I heard the VH version for the first time on the Time & Temperature channel on TV I lost it when I heard DLR start singing it; Great stuff!

  • vaijuju

Cool ! Bravo , Very good work. The van halen’ cover delete a verse of the original song.

  • J5150C

    Cool!
BTW, is that the boss (Sprinstein) playing in that vid, as well?

  • http://heavymellowmusic.com johnny beane

    Good job!
Just wish it was all in the same key.

  • DavesGroupie

great idea keith I love it!

  • DJ

I saw the Boss too. Cool mashup! Better than both the Roy or VH version…love it.

  • freddiegirl

Oh wow….I really loved that! I always wondered what the VH cover would’ve sounded like with Orbison’s vocals, thanks for posting…:D

  • Dooley

I know I’m in the minority here. Loved both versions of the song, but mash-ups should be a felony.

  • Fear of a Sparkless Horizon

I’m with Dooley on this one.

  • DJ

I would love this as an mp3 file!!! Anyway to get it?

  • Jones

Mashups are completely useless. Please stop

  • coachgd

The video was taken from Orbison’s Black and White Night. Featuring Jackson Browne, Springsteen, Elvis Costello and others. Nice job with the mash up.

  • Ted

I love it! Thanks for posting this :D

  • Steve k

This is what we’ll be hearing for the next decade if VH doesn’t put out any new material.

  • Roth_Babe_85

Dave’s growl in this song is WAY SEXIER than Roy Orbison’s……the ladies always prefer the Diamond One!

  • Michael

I guess I’m in the minority, I thought it was aweful.

  • Pete

Man, keep working on Eddie’s pitch – it’s off. This would sound awesome if you got it totally right, now it’s just hard to listen to…

  • Scott

Keith- Queensryche did it 2 years ago.

  • MICAL VEE

Very cool!!! Thanks to my mom i grew up listening to pretty women and then when VAN HALEN did a cover of the song I loved it!!!!!!!!

  • f’n Rockstar

Pete..he had to change the tuning for it to fit the rest of the band. Its Ed’s original recording guitar track…it had to be ‘off’ or it wouldn’t work.

  • f’n Rockstar

Ed needs to stop ‘chasing’ tones and go back to this one. Sick.

  • Chewy

Is this Glee? I’m a little tired of mash-ups being news. Sometimes no news is good news. I love both but idolize the performance Orbison gave on this night. It should not be altered but rather cherished. Any somebody with fancy editing programs can do this, if you have nothing else to do.

  • Pete

f’n Rockstar – I understand, but I’m suggesting he needs to keep tuning, it’s still off. Modern software offers pitch shifting to make it just right. Peace… :D

  • DiamondDean

Love Eddies tone on DIVER DOWN

  • Phil

I’ve never been a fan of that song but this was done pretty well. Like Pete says, just run it through some software to get it better tuned and it would be even better. Well done.

  • ringostore

Very well done. In Orbison’s version, the bridge is extended, but in the VH version they omitted it. ‘Come with me baby’ is not sung here by Orbison, so it worked perfectly for the mash up.

  • umar

I don’t see how anyone should actually COMPLAIN about someone doing mashups like this. I thought it was neat to hear, and I appreciate the effort!

  • Fear of a Sparkless Horizon

I have a mash up idea. Dave’s vocals plugged into a Sammy era song. (do not misinterpret as bitterness). Something like Black Sand over Seventh Seal or She’s My Machine over Cabo Wabo. If somebody can pull that off, t’would be pretty cool I bet.

  • ringostore

Actually I hope to hear Dave do some Sammy VH era songs redone on a new album. I think he could do it, especially if it dropped to Eflat. At least on a tour would be cool too. “Why can’t this be love” would be cool dropped to Eflat and sung by Dave.

That is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

  • Dean

No longer availabel – come on – Orbison Music, don’t be up tight – from the replies it sounds like it was pretty cool – any one wanting to check this out was probably a fan of both Roy & Van Halen – I wonder what Roy thought of Van Halen’s version?
