Let’s Rock
Oh how nice it would be to go back to those days.
The endless parties, drinks, smokes.
But at the end of the night, it was about Van Halen and the music.
Now, the stage is silent.

Nay….the WORLD waits!!

Just goes to show that with Dave it was all about the Party! with Sam it was all about the music! wish we could get a mesh of them both! And to all the haters remember Eddie writes all the music so if you hate one era you hate Eddie’s music and you cannot call yourself a true fan of Van Halen only a fan of VH with a certain singer a true van Halen Fan loves VH no matter who is singing for them! All those who oppose Sammy or Gary need to realize that without them VH would probably be a Band residing in the where are they now file or whatever happened to… and all you people who say look at Sammy riding on Vh’s laurels what was Dave doing after he left VH? Without VH Dave would be a reality tv star Sammy? he’s a musician with a new band.Without VH Dave is a has been who’s theatrics are so passe! His solo albums prove this, so just remeber its about the music not the show!
John R
Now that is VH!!!! Alex, Dave, Mike and ED!!
keith
I dunno … pretty weak costumes for millionaire rockstars
mac vh
I agree Keith. No need to even dress up, Could have just gone as the coolest rock band ever!
Mark S.
Swingin Sinner, You have probably posted one of the most reasoned, mature posts that I have ever read on this site! Congradulations!
DavesGroupie
Sammy wouldn’t have a band without Mikey because the only people who listen to Chickenfoot are Van Halen fans! Dave’s solo albums -post Van Halen are far better than Sam’s or Chickenfoot!! Those are the Facts!
DavesGroupie
I love both eras but one is better than the other!
anythingleftinthatbottle
@swinginsinner-It is about the show AND the music. And Roth VH had them both. It’s all subjective.
http://thedeadhorse.com The dead horse
Stop beating me everybody! Listen to what you like and stop ragging on other people’s tastes. Music is subjective. ? Long live the Halen.
Let’s Rock
Finally someone gets it.
Van Halen is Eddie’s band. Dave, Sammy and Gary brought their talents to the table and the music was all good.
Mike and Alex were the staples that held it all together.
I have no problem with Dave or Sammy. Both had enough balls to pull Eddie back to the center of the Van Halen sound. Poor Gary had no choice. That album was written before he ever showed up.
And I will have to say, after another go around, VH III is not too bad. There are 5 to 6 good Van Halen songs on the album. But there are 3 or 4 Eddie songs as well.
On a personal note, The Nation lost a good friend not long ago. A good friend of mine past away due to cancer. He was a Van Halen fan (either Dave, Sammy and Gary) to the core. He often talked about VH III but I would not give in. After his passing, I spun it one more time.
So, to my friend MFV, I shall alway remember you when I hear “House of Pain”, “Judgement Day” and “Once”.

If Dave’s outfit was silver he would look like one of those cat-chicks he had on the Sam and Dave tour…..?
PS: Great post Swinnin’ Sinner! Well said.
Fear of a Sparkless Horizon
Wait a minute. This wasn’t Halloween. This pic is from Sammys 33rd birthday bash.
No, not really.
Fear of a Sparkless Horizon
At the top of this page is a picture of 4 talented 20 somethings looking goofy and having fun. Go back in time and ask any one of them if they would believe people are writing compative arguments about them DAILY and I’d bet they’d all say we all need to get lives. Yes, I’m speaking for all of us when I say, everybody BREEEEATHE!!!!
P.S. Mike is a class act
KTC5150
I just noticed something EERILY STRANGE… Is Alex wearing leopardskin underwear outside his pants!?

That pic takes me back to 1980, the Invasion tour. That was the fourth time I had seen them live, and every year got bigger. Four bad ass dudes tak’in over the rock’n'roll world. Going to a Van Halen concert back in the 70′s & early 80′s was alway’s the highlight of the year.

Sometimes I like to believe that heaven is unlimited beer, a cute girl (or girls) by my side, and a classic VH concert at the main stage (cloud #69) for eternity
But YOU my man were there when they were at their best and in their prime. I’ll always have envy and respect for cats like you!
You were part of it from the beginning and that’s just too fuckin’ cool.
Rock on!
jeff adams
Thanks Duck, I guess I was just lucky I was at that age where I got to see 4 of the baddest dudes on the planet in their prime. Now I’m an old fart, but nobody can take those memories away.
http://none Dirty Duck
Nah man….you’ll always be cool in my book!
As far as the age thing? Keep in mind that age like fine wine gets better with age brother!
At least I keep telling myself that as the years go on….

Yeah i dont think Dave was in costume at all
big bad bill
I was in 7th grade in 1978 the first time I heard van halen it was my friends sister who turned us on. The world of music changed forever. I went to my first van halen concert when I was in 8th grade in Buffalo, New York it was a religous experience.
It was May 8 1980 it was crazy, people were firing roman candles and throwing M-80s on to the floor. I was baked out of my mind. It was one giant party when they played the music was awesome. Dave would have a bottle of Jack in one hand and a joint that was thrown up on stage in the other. Ed, Mike and Alex would all be hitting off a bottle of Jack. I saved my t-shirt and ticket stub to this day. It was the best show I have ever seen and I have seen many concerts since then and nothing comes close.
The next year in 1981,and again in 1984. I also saved my ticke stubs and concert shirts these item are sacred.
When they say it was a party it was. no B.S. and this was Buffalo NY. Those pix do spark a lot of great memories. Nobody does it better.
