New Van Halen album in first half of 2011?

VAN HALEN – POSSIBLE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?:

It’s been a while since I reached out to one of my best sources of Van Halen info over the years, but it had to be done. And I got the information I was hoping for – independent confirmation from a long time source I trust that Van Halen are indeed working towards finishing recording of a long awaited new studio album with David Lee Roth, set for release sometime in the first half of 2011. A single is slated for release before the end of this year, but exact timing still remains very much up in the air. I’m told the relationship between Eddie and Dave remains as complex as ever, but there is a definite desire to get a new record completed.

Incidentally – I’m told that Santana will cover the Van Halen classic ” Dance The Night Away” on his next album of tracks featuring different singers (no word on the vocalist). It was suggested to me that Eddie would apparently still like to pursue this idea one day. I’m sure you’ll remember that little nugget coming to light via one of my reports nearly a decade ago now. Stay tuned as always…

    200 !!

    ATTENTION ALL VAN HALEN FANS!!!
Recently I was at Summerfest, July 2nd to see the Scropions (amazing by the way). I happen to stumble across a store that had these really cool posters. It had the band name, members, acheivements, and albums on it. I found a Van Halen one and it listed it all, including under albums was “Encore (2010)”. So whats the odds that whoever made that poster knows something we don’t know????

  • dlrevhsh

    mikey mo
i dont mean to be negative here but i doubt the albulm will be called encore. i was on the website that started that rumor and apparently they had an interview with alex van halen and he said they are calling it encore but that website also had other van halen interviews saying that dave lee roth was kicked out of the band and wolfie is gonna be lead singer and bass now. Now we all know that is totally BS they also said mike was back in the band. What im saying is that site just started some BS rumors including the albulm name being”Encore” thats why we never had a post on VHND about that name. So what i think is that the people that made that poster probably just heard that rumor and thought it was true like i thought for a while until i went to see that website it came from but im not saying there wont be a new van halen albulm i strongly belive there will be.

  • Brian

Sammy bashing Dave…it will never end.

Guys, as long as Dave is silent things are probably ok. It’s when Dave starts complaining publically that things are going downhill.

    Until then, FFS, CHILL.

  • Brian

    MikeyMo:
Is there a link to the poster somehow?
Encore in 2010, huh? Interesting that someone would let that slip, IF it’s true.

If it’s NOT true then it’s a collectors item.

  • JH2

MikeyMo, no way. Upload a picture of this poster to something like Photobucket and post a link to it on VHND! DOOOO ITTT!!!!

  • Dave

How about a live CD from 2008 atleast right now.

  • SonicDeluxe

I honestly dont care anymore if VH releases another record with Roth.

I just watched a very high quality bootleg video compilation of various live dates on the 2007-2008 tour.

Is Eddie playing good? Yes, but not up to the standard he left back on the 1995 tour with Hagar before breaking up.

Alex is playing great. And Wolfie is a talented bassist. But his harmonies are lackluster.

Dave? God, I’ve never felt so embarassed. I would like for people to know that I’m a huge, huge Roth era fan before the following is said.

I dont expect a guy to sound like he did at 25, but come on. Hes singing like a lounge singer through most of the songs. He looks like somebody that just got a lobotomy and is roaming the stage. Essentially Elvis in his 70′s period.

Im thinking to myself “People actually paid 200 bucks for this? Some people are really desperate to relive their teenage years.”

Say what you will about Sammy. But the guy’s taken care of his voice. He’s still a good singer.

BTW for the Chickenfoot Haters, I suggest you check out the Get Your Buzz on DVD.

Actually, you can find clips on Youtube for different songs off of Get Your Buzz On.

All the songs with Oh Yeah and Soap On A Rope being the exceptions sound much, much better live.

For example, the studio version of Sexy Little Thing I never cared for. But live, that song gets some toughness behind it. Same thing with My Kinda Girl. Although I liked the studio version. But live it soars.

Just a suggestion. I’m convinced most Chickenfoot haters will be converts or at least respect them after watching the live DVD.

I’d rather hear new Chickenfoot material live. Then hear a new studio album with Roth.

  • Karl

Do you think someone was trying to sell you a poster? What d’ya think…

  • Reggie

I think the Encore album will be dated 2020? No way anything happens next year, or the year after that.

  • Bluesbro

    This is hilarious, thanks :-D

  • bru

Eddies best stuff is long behind him. His best bet is to work with dave, he will bring out as much as ed has left in the tank for a new album.

Without dave, ed does not have much left. He is lazy, self centered and really does not care about music much or he would have done alot of stuff over the years.

If ed got his shit together, he could make one great last album if his head was straight. He is rich beyond belief and has no motivation to make great music. Dave on the other hand is wired much differently and has alot of motivation, he just loves music and touring.

Our only hope is dave stears this ship in the right direction and ed does not hold him back.

The only way a nw album could be ruined is by eds ego, so I wont expect much.

  • scottt

    Happy 4th people..thanks Tommyboy..(passin’ it on..)..rock on.

  • MICAL VEE

Looking at the classic VAN HALEN t shirts i’m suprised they have’nt released the 1980 invasion tee. That was my favorite.I still have mine and can still fit into it!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And the crowd goes WILD!

The “encore” album title was made up by a fan. It was just a rumor. Albeit one that never seems to die.

  • Adam

    FYI SonicDeluxe,
The vast majority of fan reviews & critic reviews from the 2007-2008 tour said Roth was singing great.

  • scottt

Saw them twice that year..flew out to the 2nd show in greensboro, 6th row. Fuckin’ AWESOME. Saw them later in Seattle in dec…not as good seats, crowd, or sound but still KILLER.

  • Chris

I hope this is true, I’m tired of feeling like Linus in my sincere ass pumpkin patch year after year…standing all alone yelling “I still believe in you…”

  • dlrevhsh

ya i think daves singing was good on the tour

  • lucky

    1. Dave sounded great on the last tour.
    2. Ed kicked ass on the guitar.
    3. Alex is a drumming god visiting from Mt. Olympus.
    4. Wolfie was good, give him a chance to get better.

Gigs aren’t always perfect, and some are better than others. They’re musicians, not factory workers guys… It’s an art form.

We’ll hear some new music, don’t get your panties in a bundle.

  • http://www.breakaswefall.com t1m

    1. Encore is an absolutely TERRIBLE title for an upcoming album. Dave will think of a much better one.
    2. I am confident that they are working on an album. After the poor quality VHIII, though, I am also sure they will be working hard to get it just right, which means it may take a while.
    3. Ed cares about music as much as ever. However, after playing thousands of live gigs for massive audiences and selling millions of albums, he doesn’t care about the touring, recording and promoting. He’s probably happy just jamming with Al and Wolfie at his home studio with no audience: that’s where the music is for him. At this point in his career, he’s making music for himself, not for us. He’s got nothing to prove and, as a fellow musician, I wish him all the happiness in the world.

  • avengermn

Who the F^&k cares. This will blow-up b4 its ever put on a cd. Eddie & DLR will not work. what this last tour was is a poor man’s Kiss concert. Long live what was Van Halen.

  • Matt from Australia

I believe it’s gonna happen…VH will release an album sooner rather than later. To those of you doubting remember:-

    1. After the tour in ’08 I can only assume the guys took a well earned break.
    2. Then there was Xmas…more R & R
    3. Wolfie had to go back to school and graduate (was that this year or last?).
    4. Ed got married.
    5. Ed had surgery on his hand, and…MOST IMPORTANTLY…had to recover for about three-four months!!

Yeah, some of you might say they still had plenty of time in between to write & record. But in my opinion, these guys all wanna be in the right head space, distraction free,to give us what we all want – AN ASS KICKING VH ALBUM!!

To quote Bon Jovi – “KEEP THE FAITH”

  • Al

YES!!!!!!! It will rock and we’ll all love it because it’s the MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!

  • Steven

Dave is not up to his old tricks. Eddie is just hard to deal with and has never embraced fully the idea of David lee Roth being back in the band. I remember in his interview right after the tour (that all went well), he said something like “If Dave is up for singing, we may cut some new tracks. if not I’m not worried about it, I dont care so much about singers, we can jam great without a lead singer”. So Dave has to deal with Eddie, I know he wants to stay in the band. He’s not rocking the boat, he’s just going with the flow and doing it on VH terms!

  • scottt

Eddie never said that, dude. Of course he’s embraced Dave in the band. That’s the only option left. No Dave, no Halen. Sammy’s gone. So that’s it. One of the things I thought was cool about last tour was Dave kept the banter out and they got rid of the bass solo so they could play more songs. Hell yeah! And they blew every band in the last 20 years away. As usual! Just look at it like the bonus round, folks. That’s why I saw ‘em twice cuz you never know, might be the last. Even in their 50′s, they still rocked the house and packed ‘em in. And without a new album even. That’s fuckin’ awesome. Who else can do that?! No one! Van Halen rulezzz!!

  • anythingleftinthatbottle

Steven, your right and that is why I don’t think a new album will be great cause Ed owns 51% of the company. Ed is an Icon and has become eccentric and reclusive in his older age. To much time seperated from the herd leaves you out of touch. Like bein locked up in the hole for a year or so.
SonicDeluxe unfort is a bit right too. Dave has been a bit loungish for last few years. But when I saw him on Sam/Dave tour, he looked too old to be in those tights. So, final analisis; He has got to find a place that is him, today! So some bluesy, Big bad bill, Ice cream man, full bug intro, whiskey home scats would suit them, but like I said before. I just don’t think that is where Eddie is at right now. Also don’t think Eddie plays anywher near where he used to play. I used to not be able to touch him on guitar. I could play the notes but lacked that extra ‘thing’ he put on it. The stuff he plays (At last time I heard him) which was on the 07′ 08′ tour, was sloppy and he was not ‘at ease’ as before.

  • Pierre

Can’t wait for an another album. But bring back Mike Anthony!

  • Roth is God

I admit some of the YouTube clips aren’t flattering of Dave’s vocals from the 2007-08 tour….but I saw the show in Cleveland and Roth sounded great….he hit the sustained high note right before the guitar solo in “I’ll Wait” and it was impressive. I saw Dave perform in 1999 and he didnt sound that good. Roth is 55 yrs. old so we need to cut him some slack, but I say he does a great job given his age and “mileage” over all these years.

  • MICAL VEE

David lee roth is well rested and ready to make a VAN HALEN album no problameo!!!! If you liked ME WISE MAGIC then your gonna love what the VH boys have in store for us now!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Karl

    ^ Tell us more…

  • snuffles

yeah, Mical, what do you know that we don’t?

  • Let’s Rock

    Really?!
13 years and counting (Meaning VH III was an effort!!).
    Hear about it later.
    The nation still waits!!!

  • john

Lets hope anything new sounds more like can’t get this stuff no more as opposed to me wise magic.

  • MikeyMo

dlrevhsh- I just posted what I saw but what you said makes a lot of sense to me because I figured the only people that honestly know about the “new album” are VH themselves.

Brian- I don’t know any links, i just saw the poster at a tent at Milwaukee’s Summerfest, it could be online for all i know but I just wish I had bought it. Didn’t have any money b/c I spent it all on Scorps stuff.

JH2- Sorry man, left a while ago, I wish I had thought of that, dumbass move on my part. Big dumbass move, i’m gonna kick myself for that one

    Karl- what do you mean?

all you people looking at this conversation still- sorry i didn’t post this right away, been a bit busy lately.

  • SpamHalen

I would say I’ll believe when i see it, but even then I won’t believe it.

  • http://www.finestfirepits.com/ Star Carlton

What in the world can they still be fighting about? Big Ego’s seem to never fade – haven’t they both been humbled enough to realize they need each other to be successful?

  • jon macvean

if vanhalen releases the new studio album encore they should also release career spanning box set all the unreleased studio album b sides demos from the vaults should have released this 20 years ago thanks jon macvean

  • Mark

Heard a RUMOR that one of the new VH tunes will be released on July 4th. I guess we shall see… :)
