“Cool EVH sighting @ Grainger!!!
I work for the company Grainger…and this was posted on our intranet today (3/2/10)…very cool!”

“Rocker Eddie Van Halen knows where to go to get it done! The guitarist stopped by branch 450 in Burbank, CA, last weekend after looking “anywhere and everywhere” for a particular clamp for a drum kit. “Eddie was WOWed that we had the part he needed, and we were WOWed because he was Eddie Van Halen,” said Branch Manager Jay Gomez.”

That’s what I’m talking about Kimberly – give em hell!!! Jeepers axeshredder, don’t play the Foot rules over VH game, that’s just lame!!! Can’t we enjoy both??? I’m sure that’s why the music was made in the first place!! Shit, there is nothing like kicking back with a cold one, a shot of cabo and a fresh packed bowl, while jamming to either the Foot or the bad boys from Pasadena!!!! Let the music do the talking!!!!!

  • Simon

“Why go to all the trouble, spend all that time in the studio and spend tons of your own money to record a new album when people are only going to complain about it or ignore it or download it for free on the internet? We might not record something new.”

“Why go to all the trouble…”

  • http://vhnd.com 51yr old fan

who gives a shit about who made the biggest impact on music or not. the music we love from ed was influenced by great musicians before ed came along. maybe without clapton there is no evh. the bottom line is there hasn’t been any new music and maybe there won’t be. just because he leaves the house and someone gets a picture doesn’t mean squat. at least i have the old stuff and chickenfoot.

  • http://none Dirty Duck

Well, by reading a lot of the negative comments around here, I keep picturing a lot of you looking like the guy above posing with ed….

    The negativity is ridiculous.

It feels good knowing I have more in my life going for me then sitting around a website bashing someone who’s done more in his lifetime then many here will ever experience.

No wonder I havent had much of an urge to visit here or post lately. Some of the comments are uneducated garbage from people who dont know shit about the band!

At least I know where I stand as a fan…..do some of you?

Thanks to the people who make this site worth the visit. You know who you guys are ;)

To the rest of you wannabe rockers: Pffffffffft

  • dude

I don’t have the CF album and I don’t intended to get it. The snippets I’ve heard are decent and I totally respect them for doing what they love. But no matter how good they are, they’ll never have the impact that VH did. The guys in CF are too old to appeal to the younger crowds to the same degree a 20-year old version of CF would. That’s just how things work. Most VH fans truly enjoy the classic VH because it’s associated with their youth. The fact that it is incredible music is absolutely critical too but I really think it’s definitely a factor of when you were introduced to it. For myself, I was introduced to VH around FW but the first VH I ever heard was Eruption. I was totally floored and hooked (“You had me at that first pick attack!) immediately. After that I got VH II and WCF. Then over the next few years I grew with VH, culminating with 1984. I continued to enjoy the Sammy stuff but as I was older it had a lesser impact.

Where was I going with all this BS? Oh yeah, as I’m in my 40s now, I think it’s great that the older guys of CF are putting out good rock tunes (let’s face it, the world could use a bit more rock these days!) and new VH on top of that would be even better (partially to bring back that great feeling of youth).

I guess I just don’t see the point of comparing VH and CF or saying one is better than the other. They are quite different and will each have their own legacy – with VH obviously having the more respected one (if you must compare).

My final ramble of the day is that I really hope that VH doesn’t tour again without new music to promote. That is something that will certainly chip away at their legacy. As I’ve said before, the VH of my youth never gets old – my kids are even getting familiar with the lyrics to “Take Your Whisky Home” – so I’m good to go with or without new tunes. Ed’s just a guy, not perfect (are you?) and probably just doing what he wants. Maybe he just loves making music with his son? Can’t see that as a bad thing. Sorry, was that two “final rambles”?

Rock out. Have a good Thursday.

  • http://www.cabowabo.com No Mas Tony

    I like Scar’s idea.

  • just the facts

What is the big deal about Ed buying a clamp.Lots of retired folks go out to the store before it gets dark.

  • dirty face kid

ed will go to all the trouble, not for the money, not for the fans, but for wolfie ,he will do it.there is no way ed will retire without putting out at least one kick ass cd with his son.ill bet ed has been dreaming of that for a long time..hang in there folks, when we get it, it will be good..i also think the thumbs up,and the smiling face are very good signs..

  • dirty face kid

P.S ,IF DAVE WAS NO LONGER IN THE BAND,we would have heard about it by now, fo sho…the vh stars are aligning.i can feel it way down here in the garbage can..

  • hip_replacement

He needs to grow long hair again

  • Jeff

Wow, if that quote from gadal595 is true (I haven’t read the article), it doesn’t bode well for new VH music. It makes me kinda wonder if Ed isn’t getting some feedback from this site considering all the complaining that goes on here. I’m done.

    - No Mas Tony, I felt that your Walmart story was in pretty poor taste. No mas!

  • ImTheOne

A couple of years ago everything everybody was dreaming of was a reunification with Dave and a tour with all the classics. Everybody was crushed when it didn’t happen in 1996, and everybody – apart from the Fatty Middler crowd – was crushed again when it didn’t happen in 2004. Back then, if anyone said: “hey, tonight you gonna see Van Halen with Dave performing all the classics, only drawback being it will cost you a 1000 bucks, it’s gonna be a nostalgia act and Mikey isn’t gonna be there”, NOBODY would have thought twice and wasted a second to get the tickets in complete excitement! Now suddenly it’s all nothing without new music, it was “only” a nostalgia act (bad bad bad), it’s only for the money, Eddie is this and that and doesn’t care about the fans, WTF? Ungrateful bunch. Let the man live his life, and if he has ego problems so what? He’s human. YOU never had ego problems I guess, you never fucked up, were jealous, envious, broke ties with a friend? If you don’t like his stuff don’t buy it. And seriously, what’s all this Chickenfoot nonsense? I don’t give a shit if they make 100 albums and “care” about their fans, I wouldn’t go to see them if I got paid, because they are BORING as hell. Chickenfoot doesn’t get you laid and never will. All this whining here about Chickenfoot and how “great” they are is just the envious revenge of the nerds. Sore losers that opted for the eternal second place finish and now take every chance to dish the dirt on true greats. Anybody who seriously thinks Hagar deserves mentioning next to Dave and Satriani deserves to be mentioned next to Eddie has some loose screws that can’t be fixed by argument.

Dear Eddie, I hope you will release some new music for us to enjoy, if not, hey, so long, thanks for all the great songs and memories, thanks for making up with Dave and thanks for sending Haggar to the pasture.

  • Russ Thorn

Concerning the quotes posted from the guitar world article, hasn’t it been pretty obvious that Ed has felt this way since the failure of the VH3 album? People blame Gary Cherone but the sad truth is that the album was ALL Eddie. Gary just sang the vocals and was a complete puppet. Seriously, would the album have been any better with Dave or Sammy singing those songs? Hell no. Ed won’t allow the chance of his ego suffering another failure like that. Hence I don’t think we’ll ever see another new album.

  • Kimberly

Oh freddiegirl I wasn’t talkin about you! Haha I can tell you are a fer sure VH fan…I am talkin about people with NOTHING good to say..you know? I mean I love this band TO DEATH..it hurts me to see people talk about em the way they do. I know you’re frustrated, but my goodness…they are people too..

Eddie even said something in an interview about how whiney his fans are…said it differently, but you think people would stop and just deal with it…

  • Kimberly

SCAR– Haha brothuhh I love your posts. SO TRUE! Here’s to the real VH fans;)

  • hunahuna

What’s ridiculous is the joy, hero worship, and conjecture that comes forth in this thread just because he picked up a part. “He knows more than all his techs put together!” “This is great!” Blah blah blah. But I do appreciate the humorous posts!!

  • http://www.cabowabo.com No Mas Tony

@ JEFF: ¡Que se joda! vete a la mierda!

In poor taste?!… ME!? — never! Hey, all I’m saying is we get this persona of Ed as the “guitar god”, with a legion of servants attending to his every whim. So when he’s seen making a mundane stop at an industrial supply chain… I just find it kind of amusing; Ed running errands around town. And how many of us married dudes have had the emasculating experience of grabbing a box of ‘feminine hygiene products’ for our honeys?

So, NO, not a slam against Ed. In poor taste? Maybe

    Fuckin’A brother!

Glad someone has the balls to not tip toe around the truth!

    Keep on rockin!

  • pushtoshove

Ed…Apparently you read this stuff….Thanks for inspiring me to play guitar..Thanks for doing the tour with Dave and Wolfie..Thanks for your music…Hope you record a record again …hopefully with Dave

  • http://myspace.com/timkarplusband t1m

ImTheOne said it all, I agree completely!

  • andym

ImTheOne – The fact that you are still using Van Halen to try to get laid leads us to believe you have a pretty pathetic life. Do you still wear your DLR spandex when you talk to girls in public places??? I’m guessing Dirty Duck is your wingman on these excursions???

PS – Sounds like someone is a little jealous of all the Chickenfoot fanfare. haha!!!

  • Tommy Boy

Nice SCAR…I usually begin with “Planet Caravan”, some Floyd then “Push Comes to Shove”,(holy shit, btw, if you guys don’t know and love this tune, you’re missin’ out), “Dirty Movies”, “Hear About it Later”, “One Foot Out the Door” and from then a plethora of any VH tune that comes on the iPod. I crank my guitar to 11 and play along to all of ‘em and have a blast. It would be much better if I could find a drummer that had Al’s mentality and precision, but alas, they are (very) few and (very) far between. If I were Ed, I would embrace weed with all that I am, never drink again, never smoke another cigarette, zone out and just played ’til I died. Peace guys n gals…

  • dirty face kid

IM THE ONE, YOU ROCK BROTHA.BEST POST IN A LONG TIME.

  • Dooley

So, ImTheOne steps in it (paraphrasing…I like Van Halen so c’mon baby let’s boink…yeah, that’ll work every time), Fatty Midler, Hagar is already out to pasture, etc. Who’s spewing the hate now?

And Kimberly, does it also hurt you when some people on this site talk about Hagar & Chickenfoot the way they do?

    Right on andym !!

  • Jack

Edward looks happy. He should be, his wife is HOT!!! Consumating their wedding, or new music…..no need to discuss further.

I’m not allowed to agree with someone?

  • SCAR

Im The One, open your puny little mind, most of us can appreciate the Foot and all versions of VH!!!! If you need music to get you laid then you are more pathetic than your parents predicted!!! Besides, I bet The Red Rocker still gets laid more than you Gomer and he is 62!!!! Later hater!!!!

  • dude

Warrant blows VH out of the water!

Come on, let’s vent on some morons who actually think this way instead of on our passionate VH selves!

    Rock.

Seriously man? You need to get off my dick.
I dont remember you having the balls to call “anyone else” out around here that doesnt agree with your views…

  • Dooby

You’re right Jack- Spend hours making new tunes or continuing the honeymoon with a hottie…..i know where ill at!!!!

‘be’ between ‘ill’ and ‘that’……sorry too much beer.

Hey, check out the new Lynch Mob CD, Smoke and Mirrors. At least George Lynch is still kicking ASS!!!

  • freddiegirl

    Hugs Kimberly…. :) Let’s make the boys jealous and have a hugfest… ;)
I agree, I’m happy that Eddie looks healthy and seems happy…his addictions and problems a few years back just gave me the sads. Whenever I think of the alternative, when I think of how things could’ve gone for Eddie a while back I’m just happy to have him healthy… :)

To the person who said CF was carrying the rock torch; yes, it doesn’t hurt to to have them giving rock music a quick punch in the arm.

  • sammyvanroth

imetheone(not)….if the pasture is a great life, great family, happiness, successful and profitable business ventures , i would like to be sent there too!

People that have an ego or “ego problems” generally tend to be in the top 1% of the most successful people in the world.

BRING BACK SAMMY AND MIKE THEN VAN HALEN WILL BE GREAT AGAIN

  • pushtoshove

Can you Imagine being a musician….Playing the same songs every night? For months and months???…must be hard to keep up the integrity …and the love…

  • gde

    ClubfootKolby…

That is the best advice on this board thus far.

Dave was good but it is over.

Unfortunately, Sam n Mikey wouldn’t touch Ed unless there was some serious soul searching and rekindling on Ed’s part.

  • http://cheeseburgerpicnic.com skutch

All this drama over a drum clamp. I’m going to bed.

  • andym

DirtyDuck – Where have you been man??? Try reading the rest of the thread…you’re not the “only one I picked on”. Maybe we’ll buy you a hankie too.

    Dooley – Thanks!

  • gde

David Lee Roth looks great…but sounds dull.

Wolfie is a good kid who needs to grow outside of VH. Go play in the trenches and master the instrument.

Sam is hard to work with.

Ed is hard to work with.

Mike is not hard to work with.

Al is not hard to work with.

Ed really sounds great and looks great. I hope he continues to do well.

Al still commands the drums. the professor of VH. Now and forever.

A Van Halen album with Sam Mike Ed and Al is what is needed.

However, Ed needs to give up some of the reigns. Play some Sam stuff. Play some other stuff. Play with a special guest. Let Wolfie do a cameo. Loosen up. Get it back. Have fun with it. Close with Won’t Get Fooled Again or some old Cream tune. It’s ok.

It’s up to Ed and Sam and Mike and Al to finish what they started.

David Lee Roth is not the future of new music.

It is a greatest hits tour.

And its too early for that.

  • SCAR

Fuck all this drama, let’s just think about Kimberly and freddiegirl having a hug fest!!!!!! Now that’s Rock n Roll baby !!!!

  • Canes_fan5150

I am with duck here. All you douchers that have nothing to do but whine about Ed are pretty rediculous. I rarely come here anymore where I used to check 6-7 times a day. If you want to be sammys ass bitch then go make a site for him. This is for VAN HALEN and Sammy isn’t in VAN HALEN.

  • DiamondDean

    Im the one respect.

I still hope they will release the greatest rock album of the last 10 yrs, i mean it wldnt be that hard wld it ?????????

Eddie will return , no doubt

  • Panama Red

Another late night with an insomniac brain. Now It’s time to waste yours. No seriously I don’t mean to aggravate anyone who gets annoyed with long posts. Just skip over it. Just waiting for the sleeping pills to work their magic, and I’m kind of in a bad mood.

Simon – That was pretty interesting how you pointed out the part where Eddie said “why go to all the trouble”
I wonder if it really has become “trouble” making new music for Eddie. Maybe those comments really were an insight to how he feels now. I Hope not, cause if that’s really his attitude about making music, than he forgot what music was about, and we’ll probably never hear any new stuff. Maybe he was just in a bad mood that day or something. We all have days like that. Like today for me.

I just don’t get his attitude in that interview though.
There are plenty of us who would listen to anything Eddie released and who wouldn’t download his songs illegally or whatever he was complaining about in those interviews. So what if not everybody likes his new mucic. That’s no reason to quit making music. Just make the music for you.
And of course Eddie isn’t in jeopardy of going broke anyway from people downloading his music. I mean, of course he should get paid for his music and paid well but c’mon dammit.

I think those comments in that interview may be quite telling of how he looks at it now. I mean at this point in his career you would think that if he was still passionate about making music he really wouldn’t care that much about the money. Do you see what I’m saying? Hypothetically speaking, if he wasn’t going to make money either way from doing what he has been doing (not making music) or putting out tons of music but not profiting financially either, don’t you think he would choose to create new music anyway for the love of it, being a musician.
Artists create whether they get paid or not.
And other people who are passionate about their jobs usually don’t really care that much about the money either (unless they are preoccupied with money for some reason, which a lot of people are)

I remember Larry Bird saying “They didn’t know this but I would’ve played for free.”
He said that because of the passion he had for playing basketball.

I wish Eddie would forget about money, wanting praise and recognition, the critics, and all the other stuff that gets in the way.
Damn, Life is too short for all of that bullshit. Can you imagine how many great movies, books, and music that would have never been made if people would have been to afraid of what others might think of it? Or if they were worried that someone might not pay for it or “ignore it.”

I predicted that I would be bitching in my next post about Eddie and I was right. My last post about Eddie was full of praise. It may seem like a have multiple personalities or big mood swings but that’s just how I work. I think it’s probably human nature, the ups, the downs. I try to make most of my posts positive but sometimes this shit just comes out. I don’t mean to be on the attack. Shit happens.
I’ll probably be in a better more positive frame of mind tomorrow after I get some f**king sleep.

Jim – I don’t mean to get to deep and philosophical, maybe it’s the sleeping pills (starting to kick in) but when you said:
“People that have an ego or “ego problems” generally tend to be in the top 1% of the most successful people in the world.”

I think that depends on how you define or perceive success. If you mean that the people who are in important positions such as people who are in charge of giant corporations, profitable businesses, military leaders, supreme court justices, and so on and so on then yes, you’re probably right. But not everyone defines success in that way. Some people might define success as doing something they love everyday.
Some people probably perceive success as meditating for 10 hours a day to find peace or connect with a higher power, which would basically earn them zero financially. But finances and bank accounts mean nothing to these people. It’s all in how you perceive success.
And in all honesty much more important and meaningful things can probably be achieved if you lose the ego and humble yourself like the buddhists and yogi’s do. I’m not implying I’ve achieved those things because I haven’t achieved anything anywhere near that, trust me. But it sounds good. And in the end it’s probably worth a whole lot more than the material stuff we can buy from being “successful.”
I think everything is about perception.

Just some of my thoughts on ego and success. Not trying to get on my high horse, I’m just an insomniac schlub typing comments on a Van Halen fansite at 2:30 in the morning. But maybe someday I’ll find Nirvana too. Except I’ll probably get distracted and lost along the way….

Sleepy time now. Apparently I need chemicals to shut the hell up.
Chemicals to wake up, chemicals to turn off.

This just in. Ed is back on drums, Al is playing guitar and dave is a helicopter pilot/EMT in NYC. The only good news is Mikey is still ROCKIN’ and i saved 15% on my car insurance by switching to GEICO.
