You totally kick ass man! Being able to sit down and listen to these guitar tracks makes learning Van Halen songs a hell of a lot easier than ever before for me. This is just awesome. Please keep up the good work and keep em coming!
Here’s my list if you care 🙂
Hear about it later
in a simple rhyme
take your whiskey home
loss of control
drop dead legs
girl gone bad
house of pain
best of both worlds
women in love
outta love again
light up the sky
sucker in a three piece
black n blue
and on and on and on! Quite a list eh!???
At 42 still trying to play like him, the king of twelve fingers on six strings, the one and only Eddie Van Halen! … I can only say Thank you for everything, guys.
VAN HALEN FOR LIFE!
Alex kicks ass, seriously… he has a very unique sound on the drums.
Stop it, you’re spoiling us! Ta much.
for the isolated drums, definetly need “outta love again”
please just do their entire catalog ok. Thats not too much to ask is it?? 🙂
Next time they tour it would be cool if they play one of their classic album’s all the way through like some of the other bands are doing. my pick would be VH1.
He can’t do the whole catalog, these are pulled from the Rock Band game.
Sorry, Guitar Hero game. Whatever. 🙂
bummer. i’ll take whatever i can get though
I love this stuff. It is the only useful thing to come out of game that is a complete waste of time.
I remember reading the EVH punched in on the solo to So This Is Love. I don’t hear it?
Does that game have “one foot out the door”?
It’s amazing to listen to these isolated guitar tracks 10 years after you THOUGHT you learned how to play a song, and find out you were playing half of it wrong. Eddie’s rhythm playing is probably just as intense at times as his solos.
“So This Is Love” is probably in my top 5 favorite VH songs of all time. There was always something so magical about that solo, and now hearing it isolated, it seriously made the hairs on my arms stand. Unbelievable.
damn i love meanstreet! my favorite van halen song…
This stuff rules! My favorite so far is I’m The One.
They should release a “guitar only” version of VH one.
Also Blizzard of Oz “guitar only” would be awesome!
OMG!! Romeo Delight just made me sh@# myself!!!! wicked!!!
This stuff is amazing. I got instant goosebumps when I heard “So this is love”… That guitar…. My God!
Atomic Pete…my fav one of these guitar-isolated tracks is I’m the One, as well…the guitar work is just awesome…young Eddie going for broke..makes me smile…:)
Hey Rob where do you get 12 fingers from? The guys good, but 12 fingers? C’mon!
Hey guys, this is off-topic but Im curious about something.
Today on the radio they played “Dont Tell Me What Love Can Do from the Sammy period.
I’ve havent heard the song in a long time. The first thing I was immediately struck by was for a song over 14 years old, it sounds really fresh and current. Two, the main riff by Ed is awesomely sick.
I feel that starting with F.U.C.K. then on to Balance, they were really starting to hit their creative peak with Sammy.
I know the reunion tracks were disappointing, But does anyone feel that if they had stayed together in 96, that by this time The Sammy Era would have a catalog equal to or maybe even superior to the Dave era?
It’s just when I hear such hard rocking songs like The Seventh Seal, Dont Tell Me, Judgement Day, it makes me wonder what could have been had Sammy stayed.
They were just barely skimming the surface with Sammy when the breakup happened.
So do you agree that had Sammy stayed on in 96, the band would have gone to even bigger heights than previously?
I think it would be awesome to hear just the drum track on Dirty Movies!
AMAZING- The first VHND post ever where everyone is in utter agreement! YES! This is what it will be like when the new album comes out… Thanks Mastertracks18!
p.s. we DO really want the entire catalog- there was alot of great guitar work even on the Sammy tunes… Sorry- just had to add that little stab for fun…
It’s fun to play one of the drum tracks while playing a guitar track. Sounds like a new song or a jam.
Amazing solo in “So this is love”!
I personally hated Balance (Just my opinion).
The last Sammy thing I liked was Humans Being. If that song
had been a jumping off point then….
I respect Sammy but I think his lyrics had run their course with VH
Yes, young Eddie rips.I would love to hear “On Fire Guitar only.
My jaw literally dropped listening to Romeo Delight … wow!
I love the drums tracks! Played “Mean Streets” drum track and “So this is Love” track together and it sounded pretty good.
I can respect that. Everyone has their own taste. I think if you take Can’t Stop Loving You off the album, and maybe Not Enough, Balance would be a complete classic record.
Im not a huge fan of Hagar’s lyrics, but I do think it’s unfair he gets crap for them, while great bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, VH Roth era, and Motorhead write ones equally as bad.
To me, if the musicianship can transcend the crappy lyrics that is all that matters. I mean look at Back In The Saddle crap lyrics, but man does that song kick ass. If I want lyrical deepness, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen are there for that reason.
Sammy Hagar also gets unjustified venom from Roth fans for the “ballads” You gotta remember Ed ultimately is the one in charge here. Hes the one who wanted to do ballads which drove Roth away.
Sammy only worked with what piece of music Ed gave him. I’d always thought if they had released “Good Enough” as the first single off of 5150, people would’ve been more open to listening to Sammy in the band from the beginning.
But that’s history now. All I know is if a Roth fan gets into a sammy sucks rant with someone, just play them Pleasure Dome, In N’Out, Humans Being that usually will shut them up.
If the “Romeo Delight” guitar track didn’t rock your fucking world, then check your pulse, cause you ain’t livin pal!!!!!
unclemeat80, I agree about the Sammy ballad thing. Ed likely wanted to do ballads prior to Sammy, but Dave was either unwilling or unable. When Sam got with band he was open to it so now the perception is he is reason they did ballads. Anyhow, I digress from the topic of this thread. Listening to the guitar parts really validates my long held belief that Ed is a spectacular rhythm player. It always bugged me that many critics simply dismiss Ed as a gun slinger.
Ricky Van Whalen – are you joking about not hearing the punch in on So This Is Love? The solo if waaaay louder for one things and has a different tone. I also find it interesting he used the octave pedal on So This I s Love, just like Unchained.
The rythym parts are so interesting – there is so much more going on in them then is audible in the full mix, though they clearly are there once you hear it isolated. People tend to plow through those chords, but he’s thowing a lot of root note stops into the phrasing.
The isolated tracks are cool. I have a slightly off-topic question though. That old kramer add with Ed, wasn’t frankenstien a fender strat with a kramer head? Hence it being called frankenstien in the 1st place? Just curious.
sorry for the 2 fingers in more!
No the frankentein was not a fender. It was a boogie body made of ash or alder. The kramer neck wasn’t original and was put on after eddie hooked up with them. The original neck got trashed or broken on the first tour and had been changed many times before the kramer neck had been put on there. Please people we are getting the pleasure of hearing isolated early vh guitar tracks, why mention your opinion of the balance album?Or how sammy’s lyrics suck,or what you had for lunch.Focus people.
did’t they play virtually all of VH I on the last tour with Roth?? I would like to see them play VH II on the next tour. Can u imagine them busting out “Light Up the Sky”?? Also u can tell for sure that Alex has a jazz influence based on his playing on Im the One.
thanx for putting this up! Fuckin inspiring to hear in that different light.
If I were to ever run a marathon I would need this kind of stuff pumping in my headphones!!
Fucking Alex has got to have some Negro in him to keep those funky ass beats comin!!HAHa awesome!
I love listening to these isolated tracks. (I’d appreciate some more bass tracks too) Keep ’em coming please. “Romeo Delight” F-ing Awesome! Can you imagine taking a trip inside 5150. I wonder how tight security is there. (Just kidding) But seriously how amazing would that be to walk around and fiddle with stuff (with Eddie’s permission of course) inside of 5150. It would be like my “Graceland”.
The photo they used here of Alex on the “I’m the One” track reminds me of trying to get the guy working in the drum section at guitar center to sell me that poster years ago.(I had forgot about that picture) They had it hanging on the wall, but he wouldn’t budge about selling it. Bastards. lol.
The original “Frankenstein” is pictured in the Romeo Delight vid picture above. The guitar in the ad is a Kramer made to
resemble the original “Frankenstein”.It was called that because
Eddie built it from a bunch of different parts, Charvel,
Gibson, Fender, etc.
Does anyone know if those Kramers (in the ad) actually went into production? I think Dweezil Zappa has one too.
I’m finding more and more than Eddie’s sound is much cleaner than I ever thought. It’s crazy he’s able to get that tone and sustain with such a clean, crunchy sound.
You can’t argue with the genius that’s isolated in these tracks, or help but be inspired by the performances, but the novelty is kind of worn off a bit.
We all know how great King Eddie is but after listening to Alex’s isolated drum takes of Mean Streets and I’m The One its astonishing how great Alex is!! Alex’s unique style of playing with Eddie’s guitar is just as impressive as Eddie’s guitar work. As for those naysayers that try to cheapen or devalue Alex’s role in Van Halen, what a bunch of losers and tone deaf idiots you lot are!! Alex’s cannons have just blown you to pieces!! I hold AVH right along side with John Bonham, he’s untouchable!! Alex is an original and a very unique drummer that doesn’t get the credit he rightfully deserves and respects.
The moment I laid my eyes on Alex drum kit in THAT video clip of JUMP it changed me forever…and for the better!! Trying to play the drums in the guitar solo section is as hard as nails to master and gets me every time of how great Alex is. Like it was for the generation that experienced The Beatles arrival along with Ringo’s iconic Ludwig kit, that was the same for me when I saw Alex on the TV screen in Jump!! He will always be my hero and inspiration.
Where can I download all of these tracks?? Old Van Halen feeds my soul. Hearing the guitar tracks alone makes it that much better. You can really hear the way Eddie digs into his strings when he picks and all of the subtleties that you wouldn’t hear on the regular recordings. I’ve gotta have ’em!
Amazing , god bless em
I want to hear the bass track on Runnin’ w the Devil!!! Isolate that bad-mamma-jamma!
Sincerely, Les Claypool
PS was anyone playing as furious as the Halens back in 78’…still fires me up after all these years!!!!…need more please before I die
Makes me fall in love with them all over again!
Alex Van Halen is an awesome drummer, his beats have a unique style that does not sound like anyone from his era.
In response to Ron, Where can I download all of these tracks??
Do you mean where or how? Where is simple, YouTube. How? Not sure how to do it Windows but on a Mac running Safari there is simple way to download YouTube videos. I downloaded several already and added them to my iTunes library. There coming so fast and so often I haven’t been able to keep up.
Sometimes living in the past has it’s perks.
Never realized how much reverb Ed had cranking out. This has inspired me to go learn so this is love. Just got a new rig and it sounds pretty close to ed’s old sound. It’s more of a mix between the for unlawful. … and vh1 sound. It’s a little more empty though. It’s missin something.
I think it’s fantastic how little gain he used back then, and how clean it sounds. You don’t get that feeling as much when the whole band is mixed in.
