From Pollstar:

Van Halen Tour?
Posted on Wednesday September 9, 2009 at 12:01 PM

Van Halen will hit the road in 2010, Ticketmaster Entertainment CEO Irving Azoff announced during the 2009 Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference Sept. 9.

This was not expected to be the time when the next VH tour would be announced, but some lines got crossed and the information was brought during the Q&A.

The Mighty VAN HALEN will return in 2010! Great news for people who miss this

  • Pat

I think this next tour will bomb unless there is new material. People are not willing to pay 100 bucks to hear or see jump, panama, etc. It has to be something new. good luck boys.

  • mkeruption

Is it just me, or does anyone else think it’s strange that a new tour has been “announced”, yet the “official” VH website has no mention of it? The home page continues to have a story about Eddie hawking his new Frankenstein tennis shoes from last April.

You would think that once Irving Azoff let the cat out of the bag that VH – out of concern for their fans – would have scrambled to post some update to their page in about an hour.

Bottom line: how firm are these “tour” plans? Did Irving let VH know they were going to tour? And if my memory serves me correctly I believe VH has planned other tours that somehow took several years to materialize and with different participants.

    Pat….sorry pal but your wrong.

YOU may feel that way but not everyone does.
I agree that ticket prices are ridiculous, but thats the world we live in man. Sad but true.

Guess what? No matter what concert you go to today its expensive. I saw “poison” tickets between $60-100 over the summer here out at Jones Beach Theater ok? Fuckin’ POISON tickets!I wanted to see “George Thorogood” at a “small” venue in my area and the cheapest seats were $85.00.
Do i agree with it? No. But it is what it is man.

Yes…I would see them again live no matter what. Why? Cause I love the classic songs…and there are PLENTY of them. MANY never heard live. Not looking to start an argument just shootin’ my view over to ya man. Life is too damn short to worry yourselves over WHEN, WHERE, and HOW LONG.
I waited over 20 something years to see Dave back on stage with Eddie and it was worth every penny! It was an experience I will never forget, and that to me is priceless.
Shit….I’ll try anything “twice” before I die! ;)

Just so everbody remembers what was said by EVH in February:

From PR-Inside.com: EDDIE VAN HALEN has given VAN HALEN fans cause to celebrate after revealing he’s planning to regroup with his son, brother and frontman DAVID LEE ROTH to record new material. The Van Halens and Lee Roth hit the road for a successful hits tour in 2007 and now the quartet is intent on releasing an album of new songs.

Guitar great Eddie Van Halen tells Spinner.com he plans to hit the studio with his son Wolfie, brother Alex and Lee Roth after his June (09) wedding to publicist Janie Liszewski. He says, “I hope that after Janie and I get married, and Wolfie graduates, that we sit down and discuss recording new music, which I have tons of.

“If Dave’s up for singing… then (we’ll) do another tour, and just see where it takes us. Actually, next week or the week after Wolfie, Alex, and I are gonna start jamming. Maybe we’ll give Dave a call and see what he’s up to. He’s off, always doing his own thing, and he checks in every now and then to see how we’re doing.”

  • BTD

There it is in black in white. Record then tour……..

  • sammyvanroth

BTD, i don’t like the way that sounds. sounds like a band of 3 and dave is on the outside looking in.

  • EdsDad

The name of the new album should be “Choking The Chicken.”

  • sammyvanroth

    choking edsdad’s chicken?

  • Rich

I can be hopeful of new material, I hope this isn’t a whole Guns N Roses thing going to happen. Lots of talk but nothing coming out. From plans to do a follow up to III in 1999 to nothing since then! A solo album was tarnished numerous times, so I hope this time they record then tour. They already showed they have the balls to put on good shows, now they need a record to support. I’m not sure many people would go and give another $93 million to Van Halen after having no new material.

If you’re being really cynical, these guys are just playing old songs from 25, 30 years ago. Thats a nice piece of nostalgia, but is it worth the price? Again?

And once again I hope that if Chickenfoot can come to London, then Van Halen sure as well can. We’ve got the 02 Arena for crying out loud, its huge! Webmley Stadium, Wembley Arena, Brixton Academy, any of these places would be big enough for such a huge band. Its been over 14 years since they were here with Sam, lets change that on the 2010 tour.

  • Mikey

What new album? when asked about recording Ed came up with bunch of lame excuses and now they are going back on tour instead.

If Ed really wanted to go into the studio and make an album with Dave now would be that time. I just don’t believe he does. Last couple of times they were in the studio together Ed was unhappy with it. Dave just can’t sing the kind of music Ed wants to record anymore.

  • blake

They need to make another album before they go on tour. What’s the point.I saw them in Minneapolis,Kansas city and Milwaukee on the last tour. Here’s a few songs they can skip if they go on tour.Atomic Punk-Pretty Woman-Little Dreamer-You really got me-Somebody get me a doctor.

  • Jor-L5150

  • VH 5150 Europe

    New Tour…. but:
    -with new album (new songs)
    -with Hagars songs too
    -only world tour

    Greetings.

  • Fair Warning

Roger, you seem to forget- DAVID LEE ROTH w/ EVH IS Van Halen! No room for substitutes.

  • Ozone

It ain’t Van Halen to me without Mikey, so…

  • pete

i’m sorry but without new tunes whats the point?

  • ClubfootKolby

    Bring them all back

  • Rich

I’m a huge Sammy fan, but the suggestion of Dave singing Sammy material is laughable.

  • justin

why do people automatically think that because a tour was announced… there is going to be no music? its obvious that it wasn’t supposed to be announced yet…. it just slipped out… so that doesn’t mean the are touring with out new music….

  • http://none Ducky / Dirty Duck

    Roger:

Many people snicker when they hear the name sammy hagar

The world SMILES when they hear the name David Lee Roth…

  • Simdood

    They could open for Chickenfoot!!

  • http://none Ducky / Dirty Duck

    Simdood:

If anything “chickenfoot” should OPEN for VH man.

The only “gold” album that VH has ever produced was VH3.

    And that aint sayin much…

  • KTC5150

OW!!! Talk about a slap in the face… But I do have to agree w/ Ducky… I honestly think it would NEVER happen, but I can see something like that on an SNL skit…Imagine that writing session!

  • Craig

Actually, Eddie announced the 2010 tour when a dude caught him coming out of a restaraunt in L.A. with Wolfie, Wolfie’s girlfriend, and Janie. You can find it on youtube. Ed talked about his surgery, new tunes, Diamond, etc..

While I’m here, I’m happier than I can say that another tour is around the corner. I saw six shows on the last run, four of them were in the first two rows, center. Big fan and real happy for Ed.
    Best regards to all,
    Craig

  • Sick4Tunz

Sammy’s Chickenfoot put out a solid album. Right now he’s up one. Lets see if Eddie can follow by puting out something new himself. If not, it will just be another reunion tour where they churn up, once again, all the old stuff. Sammy will then have them totally beat.

  • john

chickenfoot is doing their own thing and van halen is doing what they do best….write great music. you can bet the farm that Ed has plenty of songs ready to go…..his hand has to get better first, his son has to start writing stuff too

  • http://www.vhnd.com Christian

I am looking forward to the new tour.

Hopefully it comes out a new album.

  • ROGER

this will be the rock and roll hall tour we all so deserve,

  • Matt from Australia

    Here’s hoping we’ll see them down here…

  • Keith

Give me a break ! I dont want to see Dave again. HE CANNOT sing. Never has. Forgets lyrics. How about singing some of Sammy’s tunes Dave ? Hugh ? He can sing all of yours. VAN HALEN needs a new singer, bring back the original and best replacement MITCH MALLOY.

  • Remember the Prom Queen

As if anyone responds to the “old news”… ;)

  • Tom Sauer

That would be awesome to see, but words don’t get it done.
If you aren’t planning to live, you are planning to die.
    Get it done, Eddie.

  • JuiceGirl

    I AM WITH YOU DUCK…
The 1st reunion concert w/ Roth was my best show to date, and a long time I did wait!
My advice to ultimate VH (Roth) fans, I saw the 4th leg of the show in Philly, which ROCKED my world!! I also saw the extra added end of the tour show in Atlantic City, (they added the show after Eddie took/needed a “break”..I know the sound quality at the AC Convention Center is not the greatest, but the energy of Roth, Eddie and the rest..was very poor. I dont know if it was fatigue from the touring, (I’m sure it played a part in the performance) but they were not as ‘sharp’ or ‘excited’ as the first leg of the tour…which disapointed me. They lagged in excitment, Roth seemed not to care as much for the fans, just having his own good ol’ time, which is cool, but he didnt ‘give it to the fans’ like he did at the 1st few shows.
I know we dont have a choice of what leg of the show we are going to see depending on the city we live in, but there is a BIG differance with this band. 1st come, you get SERVED!
I am a HUGE VH fan, and if you are too, and ‘had’ to choose the poorest VH album, with Roth, (which is not bad, but I’m just saying, only because of the way they started out, and this album changed them with the keyboards because it was “in” at the time, would have to be 1984.
I know, I know…Jump..Hot for Teacher..good radio plays…and great for young, new VH fans to relate to, but…Eruption, Atomic Punk, Beautiful Girls, Romeo Delight, DOA…Cradle will Rock, (have you seen Wolfies grades…)SO very different from 1984 style.
Ok I would be curious what they could create now, but I’m sorry, I want to here my classics again! I want to relate to my moment in time when I was a younger VH fan. My 1st VH concert with David….there’s Nothing like your 1st…and I dont expect it to be that way again, (which I experienced in AC) I had a good time, (how could I not seeing my favorite band) but in a funk way, I wanted to cum again the 2nd time around too!
True VH fans always say, it’s David Lee Roth..he was the 1st, and my life changed when I was 12 and my brother played Ice Cream Man for me, (I like ice cream, I remember saying, this song rocks!) and I was hooked for life. Always dedicated to VH! But as a side note….I did see Van Hagar..and when he came on board…he fit them like a glove. Loved that show too! But my heart is the ‘true VH fan’ w/ David. He started it, and as of now, finished it. If I never see another concert again, I know my wish came true of seeing the true Van Halen together. I know it was nothing like the good ol days, but I saw MY band, and the $200.00 I paid was worth it! (would have paid more just for the once in a life time chance) I will go to see the new tour, if it will happen, but like I said, I know it wont compare to my 1st Van Halen experience!
(my only wish is to have seen them ‘back in the day’ before the 1984 album….but I cant change that)
LOVE YOU VH! Thanks for ALL the great times!
