Cabo Wabo Cantina Set to Open This Fall at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas

CaboWabologoSammy Hagar’s infamous bar and rock ‘n roll hotspot, Cabo Wabo Cantina, is set to open in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in the fall of this year. Cabo Wabo Cantina offers a blend of live music and coastal Mexican cuisine served up all day and night, for a party that rocks into the early morning.

Cabo Wabo Cantina will be a two-story, 15,000 square foot restaurant and nightclub that will replace Trader Vic’s in their highly visible location right on the Las Vegas Strip. The food and cocktail menus will feature much of the same items as the original cantina in Cabo San Lucas. The food will be traditional and contemporary selections inspired by the fresh seafood and local fare of Cabo. The cocktail menu will place heavy emphasis on Sammy’s spirit of choice, tequila, and will feature margaritas and other refreshing beverages perfect for coolong off in the desert.

Cabo Wabo Cantina will be the flagship U.S. location for the legendary restaurant and nightclub. The original opened in Cabo San Lucas in 1990, and later became the inspiration for what is now one of the most recognizable tequila brands in the world, Cabo Wabo Tequila.

“We are thrilled to be teaming up with rock legend Sammy Hagar in opening the Vegas Cabo Wabo Cantina,” said Miracle Mile Shops co-owner David Edelstein. “Miracle Mile Shops is one of the Las Vegas’ premiere dining, entertainment and shopping destinations thanks to our ever growing roster of exciting new tenants like Cabo Wabo Cantina.”

“I am ecstatic to finally introduce Las Vegas to the Cabo Wabo lifestyle,” remarked Cabo Wabo founder Sammy Hagar. “The cantina’s fun-loving, fiesta atmosphere will bring a rock and roll vibe to the heart of the Strip like people have never seen before. We are going to rock the Vegas Strip!”

The Van Halen News Desk heard a rumor that the grand opening might be in November.

I think this kind of news have nothing to do with the music and with Van Halen. It’s a private business of a man. Personally I don’t care.

  • SCAR

If any of us were EVH or Sammy, we would do it for the money too!!!

  • Bocephus

Be grateful we are still relevent 3 decades later…

    Any news VH related…is good.

Music, hardware, tequila, marriage it’s all good and relevant.

Funny though, no Dave stuff…oh I forgot. He’s in Fiji.

  • phillster

I agree with Bocephus.Anything DAVE`S been up to(since the tour) has Got to be 10 times more interesting than this.

  • phillster

    “I want my DAVETV”

  • David Alexander, Toulca Lake

The fact that Dave is no where to be found in terms of interviews means Van Halen must be working on something. Otherwise dave would be free to talk.

Eddie apparently has Dave on a VERY tight leash now. How things have changed from the old days.

Dave sees where his bread is buttered and he is cetainly not going to be part of a $90 million gross per tour without Van Halen. He knows he if talks too much and Eddie gets upset he is out, again.

  • Ronnie

Cant believe all the guys knocking a new place on the strip . Sammy is the most down to earth person you would want to meet and in innovative in many things and experiments with different sounds and vocals in his albums. It’s time to start the party. Mas Tequila

  • Joe

A Vegas Cabo sounds like a good time to me! Thanks for the news.

  • phillster

    Toulca lake DAVE:I totally agree!!in `95 (according to ed&al)
Dave said in so many words:I`m back&I`m gonna do exactly what
I did to make this band as Phenomenal as we were.=VH= “management”felt otherwise.Hence a decade+ of half-assed”best of`s”&aHorrible`04tour.(iwas there man,it WAS a disgrace)I gotta believe DLR has finally learned how to “play
the game”& back the playsED&AL wanna make.I just hope there`s
still enough”tension” in the formula to make another Jaw-breaking,Ass-grabbin`Revolutionary in your face album that we know this combination of talent has&CAN DELIVER!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/aarxn aarxn82

oh great, another overpriced Vegas Denny’s, with watered down liquor, that plays horrible early 90s rock music!!..wait a second, that sarcastic remark is null because i just explained EVERY resturant on the Las Vegas strip haha

  • doug

David Alexander, you are “dead on” and the fact that Diamond was a “no show” at the R&R Hall of Fame, cause Eddie was drying out…backs up your statements 100%.

  • Skutch

I thought Dave and Ed weren’t on speaking terms back during the whole R&R HOF thing. I thought Dave bailed because the organizers wouldn’t let him do things his way. He didn’t want to play with Velvet Revolver, which is understandable.

  • Skutch

BTW, if Dave is quiet it’s probably because he’s sitting in a hot tub somewhere counting his millions. I hardly think Ed has him on a leash.

  • just the facts

You just cant stop the Red Rocker.Life with VH was good, Life after is better.

  • Guitarman5150

I think Eddie just might have Dave on a short leash after all is said and done. He don’t want to rock the boat too hard because he don’t want to be out on his behind again. He remembers all too well what happend in 1985 and he knows it could happen again just like it did in 1996 as well. So the less waves for him the better. So he’s keeping his mouth shut. I would to if I were him, because at the end of the day, the name of the band is Van Halen.

The brothers proved they could make it without Dave and did it, quiet well, even if some didn’t like it. I think Ed and Al could do it again if they wanted to. So he knows he better mind his mouth this time. I love The Diamond One but the brothers proved themselves many times over without him.

I’m glad he’s back but as far as an album with their track record……………………. I’ll believe that when I see it.

  • Skutch

Out on his behind again? Dave quit the band if I’m not mistaken. Just playing Devil’s Advocate here, but Dave would probably say he proved himself without the brothers several times over. Granted, neither the brothers nor Dave had even close to the record sales they did with VH, specifically 1984, but I’d argue the worst DLR album is NO worse than VH3, period.

Dave had IMHO 2 stellar solo albums straight after VH. Dave did the Vegas act some time after that, which may not have fared well with the public, but he enjoyed himself nonetheless. Then became a paramedic some years later for the sheer excitement of it. Point is, Dave has steadily had times where he wasn’t in the spotlight and it has little to do with Ed.

    comments?

  • DiamondDLR

Why are people discussing Ed and Dave and speculating what they might be up to in a story about the Cabo Wabo cantina?

  • Skutch

    It’s more interesting.

  • Dave

The media hoopla since Dave reunited with VH has been non existent, no interviews on TV etc. Don’t be surprised if Dave has some clause in the contract to shut up. Without VH he’s not raking in millions, he needs them…Sammy doesn’t and this is from a fan of both eras. Cabo wabo is AWESOME bring it east to NJ!

  • Bocephus

I wish things were different and Sam and Mike were in the band. Dave is expendeble, but Wolfie unfortunately is here to stay.

  • edmvh

The reason vhnd posts these stories is that they relate to vh members. I appreciate any vh news.

I wish more of the news was music related. However, in order for that to happen, vh needs to get into the studio!

Thankfully, Chickenfoot and Sammy keep rocking.

  • Kimberly

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with the band…As for this whole thing, sounds like a fun idea!

    I <3 DLR..:) Just sayin’

  • Brett

This location is the best patio on the Vegas strip! This is gonna be a perfect spot for the Cabo Wabo. I’ve been to Trader Vics in Vegas and the patio is a prime location with an amazing view overlooking the strip and the Bellagio fountains. Cabo Wabo is gonna be a fantastic addition to Planet Hollywood. I can’t wait!!

  • pushtoshove

Kimberly, How old are you , what are your measurements? And do you like hot tubs?

  • Rocko

Way to Go Sammy, Cabo is a real success. Sammy is business and music combined like Eddie. As for Dave, Who Cares? unless we hear some new Music of Him, Ed, Al and Wolf and Dave better do a good job of singing like the 07′-08 tour and keep his hair short, he looks much better with a hair cut.

  • Bocephus

    The Future..

New album 2010…8.50 out of 10..

    Tour..2010-2011…same tour 7.25 out of 10..

    2013…Van Halen does a gig with Sam n Mike…in L.A…10 out of 10…

    good stuff ahead..

  • pushtoshove

    alot of Sammy haters here…

  • AJ5150

The comments about Dave being on a tight leash…you’re correct. Expect business(news wise) to pick up around October.

  • DiamondDLR

Expecting anything but BS from the VH brothers is pointless.

Yes, new music would be nice. Not holding my breath.

  • Benny the jet

DLR is the best frontman in rock n roll.A 2010 stadium tour with guns n roses will gross 250 million worldwide.Silence is golden!

  • Pete

CABO WABO = cool music venue and a damn good time. I think it’s awesome. Sam will bring some cool people there to jam MUSIC and other bands will have a really cool place to play. (As a musician it’s always a good thing when a live music venue opens because it’s just so much cheaper to book DJs, which is why live music venues are harder to find.)

    …but I digress.

SKUTCH baby…I completely agree with you about Dave. I will give him a hard time about some things, but his solo music rocked. I loved all of it. All his solo outings were better than III, period.

I would have to agree that Dave is no one’s patsy, but I also think he’s clever enough to know that if he blows up with Ed one more time there won’t be a “next time”, so I imagine that helps him from saying anything inflammatory.

But hey, aren’t we all getting a little smaller as we get older?

  • Kayser Sozay

Oh, I firmly believe that Dave is being quiet because he’s under strict orders from Ed. Think about it… when has Dave ever shied away from the limelight when he had a choice?? It’s not his style.

However, I don’t think – as someone alluded above – that Dave’s decision to skip the RRHOF induction had anything to do with being on a short leash. I think he bailed when he heard Sammy was coming because he didn’t want to sing if Sammy was also singing. Let’s face facts – Sammy still has the pipes. Dave does not. A lesson Dave learned the hard way when he did the “Sans Halen” tour with Sammy. The Velvet Revolver excuse was just pretext.

The ironic thing is that Sammy sounded awful at the RRHOF. Granted it was unrehearsed and with a strange band but still… it was really bad. Dave could have held his own that night.

  • Kayser Sozay

DISCLAIMER TO MY ABOVE POST – I want to make it clear that by stating Sammy’s pipes have held up better than Dave’s I was not stating a preference for either singer with VH. I love VH with both and there is no need to start “the neverending debate.” That was not my intention.

  • Skutch

Kayser, I gotta respectfully disagree. I just don’t agree that Sammy’s pipes have held up better than Dave’s. I’m not saying Dave’s are any better, but they certainly aren’t any worse. I think Sammy’s pipes are getting super wraspy with every passing year. The CF live clips I hear just sound strained and the RRHOF was just absolutely painful.

  • Jack Skull

    Hey Bocephus!

You can forget about Sam & Mike ever being in Van Halen again. They are gone, outta here, history!!! There’s no way in hell Dave will do or say anything stupid to piss of the Van Halen family, there’s 3 of them!!!! Couldn’t give a toss about Sammy, never liked him before he joined Van Halen and still don’t like him!!! But it’s sad that Mike chose to go with Sam which resulted in his self inflick exit from Van Halen, what was Mike thinking? I only have one answer to much boozing with Sam.

People say Ed’s the one with the booze problem (I think we can all agree with that, even Eddie will!!) but I think Sam & Mike are right up there too!!! When Sam said that Joe is better than Eddie, there’s no denying that the booze was talking there straight out of his big mouth and ass!!!! Sam is full of shit!!!

  • http://None Ducky / Dirty Duck

Whats funny to me is that NO news from the VH camp is so much more interesting than this garbage.

I dont give a shit about samuel hagar…his cantina…or his tequila.

It all reminds me of jimmy buffett, and i cant stand that parrot lovin’ fruit….

  • http://None Ducky / Dirty Duck

As far a dave not attending the rrhof….I’m so happy he didnt. What a let down and all out fiasco.

I was never so embarassed in my life watching velvet revolver perform VH music. How the hell can you not know how to cover “aint talking about love” the right way? Jesus, the song was released in 1978…none of those guys ever covered ity before!!?

And sorry sammy fans but sammy and mike doing “why cant this be love” was so embarrassing I had to walk away from the tv.
They looked like two big goofballs. As soon as I saw the orchestra behind them I was like…..this is NOT VH. So sad..

Dave eddie and alex did the right thing. The rrhof is a joke….

  • EBMusicMan

I get the name Chickenfoot which is a take off on their logo, which is a modern piece sign of sorts…so I give it a thumbs up for creativity. Any band that has their logo on the drum kit, guitar, bass and the floor of the stage is potentially gay though. Joe’s playing makes up for the fact that they have too many of their own logos…gay. Joe & Chad are really the only 2 reason to see Chickenfoot live people. I had a chance to catch them at the Roxy and I wasn’t impressed at all by Mikey’s vocal harmonies. His voice fit like a glove in Halen…not so much live with Chickenfoot.

  • SCAR

    and the drama returns………….

  • Ron

I haven’t checked the VHND for a month or so, so let me just make sure I’m up to date…

    1. Chickenfoot doesn’t suck now, but Sammy & Mike do.
    2. Dave’s towing the line, new music’s coming and is going to be the greatest thing ever recorded.
    3. The guys who actually have the VH name and skipped the RRHoF made the right choice. The guys who showed some respect by being there didn’t.
    4. Any business moves by any current or former members of VH is just a money-grab. New music (that we can all pay them for) isn’t.

Looks like this one thread pretty much caught me up on the last month, which was apparently no different than any other month.

  • EBMusicMan

I picked up the Chickenfoot cd as wasn’t too impressed with it…spun it a couple of times and then back in the case. Track 10 is really the only track worth listening to in my opinion. It’s too bad they didn’t gear the album more in that vein. If Ed ever does get off his ass and drops a new VH cd with Roth it will blow this bland effort away by Chickenfoot people. Not hating just telling it like it is.

  • Mark

Good for Sam that he is making some bucks.

Don’t understand why it bothers some people. If Dave came up with his own line of whiskey I doubt the same people would have a problem with it.

Just because they’re offering it doesn’t mean you have to buy it. Don’t like the Cantina, great, don’t go.

  • VH Scraps

Re – Ducky / Dirty Duck

I agree man. Dave, Ed and Alex NOT showing up at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is paradoxically now a Rock and Roll gesture. No matter that some of them MAY have wanted to be there, not going was in keeping with VH’s long-standing f*ck the music establishment stance. Dave’s whole schtick was always ‘I don’t care what you think, I’m gonna do what I wanna do’. Let’s hope he keeps it that way.

Since when did VH give a damn what critics or the establishment thought, or decided, was good? That was the INTEGRITY in VH. Only two inductees have not shown up in full – Van Halen and the Sex Pistols (the year before VH).

Dave and Eddie should remain silent if that’s the way they wanna do it. Why should they give in to the constant chatter and rumors of the internet.

You gotta remember that VH come froma time before multimedia saturation. How do you preserve the mystery and power of what you do if you are constantly ‘twittering’ about it.

  • phil

can’t wait to go there. i’m all for drinks, live music and having a fun!

  • Vanicionado

    A line a diapers, or Adult Undergarments…

    That would sell well here.

    Or… some brand of cheese.

You know, to go with the whine. (Dirty Duck… belly up to the bar, senor, belly up!)

  • Skutch

Scar, Vanicionado! Good to see you rockers again! THIS SATURDAY, THE CHEESEBURGER PICNIC is going on again! Bring the weenies, bring the buns, and we’ll blare some VH3 throughout the park! I’ll get there around 11AM to set up.

  • Skutch

TPB rules the free world. I watch that show all the time.

  • Bocephus

Sam Ed Al and Mike will play again some day…albeit for select shows..it will happen

Wolfie will choose to explore other options and that will open the door for the Boys to come back..

And Dave, well he is expendable.

  • Kimberly

Pushtoshove– I’m 18..measurements are for me to know and you to..find out? I dunno we’ll see;). And yes I quite enjoy hot tubs…same questions for you:p.
