    Amen Bocephus!

  • Enrique

    Honestly… I think it’s TOTALLY LAME!!! I don’t see the point of this… and don’t tell me it’s “art”!

  • AJ5150

Enrique…it’s just catchy. It takes all versions of Van Halen and mashes it together to make a Van Halen explosion. Roland did an excellent job with this. I like it very much.

  • Beau

The “Mean Street” riff goes together perfectly with Al’s drum groove from “Without You”

This was really top notch remixing!

  • Adrian

sweet love those beats badass =VH=

  • pushtoshove

I think its great anytime someone mixes existing music into new shapes and grooves…It shows progressive thinking…And thats what Van Halen is all about In my opinion….Meet us in the future not the pasture as spoken by Roth himseslf…

  • Jim St James

NICE MIX !!! I was suprised at all 3 eras being represented; with Cherone he had a TOUGH gig trying to follow up Roth and Hagar, give him some credit ‘cos I’m sure he honestly didn’t set out to suck. I am looking forward to the new album – hopefully they’ll finally get “Big Trouble” on an album..Roland keep mixing!!! Nice work!!!

  • Rob LeGette

I had all of Rolands Van Halen Mixs on my myspace!!! He had 3 of them. They have been around for at least 2 years now!!! For all eddie tone chasers it perfect!!! All the hooks and grinds!!

  • Bocephus

    Eat Em and Smile..

And make sure you don’t end up with A Filthy
    Little Mouth!

    Hah.

Only for the few who know.

  • Kevin Schuerger

man at 1:20 when he has “without you” and “mean street” i want to hear it like that for real haha

  • Ari

Nice job, love it all, but of course it once again proves Dave was/is the best VH frontman, and by far.

  • stew

Hey Scar come out of the closet! You know your a Sammy fan !!!!

  • Chris

    To Roland

Please don’t flatter yourself!! If you think Sir George Martin, his son and the surviving Beatles used your idea? Then you’re dreaming. Give me a break!!!! I’m sure I don’t need to tell you of how time consuming it is to do what you did. It would be very naive of you if you think it’s an easy process. All you’re doing is what club DJ’s have been doing forever.

You don’t work for Van Halen, so that means you don’t have access to the master tapes of their albums. Whereas The Beatles ‘Love’ album was an official release. In fact if you watch the making of the ‘Love’ album it was first put into motion at least 2 years prior to its release. So that would make it as far back as late 2002 when work started on it!! Let’s not forget the painstaking and delicate work re-mixing, editing and mastering analogue tapes that are more than 40 years old into digital format. That had to be done so they could then work with it on Pro Tools.

However, I thought you did a great job!! Particularly the very start until the Poundcake song section went far too long, but hey that’s my opinion.

  • Johnnyh

I’ve been loooking for this THANKS GUYS !!!!

  • Michael

I love the fact that the same group of people continually respond to all of these silly posts. (I’m one of them) This site has turned into a place for us to just vent our frustrations and desires. I hope that they glance at this site and see that there is people that really want to see Eddie rebound and give us something worthy of all of our waiting and wishing. We deserve the best that VH has to offer.

Nice Job, Roland! I agree with MJC. Everything belongs in there. Awesome. I absolutely LOVE the intro mix.

  • Jake

All those askin for no VHIII tunes speak for yourselves. I loved that disc, not every song obviously but 2/3rds of it, and I thought including “Without You” and “Dirty Water Dog” was very cool.

    Nice work Roland –

  • evhua

the more I listen to it, the more I wanna listen to it..

    again and again!

    thanks!

  • Top Jimmy

Rather than a remix feel it had a “cut the songs and splice them together” vibe. Great concept though. To my ear, it would benefit from a foundation rhythm part throughout, and the other samples layered on top.

  • chris voa

    great stuff Roland

  • Mo_Rephus

Number 3, like number 2 before it starts off ok, but quickly degenerates into a Van Halen noise fest. That may sound like a good thing…if maybe Van Halen were doing it. The first track this guy did was pretty good and I’ve purposefully listened to it several times in the past. I quite like it. Like the others it starts off great, but unlike the others that one has a more coherent (word usage?) middle and end. I think with number 3 he’s going overboard with the concept. It sounds overmixed.

  • Dooley

Puts the Jive Bunny mix to shame !!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/danwilhite dan

    Very cool…good job!

  • SCAR

Damn proud to be a Sammy Fan!!!! You got a problem with that Stew – pid?????????

  • http://rolandchayer.com Roland Chayer

I don’t care if the Martins took my idea or not… I know that I did it at least a year and -a-half before them and that I’ve used a lot more songs arrangements than them. They did it with 2 song at a time…, I do it with up to 8 songs playing at the same time. 55 songs per mix (hear my Classic Rock mixes, lots of Van Halen in them).

  • iwannaberr

    Nice work to Roland.

Again we are all reduced to rehashing stuff from the last 30 years to come up with something new. All we need is a press release from the VH camp saying something is happening now that the wedding and grad are over.

    HELP!

  • Ron

Dude! pretty good but leave out VH III. It gets going good then we run smack dab into a wall (Van Halen III) just mix up some kick ass VH!!

  • phillster

    Beautiful Babe, Never shave!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/peterdamore pdamore

Excellent! Thank you, the beginning hooked me.

  • Bocephus

The album will be announced..and it will be GOOD..actually refreshing to what is out there now..as long as Ed doesn’t get too carried away (think VH3)..they should bring a polished edge to the old flavor (call Rubin)..but Ed would never relinquish the reins to Rick’s vision. Oh well. Probably will produce it themselves, which would be a huge mistake.

The Tour will have a few changes..limited by Dave’s voice.

The news will trickle in at a snails pace, but Janie brings a fresh voice to that, so we may see a bit more Press than normal regarding the new album and tour..

    Thank goodness for the engineer..

  • iwannaberr

    Bocephus,

    Whaaa??

  • Jimmy V8

Don’t care what anybody thinks but the VH 3 album was Eddie in peak form and on top of his game. BUT!! Because of the mess and fallout of the VH/Dave reunion in 96′ a lot of people missed out on some incredible writing and playing Eddie did on VH 3 album. There are many little gems and brilliant musical guitar playing on that album, but it never stood a chance because of the reunion fallout. Oh!! and Ed is one fine bass player too…he did play bass on VH 3 album.

  • RA 8 1 2

    Bocephus-

Ed has always been more limited working with Dave because of his vocal range. He even said this in interviews. This is where the detuning came in to cater to Dave cuz he couldnt hit the notes. Ed always said that working witrh Sammy waqs easy because he was not limited to the things he could write because Sammy could sing anything. However, I am excited for a new album as everyone. If it sounds anything like the 2 songs on the best of vol 1 like Me wise Magic and Cnt Get This Stuff No More we will be in for a real treat! Those 2 songs probably had the best vocal range of any Dave VH song. Woo Hoo! Cant wait.

  • Fletch

    Not a bad mix.

Ooooo, if they produce a new studio album, how about naming it 2010? That’d be freaking awesome!

  • axeshredder

    dude you rule!!!

  • Bocephus

    BeerMan-

Volume I was a long time ago, while Ed and Al’s musicianship have stayed on par (if not improved)..Dave’s voice has fallen off significantly..

However, as I stated…thank goodness for the engineer…

Enjoy the new album…it will be GOOD!

    Awesome, great work.

  • Rick Bellocchio

Very cool that you can do that! Although I wish I knew how to do that, I think I could make a better one ;-) But I can’t and you can. Real good job man. It makes me want to do one!

  • Michael

How does this even qualify as “news”? Enough of all of this garbage already. Why can’t they just give us a little teaser of a song just to pacify us? Anything. Listening to people splice little bits and pieces of songs that I’ve listened to a million times does not do it for me. I’ve become seriously frustrated and disenchanted with this band as of late. I really hope they throw us a bone soon.

  • VH Fan (exept of GC)

Like Top Jimmy, I feel it would have benefited from having a foundation rhythm to make it more of a coherent piece. As it is (while cool) it seems to stop and start quite a bit. Nice effort/concept though.

  • mike

love it………..from an old school van halen fan, old van halen, new van halen, it dosent make a dam bit of differance, VH still rules, hopefully we’ll get a new album soon!!

  • mtnbikertx

The start of the mix simply rocks, heres a idea take all the guitar intro’s and combine them with a sample of the drums, make it something you can tap your foot to!! Kudos on the entire mix by the way, Great Job..

  • buffty5150

That mix kicks some ass! I like how all 3 singers are no there. Sammy,Gary, n even Dave. Good Job!!!!!!!!!! How do I get a copy of this cool mixs? It would sound cool in my car crusen n jammen it very loud.

  • KTC5150

OMG!… I love the mix between Light Up The Sky & Judgement Day… You have to do a WHOLE VH mix disc… That would kick ass! Keep it up Roland! Great work!

  • http://rolandchayer.com Roland Chayer

    To KTC5150…

After the 3 Van Halen mixes, there’s plenty of Van Halen goodies in my Classic Rock mixes…

  • Darren from Brooklyn,NY

Over all I did enjoy the mix, but I will say “Dirty watterdog” and “Up for breakfest” both are the worst of what VH has offered. The entire album “3″ should be omitted from the catalog as should the 3 new songs from Hager off the 2cd set “Best of both worlds”.I belive in my heart of hearts Mr. Roland you can do better, and when you do and if it’s a full length version like The Beatles “Love” cd I will pay for it.

  • Don

omg, wow… this is so excellent! now if only vh would put all these mixes on cd, that would be great!!!

  • rich

OuTsTaNdInG ROLAND !!!! 2 THUMBS UP !!!! PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING

  • Guitarman5150

Great job! Very creative work. I’d love to hear the others that you have made. Real catchy. I like the way you blended the 3 eras and made it work real well.
