  1. Kenny In Florida says:

Pretty good. Sammy’s vocals still seem like they are in their own world, completely oblivious to the band sometimes though. Kinda shows that there is a little bit of a songwriting problem in the band. Sammy and everyone else seem to two different visions of the songs.

  2. Big Bass says:

All I have to say is “Oh Hell Yeah!!!!”

    Okay, maybe one more thing.

Hey Ed, this is what is referred to as new music. Your sneakers may be selling well, but fans really do like to hear new tunes. Give it a try once and a while, and you might find that you like it too. Just a thought.

  3. RickieVanWhalen says:

    On a good note:
    - old time rock and roll
    - Sammy sounds cool
    - drumming is great
    - good to see the other side jamming

    On a bad note:
    - some licks are pretty cliche
    - On your knees before King EVH Joe
    - Just like VH - is there even a bass in these tunes

  4. Coyoteface says:

“Come on baby tell me what you want, come on baby tell me what you need”

Ya…we never heard those lines before. I give them a nine on a ten scale *cough*

  5. Nick says:

    Rickie…

Technically speaking, EVH can’t hold a candle to Joe’s ability. It’s not even close bro…

Creativity/innovation goes to EVH. But Joe is a much better guitar player…that is fact.

  6. Jim W. says:

Whole lot of creativity coming out of EVH in the last decade. . . I think Joe wins by default.

  7. Joe says:

Is this website going to be called the vh/chickenfoot News Desk? One album, one tour, and done.

  8. SCAR says:

Sitting around getting high with some Chickenfoot. Life is GOOD!!!!!!

  9. twown says:

thank god sammy is gone. i didn’t think his lyrics could possibly get any gayer, but lo and behold…

    worst… lyricist… ever.

  10. mad anthony says:

    don’t like it

  11. Line6Guy says:

Yeah I agree, let’s not even get into the lyrical argument with Sam…that’s just too easy! Sammy was never known for writing great lyrics. Christ a 10 year old could come up with some of the stuff that the Cabo Wabo clown does!

  12. Nick says:

    Jim W…LOL…good point!

SCAR…if you’re sitting around getting high at 1pm in the afternoon…life can’t be that good! LOL

  13. Line6Guy says:

However it’s nice to see Hagar writing deeper lyrics as he gets older…such as Soap On A Rope. Nice of Sam to break out the good stuff for Joe! Haha

  14. SCAR says:

Bro that’s the life of a self-made businessman!!!!! By the way it’s after 4PM.

  15. SCAR says:

See that’s the problem with uptight people like Nick, he thinks if you party, your not responsible. I’ve partied with some hardcore cops and lawyers, society thinks there responsible!!!! You can’t judge a book by it’s cover. Speaking of Judges….. lol!!!!

  16. dAVE says:

Munchin on a pound cake…up for breakfast…soap on a rope…..ya…Sam has aged gracefully. At least Roth had a little subtle nuance to his double entendres. Here is a thought…..GET SOMEONE TO CO-WRITE LYRICS Sam. C’mon man. Hardest part of being relevant is having lyrics that are. After 50 years in the business….rich, Cabo livin, Millionaire Rock stars have trouble connecting w/ the common man. Good to See Mike working tho. Good band.

  17. Dan says:

love the new song - stuff just keeps getting better.

    see you in Toronto!

  18. tl.12 says:

    Alright
We’re gettin’ funny in the back of my car
I’m sorry honey if I took you just a little too far, yes
    Uh too too far
Uh so I, I told the fellas out behind the bar
So let me tell you honey just how fine you are, yes
I guess you are . Yeah! thats real profound ! Listen Dave nor Sammy are literary scholars.

  19. Mitch says:

Sounds great!!!! When did DLR become the best lyricist ever? Jump, Drop Dead Legs, She’s My Machine, Yankee Rose, Me wise magic ain’t exactly Shakespere. . . . Sammy holds his own people. It’s really sad that the Sammy vs. Dave debate still rages on. Give it up people.
It might be harder to come up with good lyrics when you actually put out an album every other year. . . . (Just a little hint for Ed and the guys)

  20. Michael says:

The whole middle part of the song is tremendous. I can’t wait to buy the CD. I just love the fact that they don’t try to sound like Chili Peppers, Van Halen or anyone else. They just got their own, new groove goin’. I just hope that they last for more than just one record.

  21. Michael says:

Maybe they could swing by and play at Eddies wedding?

  22. Michael says:

And a single out to radio 2 months before the album - how Old School is that?

  23. Bocephus says:

After listening to the 3 tunes..

    Transplant Chad and Satch..

You have Van Halen what would have been present day.

    It is good.

They definately went after the VH vibe on this.

May have even been some lyrics done in 2004…

    Re-worked.

    Good though.

All 4 sound good. Success and Fun = Chickenfoot.

    Rickie…

“Technically speaking, EVH can’t hold a candle to Joe’s ability. It’s not even close bro…

Creativity/innovation goes to EVH. But Joe is a much better guitar player…that is fact.”

Nick, maybe joe is “technicly better” as a guitarist but he couldn’t hold ed’s jock when it comes to being a mus’cian song writer. i dont recall a whole lotta memerable licks from the bald one. indeed he can whale but listen to the bootleg atomic punks to somebody get me a doctors solo. joe wishes that solo poured from his fingers!!! if you heard it check it out. im not a hater joe is excellent it’s just like comparing marino to joe montana. marino may be technically a better qb but who’s gonna argue that he’s better than montana. my guess would be no one. unless your a miami fan.

  25. just the facts says:

I love all VH Dave, Sammy… To me I dont care about the politics, just make some music, go on tour so I can pretend that I am 20 again and get out of the house for the night. But the Chickenfoot fan club?. Pay $40 for concert presale info……….My God how much money do you all need.Sammy did’nt you sell your tequila for 80 million dollars. Mike/Chad your two bands sold what 120 million records? Joe ,I dont know about. But Jeez nothing been released yet and I have to join a fan club for the best seats? Who running the show Miley Cyrus?

  26. Nick says:

    TIM5150,

Satch made his bones being a solo artist, being strictly a virtuoso, not being in a traditional style rock band. Pretty tough to do. How many rock solo artist have you heard on the radio? Probably not many. Satch did it solely on his guitar playing…that speaks volumes. EVH had a way of writing catchy riffs and tunes, and being a bit innovative. But outside of tapping and a few amp/pickup creations…he’s not all that. He can tap great, but that’s about it, compared to satch/vai and others.

That makes Satch the better musician in my opinion. Song writing maybe not, but EVH isn’t the only one in the band either. But I’m not arguing that VH isn’t bigger…of course they are, and I love their music.

  27. Line6Guy says:

Sorry tl.12 but Feel Your Love tonight was on an album in 1978 and Soap On A Rope is on an album in 2009! Sammy is still going strong pumping out the high school lyrics & anthems man. What about that other lyrical gem Hagar wrote…”Oooooh Wham Bam…Oh Amsterdam”! Really Sam? Wham Bam? Ok dude whatever!Haha While we’re at it, what about those deep lyrics to Up For Breakfast? “She put the cream in my coffee…cherry on banana…” Ok thanks Sam…that’s deep buddy! LOL!

Sorry but you’re going to lose a lyrical argument regarding Sammy every time man…it’s too easy!

  28. Pliskin says:

Dave is a much better lyricst. Just look at these jems:

    You Really Got Me
    Ice Cream Man
    You’re No Good
    Pretty Woman
    Dancing In The Street
Where Have All The Good Times Gone?
    Just a Gigolo
    California Girls

Sammy’s got nothing compared to that catalog!!

  29. Line6Guy says:

    You forgot Sammy’s other gems:

Fight For Your Right To Party
    Baba O’Rily

You’re right though…most of those songs Dave did do sound much better!

  30. Line6Guy says:

    -2009 Chickenfoot Setlist(Leaked!)-

    1. It’s About Time…I wrote some good lyrics
    2. Learning To See…my solo career is dead
    3. Runaround…on writing better lyrics
    4. Top of the World…now that I sold my crappy tequila business
    5. Feels So Good…to be in a real band again and not a VH cover band.
    6. Right Now…Chickenfoot needs the help of VH News Desk
    7. Why Can’t This Be…better than Van Halen
    8. Take Me Back…Van Halen please!
    9. Not Enough…crayons to write my lyrics
    10. Big Fat Money…now that I sold my shitty tequila business
    11. Up For Breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, dinner, snacks, late dinner (I’ve put on some lbs.)
    12. In ‘n’ Out…of the crowd drunk signing autographs, shirts, hats and jeans during the show
    13. Feelin…like I’m going to throw up on stage from all the shots!
    14. I put out a lot of solo material after I got kicked out of VH but none of it was Good Enough
    15. There’s Only One Way To Rock…Diamond Dave Van Halen!

  31. Brian says:

Prediction, This song will be forgotten quicker than “It,s About Time”. Right now I will play some Roth era VH, Never gets old with this fan.

  32. BFly says:

    Pilskin…
Um.. I hope that you were going for sarcasm.. lol.. might wanna check your songwriting credits on those buddy!

Dont know if Dave ever wrote a Deep Lyric in his life.. but that isnt what he was going for…

Sammy shot his load on Mine all Mine.. But other than that he’s just doin party stuff too..

There’s too many recycled ideas in these new Chickenfoot songs.. both from Sammy and Joe. I love the idea and I’m sure I’ll get the album, but im not gonna drop 80 bucks to see this show.
Eddie will always raise more fur on the arm than Joe, even if joe hits all the right notes in the right order. I love em both and have most of what both of them have released. But you gotta ask.. are you gonna tailgate for hours for a Joe Satch show the way we all did for VH, (Sammy or Dave Era). It was an event.. It was an all day thing.. Its not anymore.. and it never will be. There wont be a band that brings that out in anyone.. There will be good shows, and good events with more than one band.. But there will never be an event like an actual Van Halen concert.. Maybe we’ve just grown up.. Best memories I have of my teens and twenties.
I wish em all luck, and hope that we get new VH music.. but anyone thats expecting better lyrics than this from Dave is in for a suprise.
    Go Mikey!!!

  33. J5149.5 says:

who was saying that this was gonna be comparable to led zepplin?a little hyped up don’t ya think?it’s good rock but it sounds like van hagar 2009.also you can say red is blue and blue is red with a “that’s a fact”statement tacked on the end of it all you want, but what is fact is that eddie is revered and highly respected by world class guitarists and musicians around the globe.

  34. soulsofzen says:

And right now it’s been how long since Van Halen released a full length album??????

Prediction: Van Halen has 10 albums worth of material…. Ha! Ha Ha! LOL! Keep dreaming……

  35. phil says:

scar, you are starting to be my favorite dude on this site. you are more subjective and positive then i thought you were in the beginning…makes your comments credible!

  36. Line6Guy says:

Bfly, yeah ol Pliskin was being a smartass…that’s why I threw back at him the two cover songs that Hagar did too. I hear what you’re saying about Dave but hell…even Me Wise Magic had better lyrics than “get a toothbrush..soap..and a comb..” “get your buzz on..” Soap On A Rope is Sammy in a nutshell lyrically…corny and high schoolish at best. I hope to god Halen puts out at least one more killer album to erase the nightmare that was Van Halen III.

  37. iwannaberr says:

I really wanted this for Sammy and Satch. What a disappointment so far. As I’ve said before, Satch is going to be the bright light shining from this band.

As far as the Dave/Sammy lyric debate … maybe Sam should do a break out speaking part about reaching down between his legs to get his pair of stockings????

  38. ROGER says:

hey pliskin you forgot to mention all those songs you listed for dave are all remakes, cal.girls beach boys ,dance the night away wrote by a girl band from the 50s,pretty woman roy orbison, you really got me the kinks, you dont know your music dave didnt writeone song eddie came in and rewrote the music, dave has no talent left ,if he ever had any.and why was the record label pushing vanhalen to switch to sammy as early as 1978?if dave would have stayed with the band halen would have died from to many remakes

  39. tl12 says:

Line6Guy. Me wise Magic???? Are you you being serious? Anyway, I’ll take the ability to sing anyday over the lyrics. A singer can always pay to have lyrics written. I agree that Sams Lyrics arent always the best, but you cant deny there are plenty of Sam Vh tunes that lyrically are “acceptable” or have meaning other that partying and cars. I never meant to suggest that Sam or dave for that matter are “brilliant lyricists”. Bottom line- Sam will out sing Dave.

  40. ROGER says:

line6guy where is this new vanhalen shit sammy eddie mikey and alex will reunite mark my words there never will be another cd with dave they have no old reels of new shit for dave to lipsinc to he is done! there better off with eddie singing or wolfie, than that washed up i mean washed up DLR!

  41. Skutch says:

    zzzzzzzzzz

  42. TOP GUNslinger5150 says:

Listen here Satch for your own good, “SACK SAMMY AND HIRE CHRIS CORNEL ASAP!!” I got too much respect for you to go down in the ‘Cringe of Flames’ with Ronald McDonald Sammy Hagar!! If King Edward sacked him (2 times!), that’s more that ‘Good Enough’ proof for me!! When you hear lyrics like Sammy’s, the man is nothing but a Corporate slut that uses music to weave his cringe worth lifestyle. The man is a fake!! It will be a pleasent surprise when at the end of this chickenfoot tour the headlines will read “Satch Quits Chickenfoot!!”

  43. tl12 says:

Nick- You are dead on! You put it simply and to the point. In concert Ed’s solos have been identical for at least the last 25 years. Where is the innovation? If Satch and Ed went head to head, Satch would lay him out!( I know thats going to set a lot of you off). BTW I am a fan Of all VH. I am just tired of people acting as if Ed is the only credentialed gutairist out there. MY GOD, people it’s not the 1980s anymore- Ed hasn’t done shit in ELEVEN YEARS!

  44. TIM5150 says:

nick, trust me i understand he can jam, but not the same thing bro. again it’s marino and montana. have you noticed no other bands have asked him to join? while people like him have been hired guns all along. via , cambell, kotzin, gilbert, and so on and so on….. i just think he is all technique and no soul…with the exception of always with you always with me!!!!

  45. tl12 says:

TIM5150: I know what you saying. There is a side of Joe that is “all technique” I got to say its nice to hear him in these songs. He gets to jam and I like that. Check out “Rubina” Theres soul in that song, even the title to “Flying in a bule dream” has qiute a bit of emotion. The fact is not all musicians ( Eddie included are going to hit a “homerun” every time

  46. ben says:

This are better lyrics than Mas Tequila, and that’s saying alot!

CF is trying to hard to sound VHish, sad really sad.

  47. Pliskin says:

I love you guys! Of course, I was kidding around. To be honest I never really liked most of Sammy’s lyrics. The same goes for Dave. I’m more in it for the other sounds and the showmanship.

I remember reading an article in the 80’s where Eddie was talking about how he didn’t like songs about serious things. I’m the same. I really don’t like to listen to people rant about war or homelessness or whatever. B-O-R-I-N-G.

I know you agree with me.

    How many say I… (lol)

  48. ben says:

I thought satriani had his own style but to try to be Ed is pretty lame.

  49. Andy says:

    This Song Rocks !!
    Wine all you want
    Sammy ROCKS IT !!
Sorry to all that is stuck in the 80’s

  50. Mr.BrownSound says:

Come on chickenfoot…does not even come close to being in the same league as VH…Ever heard of the “IT” factor?? Eddie has “IT”, Joe does not! Satch is a great guitarist, but just trying way hard to grasp the EVH vibe…Mikey needs to go back to VH! If VH EVER puts out some new stuff chickenfoot will be long forgotten!!!

  51. james says:

I was expecting these songs to be a little more innovative and not so re-cashed typical 80’s hard rock. My ears haven’t heard anything really different yet. Why, I ask myself haven’t these guys gotten bored with the same old formulas.

  52. soulsofzen says:

These anti-Chickenfoot posts are so full of it. First off the majority of these negtive reviews are from people that have been scorned by EVH’s empty promises that instead of facing the facts of reality, they tend to go with the attitude of “Van Halen can do no wrong” The problem is that Van Halen has not been able to prove otherwise. REGARDLESS of all the bitching and complaing that the DLR/VH fans cry about, there is no denying that VH is LEGENDARY, however, EVH has left them dry with no bone to even chew on. Sammy, Mike, Satch and Chad are making good on their promise to make their fans happy. The proof is with the new album that they are gearing up to release and tour in support of it. The past is what was. The present is the “RIGHT NOW” and Right Now there is no Van Halen. Right Now Chickenfoot released a new single. Right now fans from all over the world are excited for Chickenfoot. Right Now fans are listening to the new Chickenfoot tracks. Right Now Fans are listening to interviews about Chickenfoot. Right now fans are waiting to find out when they can get tickets to a Chickenfoot concert. And right now…. We have no clue what in the world Van Halen is going to do next other than sell high priced merchandise and keep us guessing like morons in suspense….

  53. Carlos68 says:

OH YEAH… Same ole same ole
Down the drain… the beat is rocking but not the lyrics
Soap on a rope… beat is rocking lyrics suck

Bottom line they sound like a VH cover band! You hear Van Halen groove all threw those 3 tracks! All that in between banter is Dave all the way!

  54. Coyoteface says:

I am not going to compare Sam Hagar and DLR lyrics by putting them under a microscope and count the - what DLR calls - the “lyrical misdemeanors”. That would be stupid.

It’s just that silly me who pictured these four well known and very experienced rock musicians to sit there figuring out how to come up with a solid rock album, you know, one that sticks out.

But when I listen to the music and lyrics, this album seems like just another Sammy Hagar album with some Satriani input. Life is a party Sam Hagar, and women are so yummy and getting high and drunk is lots of fun. We know that by now.

  55. garysamuelroth says:

Kenny in Florida’s comment (the first posted) hit it dead on - Sammy’s lyrics and vocals are not in sync with the rest of the band. I really like Michael, Joe, and Chad’s performance on “Oh Yeah.” Sammy’s parts are surprisingly disappointing. I hope that the three preview tracks are not the best tracks on the upcoming album.

  56. Karl says:

Jesus, there sure are a lot of whiny babies in the VH fan club. Also a lot of deaf babies too if you think CF are trying to sound like VH or Joe is trying to sound like Ed. Really guys, grow up and stop being so protective.

  57. McD's says:

    My opinion…for anyone who cares!
Van Halen is awesome…in all it’s forms (even VHIII had some small moments).
But they haven’t had a new music in 11 years…so I’m happy to hear the FOOT and support MA and SH in their new band…just like I’ll be happy to hear new music from VH…when (or if) it comes.
Those complaining about the VHND having FOOT stories…well those who have surfed this site in the past # of years when nothing was happening KNOW that having any new news (even CF news) is great and needed to see the site going…so many VH sites died waiting for VH news!
For the Satch vs EVH comparison…it’s hard to compare..they are both awesome guitarists each with their own very distinct styles…I don’t think you can realistically compare them…EVH is better on stage (or was in the early days)..Satch is better technically, who else could have a successful career playing instrumental!

Get over it everyone…news about VH and CF is fair game…they both have a core of VH members in the band. Hopefully the press about CF will at least tweak the interest of EVH to get VH back into the studio once Wolfgang graduates and EVH gets married in June.

  58. Terje says:

When it gets to the OH YEAH bit… (propably the chorus..?) That´s really nice. When CF play this one live we can all sing along to that part I hope.
    Great, great stuff….

  59. SCAR says:

Chickenfoot is nothing more than a good time - if you allow to be!!! Who cares if the lyrics are cheesy, that’s part of what makes Rock N Roll fun!!!! Long live the foot!!!!!

  60. Jimmy says:

Here is a thought…Let the music of Chickenfoot do the talking. The comparisons will happen between players…Chickenfoot already sits well, because they get major pub on a Van Halen site..more hits then their own site…In my opinion, they shouldn’t be compared to ZEPPELIN…Joe is fantastic…Eddie and Joe are totally different…Both great musicians. If they both were on stage in a guitar fight! Who would win?

  61. mjc says:

    you called it scar.

  62. Jake says:

Guys, I want to like this, I really do. I am not a big Sammy fan since the 2004 reunion mess that was Van Halen but I am a big Satch fan and love Chad Smith. I had high hopes for this but Sammy’s lyrics are getting in the way, they are total crap now. I mean they were bad before but they are total crap now. The breakdowns in the songs are cool, the guitar sounds are killer, the drums are great, and like always the only thing you hear from Mike is his voice, which is good, the lyrics just suck.

Come on Sammy, you have a second chance at fronting a first class set of musicians and you blow it again with your garbage lyrics about chicks and catchin’ a buzz. Yeah, Dave did, and does sing about these things in Van Halen but some how when he does it it is believable— Let’s go VH, I need some new tunes to get this stuff out of my head.

  63. Cmon says:

How does any of this sound anything like EVH?? Satch holds his own, and does not need to try and sound like anyone else. If you don’t like it don’t listen. I for one am happy there is some new music that has a rock sound. Enough with the lame-ass comparisions, the comments over the lyrics, and the pissing and whining. Listne to the music if you like it, if you don’t then shut the fuck up and go sit in a corner and wait for your new VH music- I’m sure it will be out any day now.

  64. Karl says:

    Well said SCAR.

  65. Line6Guy says:

Yeah I hear what you’re saying SCAR but wasn’t Hagar already in a cheesy lyrical, good time, band called his solo career? I guess I was expecting too much from this band but then what should you expect from a band called Chickenfoot? I’ll go to see Joe shred…he always brings it live!

“i just think he is all technique and no soul…with the exception of always with you always with me!!!!”

TIM5150, Joe is very soulful on a lot of tracks. Give these songs a listen and tell me if you still think Joe is all technique and no soul: If I Could Fly,Cool #9,The Extremist,New Blues,Flying In A Blue Dream,House Full of Bullets,Big Bad Moon,Rubina,The Mighty Turtle Head…

  66. Nick says:

    McD’s…I totally agree with you!

Jake…I with you. I’m trying to like it, but I keep hearing things like “I’m your hootchie cootchie man!” What a joke. From what I can tell with these songs Sammy is totally in the way.

I think Sammy needs to be more introspective…maybe he should smoke some of the same stuff SCAR is!!! LOL!!!

  67. Nick says:

    McD’s…I totally agree with you!

Jake…I’m with you.

LOL!!!

  68. Cabo Joe says:

I am glad Sammy’s lyrics are STILL about having fun, partying etc. That is the SH “BRAND” What the fuck do you want to hear at a rock concert or on a new album? How cancer sucks and it kills and pirates steal ships, and woman can be raped by their husbands LEGALLY in Afganistan?

Nothing politically, socially or economically relevant SHOULD be on an album that is a HARD ROCK FUN ALBUM MADE TO BE PLAYED LIVE.

Some of you guys apparently just don’t “GET” Sammy

Lighten up! Read CNN.COM if you want something relevant not VHND

  69. SCAR says:

Sounds like Nick and Line6Guy are afraid of being busted by the Fun Police!!!!! I’d toke and joke with Sammy anytime!!!!

  70. Jor-L5150 says:

actually , cover songs aside i always thought dave was very CLEVER. sure , some of it ( like ” jump ” ) is just bubble-gum , but he actually is one of the wittiest lyricists i know of. ” me wise magic ” is surreal. dave is consistantly good, and never takes his work too seriously. sometyimes his experiments ” fail ” ( commercially ) but its always …” dave “.

sammy has no middle-ground , its either filler/B material or the occasional poetic brilliance. ” right now ” , ” seventh seal ” etc. he’s good at the big-80’s party sound though. always entertaining.

    love ‘em both.

  71. Jor-L5150 says:

looking back at the posts , and listening on the computer i have to agree on SOME things:

    - where’s the bass ? hopefully its just because its on the computer . with andy johns doing the work i would have thought it would sound ..FULLer . probably just the mp3 format.

    - who mixed the tracks ? sounds like the vocal track is playing independantly of the music mix…. like 2 seperate recordings cued up at the same time but not ” mixed “…
again , i hope this is just because of the computer speakers and mp3 format.

  72. Line6Guy says:

Haha put down the pipe SCAR and “get a toothbrush..soap..and a comb..” “get your buzz on..”

ROCK ON! Just don’t fall off of Sammy’s bleachers man! ;-)

  73. Nick says:

Sammy has written some pretty good lyrics in the past. Maybe he was having help back then…I don’t know. But lately his lyrics are awful. The 3 new VH songs (It’s about time, up for breakfast etc.) were freakin terrible. They stuck out like a sore thumb.

I liked Sammy with VH, sometimes more than Dave…depending on what mood I’m in. But his lyrics then meshed well with the music. I don’t believe that’s true anymore.

Maybe he is just a little too “non shalon” these days, or maybe he just isn’t hungry like he use to be. Maybe living life without a care in the world doesn’t translate well to writing good lyrics.

BTW…I love the Chris Cornell idea…that would be freakin’ sweet man! For sure.

  74. SCAR says:

    Right on Cabo Joe!!!!!

  75. Mad Matt says:

Personally, I’m loving this new material! Why do we still have to take sides over this ongoing soap opera? And the whole point of this site is to report on whatever the former Van Halen members are up to, regardless of whether they are still in Van Halen or not, so there’s really no need to grumble about Chickenfoot getting so much coverage. Mike and Sammy are the only ones doing anything at the moment, that’s why there’s so many updates!

On another note, Satch is one of the all-time greats, and certainly not ’soulless’ or ‘all technique.’ As for him never being asked to join a band before this, I seem to recall Deep Purple wanted him as the permanent replacement for Ritchie Blackmore at one point, but Satch just wasn’t interested. This is the first time the chemistry has been right and I’m so happy that he’s been able to realise his lifelong dream.

And for those judging the group on only three tracks, Planet Rock radio have played ‘Sexy Little Thing’ and I can assure you it’s ten times better than anything previewed on MySpace or the Chickenfoot site to date. Still has silly, saucy lyrics (as you’d guess from that title!) but it’s by far the most memorable and cohesive song they’ve done so far and it slaps a big silly grin on your face. A reason to be optimistic!

  76. ROGER says:

HOW BOUT THE LYRICS FROM DONT TELL ME, I CAN SHOOT A GUN IN THE STREET IF I WANT SNORT ME SOME HEROINE.BALANCE HAD SOME DEEP LIFE MEANINGFUL SHIT,THEY HAD SHIT WE GREW UP WITH THROUGH THE80S AND TO 95,

  77. TIM5150 says:

i guess i was wrong to say joe had no soul. i just dont think he does well in this setting . like i said im not a hater i like satch, and have heard everything he has recorder and many bootlegs and many videos. as a player myself i think he is a genius when it comes to his playing, i just dont think he shines in this setting. not the way he rolls if you will. just like eddie is best in this situation (band) so all props to satch. i wouldnt want my lifelong membership to shredders international to be taken for speaking ill of him. but he’s not ed and i know that it’s not a competion but when people say ed cant hold a candle to him….well thats fuckin crazy. although if ed keeps tweakin and drinkin u never know.

  78. mch20s says:

Boy there are a lot of bitter people on here. Why all the bitterness. Let’s see, Sammy has been writing songs for nearly 40 years now. WOW!!! Who else out there has done that. But it was all really crappy…. nobody likes it. Boy there are a bunch of experts on here that have written that many songs and have been that successful. Oh, but I am sure that most of you have an excuse for that also. Enjoy the music man!!!! Get over it already!!!! If you don’t like reading about Chickenfoot don’t visit the sight. I don’t think Van Halen owns it… yet anyway. Some of you guys are hopless….

  79. ace5150 says:

It’s funny that all the Chickenfoot haters swear that this sucks and one album and done but at the same time they keep listening and keep posting on here.

    78 comments and counting…..

    Sammy appreciates all the hype.

HYPE- Whether you think it is good or bad your still talking about it.

  80. scott says:

i have the cd it rocks f off to all you loser when you here it its the real vh

  81. exodus says:

I agree and disagree with everything thats been written here…however, this is not VH this is a new band called chickenfoot just like the “damn yankees”(remember them?)…As far as best guitarist well, Ed is no Joe when it comes to solo careers, just like Joe is no Ed when it comes to being one of the best if not the best guitarist ever, and is in a band called Van “Fuckin” Halen. As far as singers, who is the one that made you listen to Van Halen? and that is who the best singer is…..mine happens to be DLR. He goes with Eds guitar playing…They are all good musicians but only one was born with natural talent of making you listen to his playing and that is Edward Van Halen A.K.A. King Edward….

  82. ClubfootKolby says:

It’s all good, bring back all the lead singers and have one great tour.

  83. Line6Guy says:

Scott, how did you get a hold of a copy of the cd?

Chickenfoot isn’t Van Halen…hence the name Chickenfoot. Unfortunately, the real VH has been dormant for over 10 years! The Nostalgia Tour with Roth was nice but I’m ready for some new music man!

  84. SCAR says:

    Scott - DUHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

  85. The blue eyed booger munchin Legend says:

    CHAD FERREL ROCKS!!!!

  86. SCAR says:

Line6Guy that DUHHHHHH goes for you too!!!!!!!

  87. Marcus says:

You really think chickenfoot is a great band?? There is NO COMPARISON between them and the Van Halen family (and Dave)aka VAN HALEN. I’m telling you, soon after Ed marries they will soon do a tour thats going to rock all of us. To those that think Joe is even in Eddies ballpark; give me a break! Any member of Van Halen could walk down just about ANY sidewalk in the world and IMMEDIATELY be recognized. These guys are WORLD/UNIVERSAL FAMOUS. Eddie can buy and sell Joe. Joe trained some guitar players, big deal. Eddie delivers!! Van Halen MADE Sammy Hagar famous period!! Without Van Halen he would be virtually nothing. Michael was good, but a bass player does not make a great band. Its the chemistry of the members. Right now the chemistry is right. Not long from now were going to see Van Halen surprise the world. Don’t you realize Van Halen is laughing all the way to the bank with the shoe sales etc? Its all about the almighty dollar. When the time is right Van Halen will rise up and answer the call.

  88. Line6Guy says:

Thought perhaps Scotty boy had some connections with the band and had a legite copy of the cd. Chill out SCAR and put on some Soap On A Rope and DUHHHHHH yourself to sleep!!!

  89. Line6Guy says:

Please…let’s not get carried away now people! The Chickenpoop music does sound ok but it’s nothing outstanding or special considering the musicians that are in the band. It’s mellow but it’s groovin’…unfortunately Sammy still appears to be writing his lyrics in crayon though. :-/

  90. Juca says:

They could do better songs than that!

  91. Carlos68 says:

OK That’s supposed to be compared to Zep as Sam said??!
And for those saying the VH fans are downing Chick, lets see what you guys have to say about the tunes when & if VH comes with some new material?!
I’ll keep it real just the same weather it sucks or not!

And on a side note with Dave VH was a ROCK BAND!!
With Sam they turned into a pop band!! It’s a problem when you the the Mighty Van Halen from how you remember them back in the day playing on an easy listening station!

  92. Jake says:

Yeah guys I listened to it again because I wanted to try hand have an open mind about the tunes and my opinion stands. Satch is great and there is some nice playing on here but god are the lyrics terrible. One person posted about the three VH tunes done in 2004 and that is what did it for me with Sammy. I was stoked to hear he was back in the band in 2004 becuase I liked his material with VH very much (Good Enough, 5150, Black-n-Blue, Seventh Seal, Don’t Tell Me, Spanked, Runaround, etc.) but then I heard “About Time” and “Up For Breakfast” and just couldn’t believe how bad his lyrics had gotten.

Look, say what you want about having fun and living a lifestyle, that is great and man I love throwin em’ back with the best of them but when it comes to music though, having thought provoking material every once in a while is nice, it keeps your wheels spinning and adds balance to the record. “Spanked” was a silly tune on For Unlawful but it also sat next to tunes like “In and Out” and “Right Now” which had a different lyrical vibe. The Sammy portion of Chickenfoot is a one-trick pony with nothing thought provoking at all, at least on the three tracks I’ve heard.

Sorry Sam, you have lost it kid and again I can not wait to hear what Eddie and Dave have cookin’. If “Me Wise Magic” and “Can’t Get This Stuff No More” are any indicator of what they have left in the tank, we are in for some good stuff, and it is worth the wait. I hear everyone sayin’ that VH haven’t released anything in 10 years, well 11 now, and your right, but I’ll tell you I would rather they not if all they are going to do is crank out the crap that Sammy has been pushing since he was kicked out of VH in 96′. Have you heard his latest material aside from Chickenfoot? It is terrible. It makes his lyrics on the CF tunes sound good, and that is not saying much at all.

  94. Nick says:

Marcus…get a clue man. I won’t argue that EVH is more famous than Satch…that wasn’t my original point. I was speaking to his skill. From the sounds of it, I don’t think you’ve really heard much of Satch’s stuff. For rock guitar players…it’s a must!

Satch trained some of the best guitar players in the world!! That’s a huge deal! Ed couldn’t train anyone, because he does not use a proper technique…and cheats to gain a specific sound (see Little Guitars).

I love Ed’s sound, and you can’t beat his riffs and catchy rock tunes. I love it.

But he’s not the BEST in the world…not even close! How many times to we need to hear the same solo in concert? It’s the same thing over and over, with sometimes more noise then others, but still the same nonetheless. Eruption…noise…Catherdral…noise…then the last part of Eruption. Satch has ALBUMS worth of solo, and many are different, have soul…and are technically superior.

I love VH, always have. Thats why I tune into this website everyday. Well that, and I guess because I like the drama too. There it is…change the site to “All of my ‘Van Halen’ Children!!”

  95. exodus says:

Joe took a step back instead of forward when he joined the band. This day in age having Sammy as a singer is a step backwards if you ask me. They should just erase all the lyrics and have Joe fill the void with his guitar and then I’ll think about buying the album(sorry Sammy). Don’t be the old athlete that doesn’t know when to quit. Just go drive your ferraris and spend your millions, buy some of Michaels hot sauce and make your self a bloody mary with your tequila.
You were nothing without VH and you’re beggining to get on my freakin’ nerves……

  96. Nick says:

And Marcus…Brittney Spears is world famous too! That doesn’t mean she has a great voice!

  97. SCAR says:

Hey Line6guy are you that gullible????? Sounds like you are!!! DEE DEE DEE!!!!!

  98. tim5150 says:

nick i think you are somewhat right when it comes to satch ed comparison, except i do believe ed is one of the best “ROCK” guitarist in the world and i dont hitnk joe is. ed is all about tone and feel and unbelievable riffs and hooks which he seemed to be able to pull out at any given time. they are getting fewer and farther in between i will admit. as for his solo he has always said that he feels like he has to do the medley of eruption cathedral and little guitars because thats what the fans want. he couldnt be more wrong. we are tired of the solo. but every once in a while he reminds us why we love him. on the balance tour i saw them in miami and hagar had a sore throat and told everyone before the show he was going to battle threw it. holy crap!!!ed picked up all the places sammy fell off, and let me tell you he hadnt played like that since monsters of rock. it was amazing! off the hip fallen down the stairs and landing on your feet stuff. actualy i bet he hadnt played like that since the 84 tour. i know he still has it in him. i just think he tends to rest on his laurels unless pushed ie. monsters of rock when you had metalica, george lynch pushing his ass. or when your facing everyone saying the show blew because sam couldnt sing. my point when on he is the king of live blues ” call and resonse” improv. guitar. period!

  99. theREALchris says:

    Exodus-

Dude, you don’t make bloody marys with tequila. That’s just……wrong, man.

  100. theREALchris says:

Scratch that…apparently a “Bloody Maria” is a bloody mary with tequila instead of vodka. Excuse me while I vomit.

  101. ace5150 says:

    100 comments and counting!!

We all know Sammy did his best work with Eddie. The two of them had more top then hits than any songwriting duo in history other than Page and Plant.

You really can’t count the three tracks from 2004 because they were rushed out to get on the Best of Both Worlds album, they were in a hurry to tour, and Eddie was a pathetic mess.

I personally like the new CF tracks. I like “Down the Drain” better than “Oh Yeah” but I have only heard the new one once so I’ll give it another listen.

I think before anybody trashes Sammy’s songwriting ability they should give the WHOLE album a listen.

  102. Bocephus says:

    Absolutely Fantastic.

    All of Em’

Now that’s why we rule the roost ladies and gents.

    Nobody touched us. Nobody.

Too bad the best is over.

    But heh ya never know.

  103. Skutch says:

Juca, I have to disagree with your last post that said, “they can do better songs than that”.

    Apparently, they can’t.

  104. Nick says:

    Tim5150,

I agree with you man, exept for the fact that they are BOTH rock guitarists. As a soloist, you’ll never draw in the amount of people that you will as a rock band. You just won’t. Satch’s stuff you sit in a room by yourself and just listen, and study what he is doing with a sense of amazment.

VH on the other hand, thats what you’d listen to with your friends, or what you had on the radio while you where taking your girl out or whatever back in the day. Those were great memories. You don’t get that kind of stuff with solo artists.

For me with Satch…it’s about the musical quality and skill.

For VH, it’s much more. It was a feeling.

But Satch is a better guitarist for all the things I’ve stated…he can do things with it that Ed could never dream of (like his ridiculous runs). But that’s not all that matters, either.

  105. Line6Guy says:

Jake you nailed it on the head with Sammy. Those last three songs he wrote that made the Best of Both Worlds CD in 04 were lyrically painful to listen to, especially that turd he wrote called Up For Breakfast! “Cream in my coffee…cherry on banana..” “butter me up…butter me up..” Whoo hoo rock on Sam! That song was so typical of Van Hagar…lame, stupid & embarrassing. Only Hagar can write a song about sex and have it end up with lyrics about food…fucking retarded! No wonder Ed was drinking heavily on that 04 Tour…the Cabo Wabo Clown was fronting the band again!

It’s nice to see that Sammy hasn’t lost his touch though and he can still write material like “Soap On A Rope” that entertains people like SCAR!

  106. Skutch says:

Line6guy for prez 2012. He rules!

  107. 5 Cents says:

    It rocks! Just enjoy it.

  108. exodus says:

    theREALchris,,,LOL…

  109. exodus says:

this is just another cover band that will cover old van halen and the red hot chili peppers

  110. BuckWayne2u says:

Sammy ROCKS! No Doubt!…But the mere sensibility of comparing him to the Almighty Van Halen is STUPID! David Lee Roth is BACK with THREE Van Halen musicians…ONLY an idiot would ignore such a historic moment in Rock and Roll history! Its ALMOST like a freakin’ Beatles renunion dammit! Get over it!
    Buck Wayne

  111. TL12 says:

Hey ACE you got it right about all the Cf haters posting on here. Hey, what else do the have to do? Their “Mighty VH” isn’t exactly putting out any new tunes. Nick, I couldn’t agree more with you. Ed has been doin the same crappy solo for at least 25 years- some innovator. I am a fan and have been since 78. I guess I am tired of the same old stuff, my god it 2009, not 1982.

  112. Line6Guy says:

We all know that Van Halen is long overdue to make an album but unlike Hagar, I’d rather the group take their time and make a great new album…not just pump out crap year after year that’s not interesting…something that the Cabo Wabo Clown specializes in! Ten 13, Not For Sale, Livin’ It Up, Cosmic Universal Dud…need I say more?

  113. walteR says:

Hey ‘Line6Guy’,, wake up buddy, VH will not do another album. They are burnt out and tired. Sammy on the other hand is still having fun with what he’s doing.. He’s hanging out with his friends making music.. If his songs suck(in your opinion) don’t listen… There are lots of people in the world who actually like what he’s doing…

  114. Line6Guy says:

“VH will not do another album.”

Wow and you know this for a fact walteR? Did you speak with Ed personally and visit him in his studio? Please share your inside information with us all? Just like Van Halen was never going to reunite with Roth right? LOL! Unlike you, and all the other Waborita fans, I like quality over substance. I don’t listen to Hagar’s solo music anymore because it bores me and he’s about as lame as it gets lyrically! I pretty much gave up on Sam’s lyrical writing ability though after hearing that turd Up For Breakfast! Christ I could eat a can of alphabet soup and crap out better lyrics than that song! Solo Hagar hasn’t been relevant in years! It’s nice that he pumps out so much solo material but who cares if the bulk of it is crap! Sammy hasn’t had a Platinum solo album since he was kicked out of Van Halen in 96′…that pretty much says it all. In fact his last solo Platinum album was VOA in 1984!

  115. Line6Guy says:

Talk about “burnt out and tired”…lyrically and musically ole Sambo indeed is walteR!

  116. Jor-L5150 says:

    i like what i hear , its not mind-blowing , but i like it.

i LOVE the haters saying things like :
” well you just wait till van halen comes back with anew record - it’ll blow this away “.

    i sure hope so !!!

  117. SCAR says:

Hey Lame6guy - I’d reply back but it’s the weekend and we just cracked open another bottle of tequila and were cranking some Sammy tunes and I don’t want to ruin a good buzz. Later sucker!!!!!!!!!!!

  118. SCAR says:

Thursday night and the gang’s all here… got Sammy rockin on the stereo…. to bad your weekend doesn’t start on Thursday nights eh Lameguy6? What was that? Fries up? Well I’ll have some of that…….

  119. phil says:

if anyone wants serious lyrics go visit the U2 site and go save the world!

  120. Juca says:

Chickenfoot might sound very good if you are drunk?

  121. Line6Guy says:

C’mon Joe you da man! I know you’ve got something better than this on the album for us to hear?

  122. McD's says:

    Line6Guy…
“I’d rather the group take their time and make a great new album…not just pump out crap year after year that’s not interesting”
    Are you serious?
Since ‘95 they’ve release 2 “Best Of” Cds + VHIII (which I wouldn’t classify under the “great album” category.
At this point I’d rather them pump out something!

  123. C'mon says:

McD’s. If you haven’t realized yet Douche6Guy is a miserable turd who just loves nothing more than to bash others who don’t agree with him. With him its either the “not so mighty Vh” or nothing. As far as CF is concerned I along with a lot of other people am enjoying it. I can tell you where I live they are getting radio play and a lot of it! The feedback is very positive, so lets enjoy the new band for 1 or 10 albums, however many they do I am truly into this band.

  124. Line6Guy says:

Did I hurt your lil feelings too C’mon? Maybe you & SCAR should get a room together and a large order of whammy burgers & french cries! Boo hoo!

McD’s, I hear what your saying and to have your fans wait for over 10 years without a new album release is a joke I agree but the Van Halen III album wasn’t as bad as most people made it out to be. It is definately my least favorite VH album but musically it had some really great ideas on it. Dirty Water Dog, Fire In The Hole, Without You and Year To The Day are great tracks! I think Van Halen III got slammed even harder because people were so bummed that the Roth/Halen reunion fell apart and they weren’t recording a new album together. Poor Gary didn’t stand a chance at all! At least, on that album, Gary wasn’t writing his lyrics in crayon like the Red Rocker!

  125. Jeff says:

I bet the CF boys are reading all this crap right now, and laughing their asses off…….all the way to the bank!! Like it or not, all, you guys whining about The Foot, are just creating more and more hype for the band that you guys hate so much!!! HYPE = FREE ADVERTISING = A BOAT LOAD OF NEW FANS = A FLEET OF BOATS FILLED WITH CASH!!!
I for one love the tunes and am excited as hell about the album and tour!!! It shows in the music that they don’t take themselves or life in general so seriously, and listening to it certainly gives me a nice break from the B.S. that I am sure we all have to put up with on a day to day basis!! THAT’S WHAT ROCK AND ROLL IS SUPPOSED TO DO!!

  126. WildWingDoug says:

This is what VH would sound like today if Sammy was still in the band, that I am sure of. Joes playing is held back here, but I think that is by choice, normally there would be no room for lyrics with Satch shredding all over the place. Joe better technical player, Eddie better rock player. Did anyone really expect the lyrics to be like U2, its Sammy Hagar for christ sakes, he partys and sings, thats why we love him, we all want his life. Same with Dave why would they change after all these years. Van Halen/ DLR/ Hagar always a party band period. If you want serious songs check out VH III. Thats what I thought, we all know it was technically a pretty good album, but it sucked as a Van Halen album. And remember if you disagree with me that means you are wrong.

  127. TongueFu says:

It’s not bad but…it’s not exactly blowing me away either. I need to hear more of the foot to decide.

  128. walteR says:

    Line6Guy,
I think I saw your Mom working at Hooters !!! You’re right, VH III wasn’t a bad album, people just weren’t open to the idea of Gary Cherone singing… The CF project will be great.. Maybe Sammy n Mike will even invite VH to a show….

  129. Line6Guy says:

    walteR,

Wow that was deep walteR! It wasn’t my mom…she passed away in a car crash years ago. I appreciate the attempt at humor though. VH III wasn’t a bad album at all…Eddie was very creative on that album and Gary sang his ass off too! The people weren’t ready at all for a third new singer.

  130. Jeff says:

This rocks! Can’t wait to hear more of it.

  131. Mole says:

Okay, I went through and listened to the three songs of Chickenhead via the VHND, and here are some thoughts (my opinions)

    1. Sounds like solo Hagar albums always do
    2. Does Mike actually play bass on the songs, or should we assume he does?
    3. Lyrical writing is not the strong suit of either Dave or Sammy. Party guys write about what they know (lol….I think Sam and Dave have that covered)
    4. I have seen Joe live, Sammy live, Van Halen live, Van Hagar live, etc., but I do not think this one will be worth aything more than say $50.00. Too tame

I am glad Sammy is still writing music, and I also glad that era of Van Halen is over. Hell, it could be over for good, but ah, the memrioes will be around forever

    Peace!
