A love song to Diamond Dave

Saturday, 11 April 2009

The Bird and The Bee’s singer, Inara George, not only has a beautiful voice, but also a great taste in rock ‘n’ roll front men. “Diamond Dave” is a love song she wrote to David Lee Roth, which is on the band’s new album, Ray Guns Are Not the Future.

Lyrics: “Diamond Dave”

When I was a child you captured my devotion
I spent so many hours exploring mixed emotions
All of the ways you spoke to me
All of the things you provoked in me
I’ll always love you

Chorus
Diamond Dave, no one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave, I’ll always remember
I still carry such a flame

When you left the band I couldn’t understand it
But I’ve forgiven you, now that you’ve re-committed
All of the time you spent away from me
All of the missed opportunity
I’ll always love you

Chorus
Diamond Dave, no one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave, I’ll always remember
I still carry such a flame

(Come on Dave, show me what you got
I can take it)

I’ll always love you

Chorus
Diamond Dave, no one can hold a candle
Nothing else is quite the same
Pretty Dave, I’ll always remember
I still carry such a flame

  1. Frank says:

I don’t know her, but this tribute would’ve been better if she used a EVH Frankenstrat ;-)

    Frank,NL

  2. HideYourSheep says:

The tribute is to Dave though, so instead of the Frankenstrat, she could’ve used Dave’s “Ice Cream Man” fudge pop acoustic from back in the day. :)

  3. Alex Han Valen says:

She should use the jack daniels bass ’cause shes playing bass.

  4. reservoirgoose says:

Great, something else to inflate Dave’s ego just a little bit more. *gag*

  5. Bocephus says:

    Well done.

    A nice treat.

  6. Mark Sachs says:

She has a soothing voice and she isn’t bad looking, but I’m not sure if she would be up to Dave’s standards, if you know what I mean! HAPPY EASTER everyone!

  7. bl says:

    wtf?

  8. SCAR says:

    Creepy!!!

  9. Pliskin says:

Why don’t we start calling this ths Inara George News Desk??? ;)

  10. pushtoshove says:

I think its pretty cool music…very traditional..sounds like a jazz standard….you guys are WAY too uptight…besides Dave got bashed and trashed the whole time he was out of VH….He deserves any tributes he can get.

  11. pushtoshove says:

Way to go Dave!!!! You Deserve it!!!! Diamond Dave!!!!!

  12. TAMMY FRUGE says:

thank god its not sumthin about chickenfoot

  13. nick h says:

Yes she should have used the “dave-sicle”

  14. TK says:

Incredible shredding on that bass. Billy Sheehan would be proud.

  15. avh35 says:

    Please remove this.

  16. SCAR says:

She looks like she could be DLR’s stalker - creepy!!!!!

  17. Mark says:

    That was weird.

  18. David says:

Someone said she should have used the Davecicle. I think that’s whats she’s hoping for.

  19. Big Al says:

I believe this will be the first single to get airplay from Chickenfoot’s new album!!!!

  20. Keith says:

I’m thinkin Dave would have no problem showin her who’s Daddy ! LOL

  21. Pedro Veldez says:

    Love it! Love her!

  22. Coyoteface says:

Well, it sure isn’t my kind of music, but I like the song anyway cause they actually do recognize DLR’s unique frontmanship. It hurts to write this, but after so many years, after so many lead singers who tried and failed to copy him, after so many compliments coming from people in the business, DLR is still underrated.

Maybe he should have died for the sake of mass recognition. It worked for Mr. Mercury. It worked for Mr. Cobain. It worked for Mr. Morrison.

Oh well, I rather see him alive and blow us away on the New VH album that will hopefully come out around the summer of 2011, right after it crossed Edward van Halen’s mind that telling people for 10 years now that he has enough material for 10 albums doesn’t quite cut it anymore.

  23. Rick Berdeski says:

this isnt about dave…c’mon people give me a break. She wasnt even BORN when dave left VH good god.

  24. chris omeara says:

If Dave doesn’t want her, I’ll take her…

  25. Rick Berdeski says:

alright…SO SHE WAS 10 when dave left VH my bad. I guess he provoked her @ 10. I was pushing Hot wheels @ 10 but whatever. LOL

  26. TOP GUNslinger5150 says:

Diamond Dave and Van Halen are ahead of their time!! Dave will always be Van Halen. He is the ring master, the toast master, the best damn frontman/showman we will ever see!! So much, that people are writing songs about him!!!!

  27. ou812 says:

    SAD SAD SAD

  28. dude says:

    shit sandwich

  29. thedude says:

    poopy sandwich

  30. tannrr says:

    ouch!!!
Very cool… but the song ssssucked!

  31. Jeff Kirk says:

Complete crap. To all those that are saying she’s good-looking………..really? Come on. Raise your standards just a bit.

    The song is crap.
    She ISN’T hot.
    Thank you, drive through.

  32. pushtoshove says:

Boy…you guys here on this site make it easy for people to label ‘Rock Music Listeners’ kind of un-sophisticated…I mean here’s a jazz-modern type of song written in relation to our favorite band and you shoot it down…some people are never happy.

  33. Eric says:

She should write one about Eddie. I could come up with some good lyrics to that one, but I don’t have the time. I’m looking forward to coming back here to see what you guys, who don’t have anything better to do, come up with!

  34. pushtoshove says:

And 3/4 of you couldn’t write something as good as this to save your life…guess there wasn’t enough high pitched vocals and whammy bar guitars….Fools.

  35. SCAR says:

I had nothing better to do except say, if jazz-modern music makes people sophisticated, I’m glad I am a no good, raunchy, hell raising, VH rockin SOB!!!!!! I pay tribute to DLR and the boys every time I crank up classic VH!!!!!!!

  36. D Alexander Toluca Lake Ca says:

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams.”

This singer is a dreamer, and a music maker.

For those of you who cant handle her style, thats why you’re in a cubicle pushing paper and this girl is singing her song.

To be an artist is to be unique. Not another in the crowd.
Many on here are just another in the crowd.

  37. scott says:

it’s not that some VH fans are unsophisticated… rather, they are just plain ignorant.

  38. Sir Terrence Tuppins says:

I’d like to think that Van Halen fans were an open minded bunch, but after reading the comments on these posts are a little disappointing.

The Birds And The Bee are a pretty awesome band/music project. Greg Kurstin has worked with Beck, The Flaming Lips, Kylie Minogue and the Red Hot Chili Peppers among others. Inara George recently made a record with Van Dyke Parks. Van Dyke Parks, for crying out loud!

(I only wish Edward and his brother would get out their basement and make an experimental classical instrumental album with Van Dyke Parks. Ed’s got the talent and it could be awesome. Think about it.)

They may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s quite a few diehard Van Halen fans who enjoy other styles of music that lack the hot licks and whammy bar whiddley-diddley.

(Motherfuck the guitar solos already. Am I the only who thinks Sir Edward Van Halen is one of the most criminally under rated rhythm guitarists of all time?)

And for the record, Inara George is the daughter of the late Lowell George; singer/guitarist/front man for Little Feat. Perhaps some of you are familiar with their music (especially since Van Halen circa Sammy Hagar-era covered “A Apolitical Blues).

  39. pushtoshove says:

I agree but just for the record…I am not trying to sound like an elitist,or a snob but geeezzz!!!! You guys ( the complainers ) make it out like she is gargling Bono while singing ( although that might sound like U2 ) C’mon boy’s , give Dave a break

  40. pushtoshove says:

Do you think Ed listens to old tapes of himself ( His 10 year archive ) and says-” There is no way i can play that anymore “……What a rude awakening

  41. pushtoshove says:

Hopefully he is not saying that….

  42. Pedro Veldez says:

This really is a pathetic forum.
It’s a fun song by a VERY talented DLR fan.
DLR would clearly love this and see the irony of the totally ‘unrock’ delivery. It’s coming from the same place as ‘just a gigalo’ - entertainment.

  43. Pedro Veldez says:

    oh,
and I’m sure most of you Van Halen ‘fans’
wouldn’t have girlfriends as stylish, tasteful, talented and intelligent as Inara George. Only in your dreams.

Go back to beating off too Ed’s solo’s and listening to Sammy’s humourless wailings

  44. Pedro Veldez says:

    oh,
and I’m pretty pathetic making 4 comments on this topic.
I might just leave now and get a life..

  45. Adam says:

Pedro, I hear you. There are lots of intelligent people on here, they just don’t post as often as some of the regulars, who can’t spell.

This band, The Bird and The Bee, is really something. Check out “Again & Again”, “My Fair Lady” & “La La La,” all from their self-titled album. Amazing, almost other-worldly music! I like their nod to Roth, but this song is nowhere near one of their best!

I’ve been really into them for two years now, and yes, classic VH is my all-time favorite.

  46. chris omeara says:

I knew I liked the keyboards but didn’t realize it was Greg Kurstin from the Action Figure Party CD; If you haven’t heard that one I highly recommend it; It’s not Van Halen keyboards (thank God), but it’s an awesome keyboard/theremin/electronica album…

Inara George is hot and I love her voice (and sense of humor); The dress is hideous, but she wouldn’t be wearing it anyway…

She has the same hair and facial look Angelina had WAY back in her early movie “Hackers.”

I realize this is not Van Halen news, but Eddie’s not giving us much to talk about these days…

  47. Rocko says:

What the heck is this Crap? I’d rather get a bunch of Hair metal chicks to do this not a corny wimp ass alternative band to do a tribute to any of Van Halen members

  48. Jor-L5150 says:

    SHE’S CUTE!!!

  49. Jor-L5150 says:

    oh- wait -

    ” ( ahem) ….THIS is a VAN HALEN site so why…..”

  50. pushtoshove says:

    Jor-l5150…That was some Highbrow humor …way to go…I mean..er..” ( ahem! )…Why is THIS article here…..”

  51. Brad says:

    That’s just fucked up.

    Sorry, but it is.

  52. Jeff Kirk says:

This is a Van Halen news site. Sorry, but I do not understand how you can listen to Van Halen and find the above video entertaining. It’s complete garbage. So she mentions David Lee Roth. So what? I love Dave, but I’m not going to write a crappy, bubbly song about him.

If you’re going to write a song about a member of Van Halen, RIP IT UP!!!!!! None of this artsy-fartsy garbage. Go nuclear!

  53. Mika says:

Most of you are idiots here. The artist Inara is doing a fantastic job for a great frontman we all know. I love the song - I actually think so does Dave. It’s got deep feelings and memories from decades ago in it.
