  1. Big Al says:

What a SHAME!! 5 grown men can’t find common ground to FLAT OUT KICK ASS!!!! Enough BLAME to go around for ALL parties involved!!! But what the Hell, everyone is in the situation they want to be in. Sam and Mike are happy not to be in Van Halen. Dave and Wolfie are Happy to be in Van Halen.

  2. JOHN GARRETT says:

GREAT INSIGHT– CANT WAIT TILL THE NEXT INSTALLMENT– IF YOU REALLY WANNA BE NICE — YOU CAN SEND IT TO ME–

    JOHNGARRETT@KNOLOGY.NET..:)

    THANKS FOR THE GREAT INTERVIEW!!!

EDDIE IS INSANE ——- I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT ONE TO HEAR SOME NEW MUSIC– AND I AM LOOKING WAAAAAY FORWARD TO CHICKENFOOT….;)

  3. Mitch says:

Really hard to listen to this stuff. Mikey…stay out of VH man. If it will allow you to be happy playing music, than forget about the brothers.

As great as a full CVH lineup tour would be for me to see; somebody who wasn’t even born when Dave left in 1985…if playing with Sam and doing what you’re doing now makes you really happy.

    Than continue doing it man!

    Cheers,

    Mitch

  4. Garrett says:

Good stuff…thanks to the VH Newsdesk for setting up this interview and a BIG thanks to Mikey for playing along. LONG LIVE VAN HALEN! ;p

  5. STEW says:

I love how they always blame Dave . To me there would be no Van Halen with out Dave ! Show him the respect he deserves ! Classic Van Halen Is the Greatest band on Earth ! Mickey owes his life to Diamond Dave ! Van halen is not Van Halen without Dave ! Simple….

  6. JOHN GARRETT says:

hey mike — if you really do read these blogs– just wanted to say ” whats up!”

    thanks for all the tunes–

  7. mike says:

sounds as though mike is being a high school tattle tale bout bashing on dave,ELEMENTARY, the bit bout dave slugging the jack before the mtv awards,ELEMENTARY, i don’t buy it, wake up people this is high school drama bs, coming from the same person that said he didn’t want drama in his life. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!! come on, as dave would say, time to tell the truth

  8. ace5150 says:

Hey Mikey! Thanks for the interview.

I am glad you are happy and look forward to your future endeavors.

  9. Bryan Williams says:

Van Halen is the greatest! That is just how bands (big or small) go…egos and drama..no one to blame just how the band game works…band members are like brothers and worst than having a bad wife sometimes!LOL But for those few years that everyone makes wonderful music and memories together helps make it all worth while! My fellow band members in LSD-30 from Muscle Shoals have always had a love/hate drama like Van Halen! We have reunions and get everyone in Muscle Shoals excited then break up again! But we have made great music and gave our fans lots of good times over the years like Van Halen. And when my dad past away from cancer……that next day everyone of the guys came to be by my side…no drama…no egos…just brothers! Van Halen are brothers …..the music that they have made over the years is the blood that connects them! God bless Dave, Mike, Ed, Alex, Sammy, and yes Gary too! Thanks for the great music! Thanks Mike for sharing with the Van Halen Fans!

  10. DYSLEXIC FUDGICLE says:

Mike Anthony rules. One of my favorite bass players ever. It’s too bad he caught a raw deal from VH time and time again, but hopefully he will have continued success. He’s been a good sport about the whole thing.

  11. Simonhead says:

Thanks for sharing these news parts!
    Kudos!

  12. theREALchris says:

If Mikey owes anybody anything, it’s the Brothers VH. He doesn’t owe Dave shit. He doesn’t owe them anything either, but if he owed anyone, it’s those 2. They said they wanted him to play bass back in the day period. Why doesn’t he owe them? He paid his dues playing in the band for oh, I don’t know, 20 something years (give or take). Come on guys. He’s answering questions. OUR questions. You don’t like his answers about Dave, then don’t friggin ask!!! He’s right by the way. Why no interviews with Dave? That doesn’t seem very Dave like as Mikey said. I don’t know why everyone has this strange sense that Dave is untouchable, and what is said about him is BS. I got news for you; if x number of people say the same thing, it’s probably close to the truth. Oh, and Mike, thanks for taking the time, man. Once again, doing something for the fans. Opinions aside, we ALL appreciate the Love.

  13. 777 says:

MA is full of it. There’s no way that he’ll ever play in VH again. He’s badmouthed DLR all along, and now people are crying that he’s not in the band with Dave? He’s out of the band, get over it.

  14. tman says:

Its alway’s good to hear Mike talk about the band. But he still has not really gone into detail? He may be still holding back. Other than what he said about Dave and his manager. Its not new info? No detail on the 2000 work they did other than it did not work out? Old issue’s came up? Do you think he may tell really why he is not in the band?

We will see? Looking forward to the 4&5 post.

Good luck to Mike and the Chickenfoot project.

  15. Rocky says:

I can’t wait for the next two videos.

I remember going to the Hall of Fame in Cleveland during the induction ceremony and the only Van Halen-esque thing there was Michael’s Jack Daniels bass.

  16. Snowedoutin1984 says:

Enjoying the interviews so far. I was 13 in 1984 and had tickets to see VH at the Hartford Civic Center. Unfortunately, about 20 inches of snow fell that day, VH played and I was not allowed to go. Saw VH with Sammy tons of times, I’m even in the Live Without a Net video. But I always missed hearing the rip-roaringest music I grew up with, so I jumped at the opportunity to see the band in 2007 (Feb 14th in Orlando). Absolutely enjoyed the show but missed Mikey. I live my classic VH days through bootlegged videos. What is so sad though is: I teach here in Florida and watch so many kids walk around with AC DC shirts and Zep shirts, but none walk around with VH shirts. These poor kids have missed out on the greatest music ever recorded because of the BS that has always surrounded VH. I know Mikey (hope you’re reading this and feel free to blog as well) that you think VH stepped it up a notch with Sammy, but I have watched the classic VH bootlegs and have seen the Hagar tours numerous times….no comparison in attitude, fun or energy. DLR days were way better in studio recordings and definitely live. Please VH give us new music with the original 4…please. I, like so many fans, have supported this band by buying the records, then cassettes, then CDs, then the re-mastered CDs…..c’mon VH, give us a break…we deserve it. Bottoms Up!!!!!!!!

  17. JOHN GARRETT says:

    I SECOND THAT–

I WISH ED WASNT SUCH A DOUBHE– AND JUST FREAKING DO SOMETHING!!!

BY THE WAY– WHY CANT WE LIKE SAMMY AND DAVE..? WHY DO WE HAVE TO CHOOSE–?

THAT IS SO RIDICULOUS– I EVEN LIKE VH3– IF YOU ARE A TRUE FAN YOU LIKE BOTH–

    I LIKE LENNON AND MCCARTNEY

I LIKE TOM JOHNSTON AND MICHAEL MCDONALD

I LIKE ROGER DALTREY AND PETE TOWNSEND

BUT WE HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN SAMMY AND DAVE??

I REFUSE!! I LOVE THEM BOTH– AND GARY SOME TOO

  18. Jero says:

Without Dave it’s not Van Halen. Without Mike it’s Van Halen with another bass player.

  19. Erick says:

I predict that in the future - maybe 5-10 years from now - there will be a 100% CVH-reunion.

For some people it just takes time to grow up and learn to communicate. But it can happen. And Eddie may be a milder person when he gets older.

The 2007/2008 tour was excellent. The music was great and DLR is the best showman there is. Wolfgang was good too.
I saw them in Calgary and Vancouver. It was a 9.9 out of 10.

Can’t wait for the 10 out of 10. Dave, Ed, Alex, and Mike are the real Van Halen; the greatest band in the world!

Thanks Mike and VHND for the interview!

  20. ClubfootKolby says:

    BRING BACK SAMMY AND MIKE

  21. Jason says:

Just got Sammy Hagars new Album. It kicks ASS !! Sammy needs to bring his live shows to a larger audience….. If Van Halen does anything in 2009, they have a long road ahead……

I did see the Van Halen w/ Sammy reunion - two times and the Van Halen Reunion w/ Dave - two times. No complaints !!

  22. willie says:

Hey Listen up all, Ed’s pissed off , cause Sam and Mike are making money on his songs, and not working hard on new music for VH.Sam’s to busy trying to keep others working with his old music and making new. Does Ed make any money on anything Sam wrote or Mike? Sam+Mike made money on the last 12 years on music Ed wrote. Ed only got sum money on Sam’s tunes on a weak 98 tour with Gary. So thats why when mike came back in 98 he was paid as a hire hand , and was not in the 2007-2008 tour. U could cut Sammy’s career in half without Van Halen. U can’t say that about ED!!!!!!!!!

  23. Josh Peters says:

What’s with all the Mike hating? Mike’s the man. He’s telling his side because he’s being asked about it. In his life he doesn’t want the BS and the drama. But, that’s apparently how Ed and Al work. Overall, it’s too bad. I just want to take my kid to see VH one day and I want Mike there. I want to go buy a new album. I want to hear something new on the radio. I want to buy VH shirts in a store. It’s SAD that this stuff can’t be a reality.
Mike should bring that dumb Rock Star show back and look for a band. Not just the singer.
Thanks for talking with us, Mike.
I miss the hell out of you, man.

  24. kmross says:

Thanks to Mike & VHND for these interviews. Truely enlightning. On one part I heard that Mike said he heard Al say “… would Led Zepplin do that ?” . I think that’s the secret truth. The VH’s think they’re on par with Zepplin, Beatles, etc. !!! Sorry guys, now way, that’s A league, top of the heap. Get over your egos, but then, I guess we all built them up to be that way.

  25. willie says:

Sam should of never ever did any side projects while an active member of Van halen, there the best thing that ever happened to his career , and Dave’s and Gary too !!!!! And Wolfie and Mike and sooo on. Its Ed’s Playing and song writing that makes this all work. And what broke then up in 1985???? Dave’s side work!!!!! No side work is better then being in VH. Ed rules and he is pissed!!!!!!!!!!!! Respect Your Maker it is EDWARD LODEWIJK VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!

  26. willie says:

P.S that includes Alex too , but he is smart enough to never ever touch an outside project. But if u can take a long look back , It was Ed’s Beat it Solo, that started this whole side stuff going.

  27. redarrow5150 says:

    Hey Willie,

The only outside stuff Sammy did was a solo album which he was CONTRACTLY OBLIGATED to do before joining Van Halen. If YOU recall Eddie played bass and helped produce the album. Sammy never did any outside projects after that until he was fired.

  28. Anthony says:

Who gives a damn about whether Sammy or Dave is any better than the other! I liked them both! It was Van Halen and that was all that mattered. Over all these years of being a die hard fan waiting for something, anything new. Waiting. Frustrated. Two greatest hits CD’s and a few new songs. What the hell. Just about to give the hell up! Ed, Alex just tell us this is the end of it and let’s move on, because all the music you have in the can is no good if we never get to hear it! I love you guys and all the times I was chomping at the bit for the latest VH CD, but c’mon! Mike, you keep kicking ass, because your story is the one I’ve always wanted to hear after all this crap started in ‘85. Sammy you keep kickin’ ass also! For all the haters it sure isn’t like you came after the damn job and got Dave’s ass kicked out the band. Look forward to Chickenfoot and your new CD kicks ass. As far as a new VH cd, I won’t hold my damn breath.

  29. jab3 says:

in response to willie, ed has done several things on the side (nicollete larson, brian may’s star fleet project, thomas dolby, steve lukather, etc)

  30. Josh Peters says:

Ed’s done plenty on the side, but in his mind it most likely doesn’t count. I remember Sam doing side stuff and thinking he was nuts. It’s like playing with fire.
And they most certainly are on par with Led Zep. Unlike Zep, they write their own shit rather than steal it directly from blues legends. That’s another conversation, though. VH is my favorite band for a reason: they’re the best. the heap begins at the soles of their shoes.
    ‘Nuff said.

  31. STEW says:

Hey I like Mike . But know one gives Dave the respect for classic Van Halen . It was eddies music & Dave’s style that made Van Halen magical !!!! Oh by the way Sammy sucks!!! No I’m kidding he’s ok! email me at apspainting@gmail.com if you want to chat about VH.

  32. Chris says:

Stew!! Your the man and your right on the money!!! Without Dave Van Halen is not “Mighty” period!!! Dave understood what was required at the time when he joined Van Halen, he turned Van Halen into the “MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!!” (it was Dave who suggested using Alex & Eddie’s last name for the band remember!!) Dave was/is the voice of VH, the toast master, MC call him what you want…the greatest ever frontman to walk this earth!!! Oh yeah Sammy tried, but he’s middle of the road…”in one ear out the other”

  33. willie says:

To Jab3 , Yes, Ed has done side things for friends who asked him too, but never tour with the work he did and probably didn’t made any money on it. It was and always be Van Halen first for Ed , not for Sam, As soon as VH took a break he was off working on his solo stuff , while growing bigger and bigger on his VH fame … Listen Ed has his issues, but all genius do too. Sam hasn’t done anything close to VH stuff and Dave too + Gary. So deal with it. And what Ed did on the side had nothing to do with taking money out of the pocket of Sam or Dave work.

  34. Scott says:

Mike, as always takes the high road. I have posted it many times before. Mike is a class act.

I’d like to see the brothers put forth and publish some NEW music. I am tired of all the VH B.S. Lets hear something new.

    Signed,
One of the few people in the world that though VH III is good.

  35. Father Finian says:

One thing about Mikey, his much varied opinions on singers are always good for a few chuckles.

When Cherone was in VH, Mike was happy to agree with the Brothers and declare both Dave AND Sammy to be pains in the ass….

  36. murph says:

great interview! Hope the VH boys grow up thanks Mike and Jeff!!!!

  37. tbop says:

ehhh Josh Peters, you might want to rephrase that to “the heap ends at the soles of their feet”….
