“Cosmic Universal Fashion” - the new video from Sammy & Michael
Thursday, 28 August 2008
There’s a new video for Sammy’s new song “Cosmic Universal Fashion.” It’s pretty much an updated version of Van Halen’s “Right Now” video, and it features Sammy Hagar & Michael Anthony. Very cool!
This song is from Hagar’s upcoming CD of the same name, due for release in October.

Not the greatest song, but better than most of the stuff on his last album.
Should this site maybe change its name to the Sammy Hagar News Desk? You could still post Van Halen news, since it’s loosely related, but there sure seems to be more about Sammy than about VH lately.

i THINK THIS IS A PRETTY COOL SONG…. And Sammy hit it on the head about Mikey Thinking about a solo project….Thinking about it,,,,,I like sammy , he is Producing music ……He is making it happen….Hey , Eddie’s got a life , Right? Or is he just over?….I dont care anymore , but i will go see Sammy when he comes around….

Eddie and Alex PROCRASTI-HALEN……The great procrastinators

Nat,
The VHND can’t help it if there is way more Sammy Hagar news than VH news. Would you rather it never covered Sammy news? It would be updated a lot less often, and it would appeal to less VH fans.
The VHND has always done covered both Dave & Sammy, no matter which singer was currently in Van Halen. When Sammy was in Van Halen, it also covered David Lee Roth’s solo career. And when Gary Cherone was their singer, it covered both Sammy & Dave.
I’m dying for some NEW VH news too, but it’s really nice to see Sammy & Mike in this new video!
August 28th, 2008 at 9:32 am
The song was better than most of the last album.
Still isn’t very good.
VH does have to get off their asses and get in the studio or something.
A simple explination of whats next would be nice.
August 28th, 2008 at 10:01 am
I loved the video.. it’s very RIGHT NOW i all senses!
In other way…
The song could be WAY better if it was simple rock roll.
It have such a good melody, but the industrial samples quite ruin it. Sample aren’t “right now”. Trent Reznor done it about 15 years ago…
Damn Sammy, i like you….. just rock it!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Hey Nat..
What we could do if Eddie don’t tell us nothing??
And im dead SURE that Sammy waited the VH tour to be over for releasing the album and advertising it.
Otherwise it wouldn’t be great news at all…
August 28th, 2008 at 11:10 am
Guys-
News comes in and the VHND posts it. Obviously, Sammy is releasing a new album, thus the recent attention. Van Halen is no longer on tour and most likely not in a studio. If there’s nothing to report on the band, then it’s nice to hear about Sam and Mike and even Gary when there’s something to be said. As far as I’m concerned, Sammy will always be a part of VH and Mike, in my book, IS VH in a lot of ways.
If they didn’t post about everything related to VH, there’d be nothing to post.
As a rabid VH fan, I thank those of you that run this site for ALL your information posted! Keep up the good work!
Oh, and for a solo Sammy tune, pretty sweet. I liked the Right Now sequel, too.
August 28th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
It’s not bad. Doesn’t rock as much I’d like it to, and it’s missing a sweet solo…(insert “without Eddie” comments here). I like the Mikey still looking to do a solo album! I hope they remix this tune with some more guitar and some more rock! As it stands now, I can’t wait for the live version of it!
August 28th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
The day Mikey comes out with a SOLO project is the day I will QUIT BASHING him.(not that he cares because I’m a nobody and have no effect on his life) But I would be the FIRST in line to BUY IT!! I don’t mean a Sammy album that he plays on, but a REAL SOLO PROJECT!!(I’ve been waiting 18yrs now)
Hey did anyone notice the info-mercial about TEQUILA at the end????????
I LOVE BEING RIGHT!!!!!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
I love the video but the song sucks…what the hell? Sammy hasn’t had a “great” album since VOA…I’d like to see more of that sort of stuff from Sammy…Standing Hampton style maybe…this new stuff is just not very good music…and I’m a Sammy fan, don’t get me wrong…I’ll still BUY the CD…but, aside from 1 or 2 good songs, the rest is just bleh…I guess the Yogi is still too high
Watching this video all I could think was “I wish the song was as good as the video”…sad.
Right Now…I hope Ed’s writing some new music
August 28th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
AWESOME ,AWESOME F CKIN AWESOME MO FOO S
August 28th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
THATS BECAUSE SAMMY ROCKS VH OUTTA THE BUILDING !!!!!!!!!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
cool vid, have to say the song is alittle blah…wheres the rippin guitars, the backup vocals a la anthony! i dunno maybe too much tequila and hotsauce equal boring music. come on van halen alumni give us a break! we want new music from eddie and dave!!!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
i wish Sammy and Mike would make it on thier own steam. this video is lamer re-hash of a VAN-HALEN video. If Sammy doesnt need VH, then why does he continue to rip off VH property? i know its just a video, and i know he co-wrote ‘Right Now’ but dont you guys think its a little classless?
and yeah Eddie and Alex are just sitting on thier asses, but atleast they arent out there bad mouthing Sammy, or trying to cash in on his properties!
August 28th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Right Now is as much Mike and Sam’s property as it is Al and Ed’s. How do you know they didn’t get approval to do it? I’m sure Sam has plenty of lawyers working out details like that to keep things amicable between the new and the old gang.
…and how do you rip off property you helped create?
…and how do you know that VH even had a hand in creating the Right Now video? For all you know, it was some intern at some director’s studio.
August 28th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Right now, a couple of guys are out of fresh ideas.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Right now I’m going to play Roth era VAN HALEN, it might not be new music but it still kicks ass.
August 28th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
WTF? Get some original material. What a rip off. Right Now I wish I hadn’t watched that.
August 28th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
Right Now Eddie and Alex have lots of money because we went to see them begrudgingly play covers of their own music to the tune of 150 a head on average……talk about easy street….Guess we know where we stand as loyal fans…Its all the same garage band bullshit…giant egos , irreconcilable differences ( indian for-heads up own asses ) and just flat out laziness…they won the lottery when they succeeded -and dont give me that bullshit about extreme talent-it was chemistry ( roth and van halen ),timing-1977 , and pure dumbfuck luck….If we see a new song from them with Dave, Brt=iteney spears will fart common sense and paris hooker will grow a brain…Thank you
August 28th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Great Video. Relevant to Today!!! Not Fresh Are you Crazy? I suppose old music from 1977 to 1984 is fresh. I suppose not having the courage to add one new song to the concert tour from the “tons of material in the case” is a fresh new idea. Give me a break! Give credit where credit is due and stop the hating! I can’t wait to hear the rest. Thanks Sam
P.S I also would love to hear some new material from Dave and the boys. So Bring It!!!!
August 28th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
While we wait for new VH lets be grateful that the Thunder From Down Under are giving us a new album and Tour this Fall.
Yeah thats right, I’m talkn bout AC/DC bitches!!!
Cool vid Sam.
August 28th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I heard the new ACDC song today for the first time driving down the interstate…local radio station played it…they didn’t say anything about it, just played it…and I knew what it was after the opening riff…say what you want about ACDC but you get what you pay for from those guys…the new song could easily be on Fly on the Wall or the Maximum Overdrive albums…back in Black may be a bit of a reach, but it’s close to sounding like that stuff.
I’d love to see Sammy and Mike come out with some classic sounding music!
August 29th, 2008 at 4:51 am
don’t know about you guy’s but i like it the guitar solo fills through the whole song, its straight ahead rock and roll. if you can do better lets hear it!! your talk is cheap if you can’t back it up. As far as I’m concerned if it has anything to do with members of VH past or present it belongs here. If you don’t like it complain to the VH website. This is the Van halen News desk not the official site so what we post here is news that has to do with anything VH related. Sammy and Gary and Mike are the only ones putting out newsworthy items right now trust me if Vh were to put out any info you would hear it from their website first and not from us. We are just trying to keep you informed of the big picture. If you want VH news go to their website.
August 29th, 2008 at 5:02 am
I’ll always have love for Sammy whether he’s in VH or not. Having said that, poor Mike sort of looks lost in the video. I would’ve like to see them play their instruments or at least have Mike playing bass or the washboard or whatever. This almost makes it look like Mike and Sammy are a 2 man studio band now. hehe
Seriously, I wish all the luck to both of them. Sammy’s a class act.
August 29th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Sammy is a class act, although he talked a lot of shit on stage about the biggest BAND he was, and ever will be in. The one thing I have to nod to Roth and the boys, they didn’t talk any shit about Sammy on stage during 07 and 08. They pretty much just jammed…They owed it to the old school die hard fans. If they dont make an album, OH WELL. I really hope they release old school vault treasures. I’m sure Wolfie will talk his old man into this. Hopefully the record companies and lawyers let this happen.
August 29th, 2008 at 9:54 am
Pretty cool song and interesting to see an “update” to world events. Looks like Sammy is taking shots of the Global Warming Kool-Aid, but otherwise pretty fair and balanced. The violence and kids part…right on the money.
August 29th, 2008 at 11:26 am
“The one thing I have to nod to Roth and the boys, they didn’t talk any shit about Sammy on stage during 07 and 08. They pretty much just jammed…They owed it to the old school die hard fans”
It’s clear that the 07-08 tour was heavily rehearsed and scripted. EVERY review (at least that I read) said almost the same thing. The set list never changed, and there were minimal changes to make the show “personal” to the city. I know they made a point to put a Red Sox World Champs sticker (that I’m sure came right off after the gig!) on Wolf’s bass and they showed that on the big screen in Worcester. But Dave said the same things to each city, told the same Ice Cream Man Story, and they played THE SAME SHOW over and over again. I’m all for reahearsing the hell out of the music, but not with the scripting. I still liked the show, but as I read reviews from other cities, I felt like I hadn’t really been to anything too special because everyone got the same treatment. What’s my point? Having the script to stick to didn’t give any room for shit talking. And that’s just the way Eddie must have wanted it. Sammy definitely takes his pot shots at Eddie during live shows. He does it for the crowd. They “oooohhh” and “ahhhhhhhh” and that’s about it. Not that the crowd wants to hear him rag on Ed, they just react to it!
August 29th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
This song is very forgettable and not very good. Sammy can do better than that! I am a fan of the original line-up - but I am being objective and am not a Sammy basher - it is just not that good.
David
August 30th, 2008 at 6:14 am
dave fan of the original line up says it all you could not be fair if you tried the song and video jams gie credit where credit is due
August 30th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Dave. Wise. Magic.
August 30th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Uhhh….what was your point chris?
August 31st, 2008 at 8:50 am
I don’t know….something about how the 07-08 tour had no shit talking about Sammy on stage. I went the long roundabout way of saying the show was on a tight and rigidly followed script. Is all. No shit in the script, meant no shit on the stage.
August 31st, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Why are they even still on a VH website, there not a part of VH anymore, These two are hanging on to the past
August 31st, 2008 at 10:47 pm
I didn’t hear enough Plause for The Mighty Young Brothers.
Yes they are still alive and they are not gonna ask questions.
September 1st, 2008 at 10:59 am
I love Sammy to death, but this song really sucks balls.
September 1st, 2008 at 11:35 am
This song reminds me of SLANG of Def Leppard, to Rap for my taste.
It’s amazing how Sam can’t get of the VH world, doing a new version of Right Now sucks big time.
Dont Like the song or the video
September 2nd, 2008 at 9:46 am
Silence is better than this. Quality versus quantity. Sammy just churns out the garbage. And could you find a way to mix his voice that brought out any more of its irriating qualities than this song? It really does sound like a donkyey braying.
Half way through, I was thinking “its so great he’s not in Van Halen anymore.”
September 5th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Yeah, keep waiting for a DLR with VH album. You fools dont know a good thing. Al, Mikey does have a solo project called the Mad Anthony Express. Check out Mad Anthony Cafe for info. All you Sammy haters can read my 2 comments under the cabo wabo blog a few articles down. Im so tired of the nay sayers I cant type it again here. In case you forgot, The DLR VH hasnt put out any new music since the 2 mediocre songs on VH GH vol. 1. and the best music VH put out in a decade was the 3 tracks with sammy on best of both worlds. If any of you saw mikey and sammy jammin on stage doing Amsterdam or Good Enough you would think twice. But keep waitin, maybe Roth Halen will put out an album in 2020 or so.
September 10th, 2008 at 7:08 am
Deja- I’m in your court til you say something like “the best music VH put out in a decade was the 3 tracks with sammy on best of both worlds.” No it wasn’t. It was the ONLY music put out by VH. I’m a Sammy freak til the end, but Up for Breakfast was bad, man. It sucked. It’s About Time was good, and Learning to See was really good. Roth Halen (nice) is supposed to be putting something out. Sammy is putting out stuff this year into next, so it may just be the Best of Both Worlds.
September 15th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Is this new song THAT similar to RIGHT NOW? The video certainly is, but the song is not remotely similar.
I think it’s some good stuff personally. I went into listening it thinking I was going to hear RIGHT NOW, but with some changes. Heck, if you don’t even watch the video, RIGHT NOW doesn’t even come to mind.
And what is it with these Digs that Sammy and Mike are “still” riding the shirt tails of Van Halen? Um, from Sam’s last album, what was even remotely similar to the VH years?
And is there a running list of Songs Sam’s done from Marching to Mars forward that is supposedly “just like Van Halen”? Sammy’s songs sound like….Sammy’s songs.
I dunno folks. The Front man of a Band to me has the most distinctive sound of what a Band sounds like. When Sammy joined VH, I always had a “That sounds like a Sammy Tune” moreso that “That sounds like a Van Halen Tune”.
Whihc I did not think was a BAD thing. For Sammy coming into VH and trying to sound like Roth or imitate Roth, would NEVER have worked. He and They (VH) needed to create their OWN sound. And I think they did it VERY successfully.
But Hagar sung Songs are GOING to sound Like “Hagar tunes” regardless if he’s in Montrose, solo, HSAS or with Van Halen.
Again, that is not a bad thing.
Looking forward to Sammy’s new Album.
Hawk

I prefer anything Sammy does over anything the “new” Van Halen does with Dave. To me, it’s just a cover band without Micheal Anthony in the band. Wolfie has the chops & can hit the notes, but he has no enthusiasm. At least Sammy is out there releasing new music. The guy is true to his fans.
