New Year’s Eve with Van Halen Live at Whisky A-Go-Go!

On this night in 1977, Van Halen performed at the famous Whisky A-Go-Go in Hollywood. Review photos and listen to audio from the concert below.

Listen to both Van Halen sets, featuring several unreleased originals!

Some quotes from people who were lucky enough to see Van Halen at the Whisky:

“I was there! The midnight show! One of the single best nights of my life! Thanks to whoever had the wherewithal to record this! It was fantastic! A night I’ll never forget! I was young, (18), and had my whole life in front of me and Van Halen was a constant in my life. Damn, I’m blessed. RIP Eddie! You and this awesome band will always have my whole heart!”

“Backstage one night at the Whisky, I peeled the Budweiser label off the long neck Ed gave me and asked for an autograph, he said what do you want me to write, I thought about for a second and said how about, “GET WASTED” so it says ” Get wasted/Edward Van Halen” still have it 44 years later. Great days..back up band was the Mumps!”

“It was a Friday night on a hot summer night in Santa Monica, California. My buddy was learning photography, we were going to be seniors at Culver City high school. He somehow had met Eddie on the strip at one of the clubs, and told him he was a photographer. We ended up at Santa Monica HS that night, VH was playing in the gym, we helped them unload and set up. Went out in the parking lot and smoked a couple of doobies. They blew the gym apart that night! Never met them again. Saw them at the Whiskey at least once. There were sooo many unreal bands back then… BUT I NEVER SAW A GUY PLAY LIKE THAT! R.I.P. Eddie and thank you!”
