Producer John Shanks Details the Making of the Final Van Halen Studio Album

by VHND — updated April 8, 2025 Leave a Comment

Super Producer John Shanks (Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers) sat down with Jeff Goebel on the ‘Van Halen Stories’ Podcast to discuss the making of Van Halen’s final record, A Different Kind Of Truth.

Shanks walks through the sessions and reveals his mornings with Van Halen, and late evenings with David Lee Roth. For 6 months, John worked side-by-side with Edward, Alex, Wolf and Dave as they crafted the final Van Halen album. Incredible insights about digging through early demos with Edward, to working with David Lee Roth as he crafted another amazing lyrical masterpiece of an album.

Check out the remarkable story of the love between two brothers and a son/nephew. Also, be in the room as the magic of composing lyrics happens with the incredible David Lee Roth!

Below is the complete interview on Final Resonance TV:
