Pasadena Residents Want New City Park To Be Named After Eddie Van Halen

The city of Pasadena recently asked residents to name a new city park and Eddie Van Halen ranked high on the list of suggestions.

Eddie, author Octavia Butler and the Playhouse Village garnered the most submissions in a survey conducted by the city as they seek to find a name for a park to be located on Union Street. Close to 50 names were proposed among the 725 submissions, according to an article by Andre Coleman of Pasadena Now.

According to city policy, the park can be named after the geographical location of the park or facility where it is located, geological features proximate to the park or facility, cultural or historical significance to the city or surrounding neighborhood or an individual who has made a significant contribution to the community, country, state or the field of parks and recreation.

The commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday (December 14) at 6 p.m. (PST).

Eddie, his brother Alex, and their parents moved to Pasadena in the 1960s. He attended Hamilton Elementary School, graduated from Pasadena High School, and attended Pasadena College before eventually joining forces with Alex, David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony to form Van Halen.
