Watch the ‘Lost Weekend’ Van Halen Documentary!

by VHND — updated February 27, 2020 Leave a Comment

NOW STREAMING, for free: ‘Lost Weekend’, a documentary from filmmakers Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb:

In 1984, two friends from small-town Pennsylvania win an MTV contest and the chance to party with Van Halen for 48 Hours.

And 36 years later, a short (14 minute) documentary about that legendary “lost weekend” has been released for free streaming!

Watch the 15-minute documentary below:

Director’s Statement: “Lost Weekend was born out of many late nights watching classic MTV music videos, awards shows, and MTV bumpers. Amongst the madness appeared the commercial for MTV’s Lost Weekend Contest… Before we knew it, the simple suggestion that “we should do a doc about the guy who won that contest!” turned into a week in Pennsylvania, the surprising discovery of untouched raw archive footage, a newfound appreciation for Van Halen’s music, and the short film that is Lost Weekend.”

About the Filmmakers: Bradford Thomason and Brett Whitcomb are a filmmaking team with a catalog that oscillates between archive-rich nostalgic portraits of pop culture, compelling stories of female empowerment, and observational snapshots of under-explored cultures. Their acclaimed film “GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling” premiered at Hot Docs in 2012, and The Village Voice called it “a beautiful and touching documentary.” The film helped inspire the hit Netflix series “GLOW”. “A Life in Waves”, which explores the life and career of electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, premiered at SXSW in 2017 and was distributed by Hulu. Bradford and Brett recently co-directed the feature-length documentary “Jasper Mall,” which had its world premiere at the 2020 Slamdance Film Festival.
