Van Halen Tops Guitar World’s List of Best Albums of the Eighties

by VHND — updated August 6, 2014 Leave a Comment

In early 1990, the editors of Guitar World magazine sat back, grabbed some coffee and painstakingly selected what they considered the top 50 guitar albums of the just-ended Eighties.

Van Halen’s magnificent 1984 topped their list as the #1 album of the Eighties! And not only that—Van Halen was the only band that three albums that made their list. Women And Children First and Fair Warning made it as well, at numbers 48 and 37, respectfully. And that’s not all, a David Lee Roth solo album not only made their list, but scored very high—they named Eat ‘Em And Smile was named the seventh best album of the Eighties!

In their photo gallery here, you can see the 50 albums they came up with. The albums are listed in order, from “killer” to “jaw-droppingly awesome.” Or from 50 to 1, depending on your perspective.

Don’t agree with the vintage editors’ vintage choices? As always, let your voice be heard! Share your opinion in the comments below!

And naturally, Guitar World’s editors still love Van Halen—they named A Different Kind Of Truth the #1 album of 2012!
