Michael Anthony on Wolfgang Van Halen: “He’s a Great Bass Player”

For Bass Players Only’s Jon Liebman caught up with Michael Anthony before a recent concert with Sammy Hagar in Michigan and conducted a video interview with the legendary bass player. Naturally, the subjects ranged from Michael touring a bit with Sammy Hagar this year, Chickenfoot’s current hiatus (they’re planning to write new songs early this year), Michael’s new Peavey VB-MA Signature Amp, and his line of award-winning “Mad Anthony” hot sauces.

When asked about his thoughts or feelings about Wolfgang Van Halen replacing him as the bass player in Van Halen, Michael replied:

“I think he’s a great kid. I mean, obviously, I’ve known him since he was born. He’s a great musician. He’s a great bass player. He plays drums, guitar, bass and sings. His dad, Ed, wanted his son to play with him, so you know, that’s, you know, totally great. I mean, I found out that he was going to be playing bass [in Van Halen]  with everybody else…when they did their press conference. I wished him luck in a couple interviews I did, and hopefully he read those.”

  • strumminwiththedevil06 strumminwiththedevil06 I really think it’s great that you enjoy that version of the album. From a business standpoint it didn’t make any sense at all.
