The Guardian’s “Music Weekley” podcast praises Van Halen

UPDATE: Links have been fixed.

From Guardian.co.uk

In this recent podcast, the Guardian’s film & music editor, Michael Hann, tells about his passion for Van Halen, whom he describes as “the most important and influential white rock band apart from the Beatles.” This guy really gets how Van Halen totally reinvented hard rock and how David Lee Roth helped make them much more interesting than the other rock bands at the time.

The Van Halen talk starts at 1:12 for just a minute, and then the main VH segment begins at 36:07 and runs about 10 minutes.

I’m English, not British. ‘British’ and The guardian are for the middle classes and upwards. A load of bollocks that don’t speak to the common man. The guardian is for cunts who want to seem educated, cool, sophisticated etc. Indie. Those peopl on that podcast knew nothing. The guy who was claiming to be a Vh fan wasn’t. He’d just done some reaearch. It’s because they can feel a groundswell of how anticipated this new album is and want a slice of cool. Nothing cooler to these twats than retro. I’m 32 and play in bands. I know a lot of bands who are full of 18 yr olds who have got into vh and that generation is waiting too. Posh twat indie brits and guardian readers do not represent our country. Music journalism has always been shit in Uk and US. Rolling Stone and others all, famously, used to criticise Led Zep in their day. As if. Cunts who try to be cool are just Cunts!

Does anyone really think Dave, Ed, Alex, Mike, Sammy, etc. give a damn what ANY critic thinks of them or how they express themselves musically? These articles and “All time greatest rankings” are B.S. attempts to get clicks to their webpages or increase magazine/newspaper sales. My favorite is when they laughed at Van Halen calling their 2nd album, Van Halen II. It was a very smug/highbrow swipe at Van Halen (and their fans) being simpletons and stating the obvious. But, couldn’t the same be said about the Almighty Beatles naming their blank album cover, “The White Album”? They can take their misinformed accolades and smug humor and kiss my Frankenstrat striped ass!
