Ripoff of the “Hot For Teacher” video
Wednesday, 8 July 2009
A new video by Escape The Fate rips off Van Halen’s classic “Hot For Teacher” video. What’s sad is, if you had not seen their video, and perhaps only heard their song on the radio, you would not be able to tell which one (out of thousands, it seems) of these new crappy bands that you were listening to.

They obviously stole the video concept from Van Halen. I think they’re trying to get people to talk about them any way they can. Even if that means ripping somebody off. The song is crap and the video doesn’t coincide the the music at all. Just trying to drum up interest IMO.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:36 am
wow, just wow……cant these fucking idiots just slit their wrists and be done with it instead of ruining our good music.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Well, the song does sound like every other over produced Emo-type band around.
But if they are VH fans and paying a little tribut to VH with this video that is cool. I hope that they are true fans and not just ripping off VH.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Are these F’ sticks even playing their instruments? I get a profound Milli Vanilli vibe off of them. Sad.
Viva el Van Haleno!!
July 8th, 2009 at 10:05 am
last time I saw something that looked like that, I flushed it
July 8th, 2009 at 10:12 am
a. Horrific music.
b. The Hot for Teacher video idea has nothing to do with the song.
c. If you cant even come up with your own video concept you should not be in the music business.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:22 am
If it wasnt for bands like Chickenfoot, The White Stripes, Girl In A Coma, Kings of Leon, or Chili Cold Blood, I would think today’s rock would be complete crap.
At least these bands are still carrying the flag. Unlike Escape To Masturbate.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:30 am
What a pile of crap. I made it through the first 30 seconds and I will contact the band and ask for compensation of losing 30 seconds of my life for that crap.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Complete shit.
Is it possible to become a douchebag for even watching this?
July 8th, 2009 at 10:35 am
pathetic
July 8th, 2009 at 10:35 am
this was poop on a Popsicle stick, the horrified diarrhea of music these days came to ruin America’s greatest Classic Hard Rock Band, the mighty Van Halen.
anarchy anyone?
or just leave it to the lawyers to write
“LAWSUIT” all over it.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
so bad on so many levels.
July 8th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Sounds like every other crap band out there! one more example of how f’d up the music business is…! did you look at these idiot kids?..the look of the band doesn’t even fit the shit music, nor the video! I call it the “Blink 182 sound” boy lets see how many shit California bands we can shove down the throats of music listeners! no vocals, no guitar? you look like a cross between Motley Crue and Poison….your signed! lol..piss on you..your music really SUCKS….
July 8th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
Cookie cutter BS. By a band who obviously does a lot of consulting about their image… Nikki Six as a lead singer with a wannabe Slash with aviator shades and a VH ripoff of a video… the sad part is most kids who watch this prolly think it’s original… freaking sad… I want to punch the singer in the face for the stupid expressions he makes… make those kids piss their pants in a dark alley, what a bunch of Posers!!
July 8th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
this sucks, this band isn’t going anywhere.
July 8th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
escape to shitville
July 8th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
The last time I saw someone ripping off a Van Halen video, it was Sam and Mike. At least Sam’s song was tolerable!
July 8th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
well this is prety old not really new I heard about this a few years ago singer went to jail now new singer but same old shit. very cookie cutter crap I agree its funny that they have shirts like canibal corpse slayer yet sound like bubblegum.
July 8th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Come on everyone, maybe this band is as big of VH fans as you guys and this is their homage to Van Halen.
They obviously knew it wasn’t original!
July 8th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
I’m dumber for watching the clip! I’ll have to counter blast the dumbness of the video with a few quality bong tokes and then subject myself to a Dr. Phil marathon!!!!
July 8th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I credit them for portraying their video after one of the greats…but man has music gone to Sh&t.
Tough out there..but the kids love it.
Steak and Cheese society today..
Hi Abe.
July 8th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
i hope eddie slaps a lawsuit on these guys, the we can all agree that hes in court for the right reasons!
July 8th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
That was really bad, I see the bar is really high to get signed as a band nowadays!
July 8th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
the song is shit! I hate these damn shitty little split tail bands. NOT LIKE THE PWR OF THE HALEN!
July 8th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Stupid…just stupid. But if Ed can find a way to file a lawsuit you know he will.
PS…that singer looks like a girl.
July 8th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Utter dog shit generic crap…lacking the class that VH has!
Hell ya from the UK!
July 8th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Wannabes, two guitars and not one solo……sad
July 8th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
This is total crap.
But, for those of you who went right to the ‘lawsuit’ idea, it’s likely they would argue this is parody and therefore protected.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Disgraceful.
Good point by Fred – this is definitely in poor taste (and badly produced), but is not really a violation of the law…although it’s so crappy it should be.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Please stop with all this exciting Van Halen news. It’s too much to handle.
July 8th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
No wonder the music biz is dead!! All these new bands are just made up Muppets!!!!! They don’t know what it’s like to slug it out playing 5-6 nights a week, in the some of the worst, smelly, rough houses and small stage that could only fit the drums, oh and not getting paid for some gigs!!! Playing in that environment would test any musician’s nerve or passion to keep going. Van Halen on the other hand played like their lives depended on it, like Eddie said once “It’s what I do, I’m a musician”. I should know I’m a musician too. But the real test of whether you’re up for this gig is when you play in front of only tables & chairs (nobody!!). That will test your passion and purpose on if this is all worth continuing. But like Eddie said once, “Whether you make it or not, having fun playing music is the most important thing!!” Amen King Edward!!! In fact for all those non musicians out there have a listen to the classic AC/DC song ‘Long Way to the Top If You Wanna Rock n Roll’. The lyrics tell it like it is. Some of my favourite lines in that song are “Gettin’ ripped off by the pay” and “That’s how it goes playing in a band”.
Van Halen did that for 8 years!!! They put in the mileage and they paid their dues. The record company came to them!!! Most of today’s bands are just copy cats and have no originality!!! Van Halen was turning out a new album every year (the Dave era!) including the massive marathon tours that went for over a year. They are the true warriors.
Most of today’s bands complain about a 7 hour flight or it’s too loud or the shampoo is running out WTF!!? But I’m not surprised when they don’t last, it’s to be expected!!!! They’re not real; they’re only a product of the corporate beast that the music biz has become.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
well i’m no fan but it’s obviously sort of an homage. you can’t steal things that closely and not being paying tribute. I just mentioned HFT too today on this USA Today pop culture site, check it out:
http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy/2009/07/pop-forum-meet-todays-featured-reader-4.html#more
July 8th, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Notice that their hair is perfectly, and strategically disheveled!! Fucking Idiots!!!…Just like supposed “Gangsta” Rappers….constantly talking about being “hard”, and whatever… yet they spend sooo much time on their hair that its just ridiculous!! I love Epitaph as a label. They’ve done things the DIY way.. they’ve put out alot of great records by alot of great bands, unfortunately, this is NOT one of those bands!!
July 8th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
You guys think that’s bad? Go down to Austin where I live. We have some of the absolute WORST local bands you’ll ever see.
I can count on my fingers how many good Austin bands there are. Live music capital of the world? What a crock of sh-t!
That title is only valid during the Austin City Limits and South By Southwest festivals.
Cause the rest of the time you’re subjected to 80′s and U2 cover bands. If that isn’t someone’s idea of hell I dont know what is.
Maybe I spoke too soon. Listening to a local band do their latest cover of Free Bird is painful to the ears.
July 8th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Blatant rip off for sure, but both videos suck. The only redeeming quality is Ed’s incredible solo and Alex’s pounding rhythm. The VH gang dancing (badly) in tuxes … you kidding me?
And for all the talk here about Hagar’s CF lyrics, have you listened to the pre-pubescent drivel in most of the early VH stuff? They were appealing to their target audience of course, but please. Jump, Panama, Hot For Teacher? I would have preferred and instrumental version of each with more Eddie.
July 8th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
better than chickenfoot.
July 8th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
This is indeed a rip off and Shut the hell up Dick-Head Bacon. Chickenfoot and Van Halen are better than this shit.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
I’m guessing these guys are huge VH fans and assumed they could steal the concept without getting caught because the world forgot who VH even was.
July 8th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
who stole the guitar solo?
July 9th, 2009 at 3:49 am
Well at least they have brought back some good memories for us. Nice to see VH in full flight in their best video.
July 9th, 2009 at 5:22 am
Why does it have to be a “rip off”…??? I think it’s kinda cool that a newer band pays homage to the masters. I thgought it was a pretty fun video to watch and see how they re-worked it. And actually…I wish there was a cafeteria scene in Hot for Teacher!
July 9th, 2009 at 5:54 am
A few thoughts here:
- if they’re going to lift this classic piece of VH celluloid, the least one of them could have done was wear a VH t-shirt as a “wink and a nod”.
- copying is the highest form of flattery I suppose, but wow, this singer just looks so completely gay. I’m betting he didn’t care what the teacher was looking like this year…
- in the opening scenes when they’re all looking so tough, I had to laugh. You could kick these bitches asses without breaking a sweat, and spend their lunch money on buying them some originality lessons.
Sorry to be so negative, but there’s not much to cheer about here…
July 9th, 2009 at 7:37 am
Ugh! When will Emo go away!? It really seems that record contracts are given away to anyone that can fit into a pair of girls’ jeans! Holy crap! Or more fittingly, wholly crap!
Thank God for Chickenfoot and Hot Leg — they prove that there are still bands out there that know how to rock!
July 9th, 2009 at 8:07 am
“History for all the wrong reasons”
Oh jeez…
These so called bands are so lame today. No substance…no balls. Just the same ol’ lets rip off something classic because we dont have an orginal bone in our whole body music. I NEVER liked that emo crap. Waaah waaah whiney bullshit. Where have all the REAL rock stars gone man?
The sad part is there’s some young kid who thinks this is good stuff. Pathetic.
There is nothing wrong with loving your idols or “learning” from them. But get your own style man! This is not even a nod to the masters. Gimmie the REAL thing anyday. I betcha after they play a show they all sit around drinking kool aid playing guitar hero.
July 9th, 2009 at 8:11 am
I thought it was “BORAT”
July 9th, 2009 at 8:17 am
its obviously a tribute to Van Halen. if anyone commenting actually did a little research into the band you would know they site GNR and Van Halen as their biggest influences.
July 9th, 2009 at 9:18 am
They are even ripping off Blink-182. Take the makeup off girls and grow a pair!
July 9th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Jimmy V8, the lyric is;”Gettin’ ripped off
Under-paid” just keeping things accurate.
July 9th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?
Anything that may draw younger audiences’ attention to Van Halen could be a good thing; might help them improve their musicianship!
July 9th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Diamond Dave Is a rock God !!! Van Halen Had the best videos & best Music ever Long live Classic Van Halen!!! P.S I don’t care who the bassist is !!
July 9th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Nah brother….
U eiether “got it” or you dont!
They dont!
July 9th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
Situations?…pure crap…shit at best.
All of ETF deserve wedgies from Eddie.
July 9th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
As if nobody MAYBE thought that this video was done as a tribute to VH by a few guys who looked up to Dave and Eddie as larger than life heroes which made them want to be “RoCk Starz!” ????
July 9th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
I`ll bet they`r next video “concept” will be a “sweet child`o mine” or “welcome to the jungle’tribute as well.
All flash-NO substance.Watch, now this band`s gonna end up famous as hell over this.I get the impression this “band”(what`s the name again?i forgot already)is willing to suck the sweat off a deadmans balls to strike it rich$$YOU CAN`T RE-MAKE A CLASSIC&CALL IT YOUR OWN!!!!
Remember that band that ripped off ZEPPELIN(not Whitesnake, the other one)with the single “Get It On”?
Look how well that turned out for them.
VHND is doing a great service to us fans-don`t get me wrong,It`s the currant state of the R&R BIZ that`s makes this so depressing.DAVIDLEEROTH wrote, concieved,Directed, produced&”choreographed” the entire Original”concept” of this video. Can the “singer” of this so-called “band” do the same? I seriously doubt it.
=VH= forever
July 9th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Eddie,
Regardless of whether or not the band sites VH as an influence, they don’t need a satirical video to pay homage. The video is awful and the music is even worse. Is this what kids are really listening to today? No wonder Hip-Hop is so big. That’s awful…at least wee could rub one off to the original. Even though the chicks are hot in this video, how can you rub one off to such horrific tuneage? Yuck…
July 10th, 2009 at 12:15 am
yep…that was crap, but at least there were hot girls in bikinis to distract from the suckiness (is that a word?) of that band.
July 10th, 2009 at 7:45 am
OMG! That was just a sad rip off!!! Come up with your own thing guys SHEESH!!
July 10th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Ok, very flattering to the VH guys thats all I can say really….but if a punk like that knocked my books outta my hands I’d shove his eyeliner up his A$$ sideways.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:04 pm
I agree that the song is terrible, but the video is pretty obviously an homage/tribute to a groundbreaking video, right down to the camera angles and Waldo’s tone of voice. If HFT had been some obscure thing that nobody had seen, then I might agree that it was a ripoff.
July 10th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
awful, awful, awful and it sucks too!
July 10th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
good clean fun.total tribute to van halen.their not trying to hide the influence.young bands are trying to figure out what it was about the old music that made it so good.a little bit of talent, a burning desire, and a ton of hard work.no substitute.
July 11th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I SMELL A LAWSUIT! GO THEM EDDIE!!!! LMAO
July 11th, 2009 at 7:10 pm
I’ve never even heard of this band? And yes the editor is correct, just more crappy new music.
Was that lead singer really that sexy to those women?
I am certainly not amicable toward these new guitar players, but with all the instruction, tab, and influence out there, you would think these fellas could be a bit more dynamic.
July 12th, 2009 at 7:00 am
Faster Pussycat ala 2009?
July 12th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
This is a recent song? Sounds like 1998 “fake” punk.
I think I actually hated music for a few minutes there (or was at least embarrassed for being a music fan)
I need to play Mean Street and remember why I like music
July 13th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Epic Fail. Douchebaggery the likes of which I can barely comprehend.
Die. Die in a fire. Die in a fire emo-tards.
July 13th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
IMITATION IS THE BEST FORM OF FLATTERY!!
July 13th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Glad every band nowadays is keeping it original…. wtf…
July 14th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Well now this is the time to be “thankful” to rock gods like eddie, roth, jagger, moon, plant, page, morrison, ozzy, etc etc!!!! Thank the rock and roll heavens for these cats!
Escape the fate (lame ass name) is the reason rock is considered dead my fellow VH lovers! (Even thou in our hearts we know that REAL rock will never fuckin’ die
)
I forgot who posted awhile back with the comment about how these bands today have NO CLUE whats it like to tour and live on the road. EXACTLY brother! Right fuckin’ on!
Even all those cheesy hair groups that people hate had balls and went out and…performed LIVE!!! VH, SABBATH, ZEPPLIN, THE WHO, (to many to name!) all LIVED BREATHED and shat rock n roll. It was in their blood…it was what they loved. It was about the MUSIC. Now its about INSTANT stardom….INSTANT celeberty status….INSTANT rockstar! and these guys are getting LAID! LMAO!!! It’s amazing what girls find attractive or intresting. Then again keep in mind that a good percentage of these girls are wanna be’s too and think that miley cyrus is like the best next like thing ok? Hannah montana a rock star? Please dont make me laugh my ribs hurt enough from watching this crap!
My point is guys, that we are ALL very lucky to have been brought up surrounded by some of the BEST rock groups ever. Granted a lot of us were too young to see some of those CLASSIC LIVE SHOWS…but we all know our shit…and we defend it! You think anyone is gonna get into a fist fight over escape the fate? Actually now that i think about it…i would. If you were to say they’re better than VH!
July 14th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Here’s a band that DID mean it as a tribute (since the lead singer and the guitar player used to be in the VH cover band The Atomic Punks):
Steel Panther “Death to All But Metal” (Uncensored)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5tl2_K-d-g
July 15th, 2009 at 6:22 am
Well, Let me first say it was not the worst I’ve ever listened to and even David Lee once said when he was young and just developing a style he had to borrow and steal from various sources. Besides who doesn’t love looking at hot chicks it was the main reason why the video killed the radio star. I’ll just continue to wait patiently for new mattial and new vids from the real deal. Van Halen with Roth rules.
July 15th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Brooklyn: No matter what dave said or did it was never “obvious” who he “took it from”.
Sure you might say there was a little jagger there…a little tyler…but what dave did was take what he saw growing up and put a new spin on it. There has not been one show that i caught (on bootleg of course..was too young to see the classic shows)where I said to myself…damn dave acts like mick jagger. You get my drift. VH to me is one of the best rock n roll bands in the world because EVERYTHING they brought to the table was their own! Especially the sound.
When i see bands like escape the fate I cringe because it’s a slap in the face to what REAL music used to be. I couldnt even imagine growing up as a teen around this time! Ugh!
A band comes out….you love the music…you see them live…they suck live! Why? Cause these producers today are mostly cut and paste computer nerds that feel that an album has to be perfect to sell. Now maybe in todays world!
But back in 1980 when the CLASSIC; Women And Children First was released we had a song called :Everbody wants some!!
On that song there’s a part where dave sings: “Ive seen a lot of people just looking for a moonbeam” in his own way. Goback and listen to the way he sings that! It’s so cool….it’s freewheeling baby! Listen to it you’ll see what i mean. Today? “Um guys could someone tell dave that he didnt sing the words as whats written…we need to fix that”
July 19th, 2009 at 12:23 am
David Lee Roth once said “music nowadays is getting really incestuous & you know what happens with incest. Sooner or later you’ve got retarded children!” These guys are the living proof. Does the world really need Good Charlotte with wigs?! Roth on!
July 19th, 2009 at 12:27 am
Even if it IS a tribute to VH, it’s a pretty damn expensive tribute! I’m sure a striped guitar in one of their videos would’ve got more mileage and credibilty. Their publicist should be shot!!!
July 19th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Horrible music! The lead singer in the ETF video is now in prison for being involved in the death of a kid. What a hot mess…
