"Diamond" Dave Update
January 20, 2004
The new year may bring some big changes for former Van Halen-frontman David Lee Roth. Most likely, however, they won't involve a return to Van Halen.
According to a report published by FM radio station 106.7 "The Drive" in Detroit, the "Diamond One" could be headed back to Las Vegas to star in his own X-rated revue. Dave is reportedly in negotiations for a long-term deal, and spokeswoman Angela Sampras says, "We are creating a whole new show for David. With our creative genius and his talent for comedy, I think we can have yet another hit show." Apparently the producers of Topless Revue X are driving this project with Dave. This would be DLR's second stint as a Las Vegas showman. He performed a lounge-type show at Bally's in 1995 with his 14-piece ensemble called the BluesBustin' Mambo Slammers.
In other related Dave news, in a recent interview for "Guitarist" magazine, John Lowery, who played on and wrote music for Dave's 1998 DLR Band album, said he is currently writing music again for DLR. Whether DLR decides to use any of the music for an upcoming album is anyone's guess.
Lastly, rumors always seem to swirl around a possible reunion of the "Eat 'Em And Smile" Band, which consisted of DLR, guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Gregg Bissonette. In a recent interview, Steve Vai had this to say about that, "I hear those rumors too, occasionally, but there's nothing like that planned as far as I know." It is our opinion that it is highly unlikely this would ever happen, or that all parties involved would be interested in such a reunion.
Stay tuned for more Dave news as soon as it becomes available.
Here's some recent pictures of Dave and his new look, from his show at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey last month.
