Eddie Returns To The Stage
August 15, 2002 -
Eddie Van Halen made a brief return to the stage last Saturday night when he
joined Leslie West & Mountain for one song during their show at the House of
Blues in West Hollywood, California.
The following is an extract from a review of the show posted to Leslie West's
message board by Richie Baccellieri:
He started with classic Leslie solos to warm up and ripped into Blood of the Sun,
this was followed by Leslie talking to the audience about an "amateur" guitarist
who he had invited on stage. This amateur was none other than Eddie Van Halen. Yes , Eddie Van Halen..
They proceeded to rip into "Never In My Life" trading licks back and forth. Talk about
loud. Leslie, the pro that he is, let Eddie take most of the soloing and all the
fills until it was his turn and then he taught the virtuoso a thing about tone and
vibrato. I mean, I love Eddie, no doubt he is one of the greats, but mess is
sometimes more when it comes to expression on the guitar. Still it was a thrill to see
the respect given to Leslie by Eddie.
