SAMMY HAGAR'S "CABO WABO CANTINA" ROCKS WITH THE SOUNDS OF
METALLICA IN A SURRPISE PERFORMANCE BY KIRK HAMMETT
SAMMY TO JAM WITH JASON BONHAM'S BAND, "HEALING SIXES" FOR
SHOWS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, MAY 17 & 18
Sammy Hagar's "Cabo Wabo Cantina," has been a celebrity destination since Hagar became an active
owner and host at the hot Cabo San Lucas, Mexico nightspot in 1989. Since then, the legend
has grown and "drop-in" jams have become a regular occurrence.
Last Friday night, a local band of Mexican rockers calling themselves "Vitamin T" were in the
middle of a set, jamming to a cover of the Metallica song, "Until It Sleeps." At the mid-point
of the song, vacationing Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett walked into the club. In the
true spirit of the "Cabo Wabo Cantina," Hammett immediately made his way to the stage and
joined "Vitamin T' for over an hour in an impromptu jam.
"That's what the place was built for," Sammy commented upon hearing the news. "It's like a
second home to me and that stage just loves to be graced with the loud sounds of rock."
Musicians and celebrities over the years who have come to the club include Van Halen,
Bono, Alice Cooper, David Crosby, Tony Curtis, Jerry Cantrell, John Entwistle, Rachel
Hunter, Chris Issak, Oscar De La Hoya, Raquel Welch, Slash, Iggy Pop, Dennis Rodman,
Matt Sorum, Steve Jones, Randy Newman, John Taylor, Tori Spelling, Vince Neil, Bob
Weir, Lars Ulrich, Rob Zombie and many others over the years. In addition to the Cabo Wabo
Cantina, Hagar has spun off a number of successful businesses including the award-winning
Cabo Wabo tequila.
Hagar himself will be dropping in the Cabo Wabo Cantina for two nights of performances
with Jason Boluiam's band "Healing Sixes," this Thurs. and Fri. night (May 17, 18).
Hagar has recently been hard at work on an autobiography, telling the true story behind
his rise to rock stardom, his years with and without Van Halen, and candid reflections
on his family and upbringing. He is co-writing the book with long-time rock journalist
and friend, Dick Richmond, formerly of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Grammy winning artist Sammy Hagar has sold over 40 million albums worldwide including 15
solo albums (five are gold, five are platinum), six Van Halen albums (all six multi-platinum
worldwide) and two Montrose albums (one platinum). Throughout his career, Sammy has played
to over 50 million fans worldwide demonstrating the great songs and quintessential rock
vocals that have made him a rock icon.
