Vai & Sheehan Reunite For G3 Tour
May 15, 2001 -
Two thirds of David Lee Roth's "Eat 'Em And Smile" band will be reunited this summer
when Billy Sheehan joins Steve Vai on the G3 summer tour. It was
rumoured earlier that the whole band (minus Roth) would reform with
Gregg Bissonette on drums, but that has turned out to be false.
I can confirm that legendary Australian drummer
Virgil Donati will
join Vai and Sheehan for the tour.
Let me take a minute to indulge about the talents of Virgil. The guy is
from Melbourne, Australia (my home town) and is without doubt the best
drummer I've ever seen. I don't say that lightly either. I could
go on, but this is a Van Halen site. :) Believe it or not, one of the
first times I saw Virgil play was at a little pub called the Spyhole
around 1989/1990. He was playing in a Van Halen cover band called
"Hans Valen". Since then I've seen him over 20 times, and every time
I've come away from the show in awe of the man's talent. I can't stress
enough how good this guy is! I just wish the tour was coming to Australia.
The G3 tour will again be comprised of Joe Satriani with Stu Hamm on bass
and Jeff Campitelli on drums and Steve Vai with Sheehan and Donati. Joining
them for the first time will be John Petrucci (Dream Theater) with Mike Portnoy
(Dream Theater) on drums and Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs) on bass.

Dec 31, 2000 - 2000: The Year In Review
2000 has come and gone, and I don't have to tell you that it was probably
the most frustrating year ever in the life of Van Halen fans. "No news is
good news" got old real fast.
