Hamburg Show Cancelled

June 03, 1998 - Tonights show at the Docks in Hamburg has been cancelled due to an injury sustained by Alex Van Halen. The band's performance at the Karlshamn Rock Festival this Friday is also in doubt. According to the Official Van Halen Web Site, Alex's injury was caused by a piece of plaster that fell from the roof and struck his arm while he was warming up.

I'll have an update here if there are any further developments.

June 05, 1998 - Todays performance by Van Halen at the Karlshamn Rock Festival should go ahead as planned. Alex apparently has regained feeling in the arm that was injured on Wednesday when a piece of plaster fell from the roof and struck him.

Authorities today condemned the building where the accident took place. Reports say that a 4ft slab of brick and plaster also fell on the spot where Alex was positioned. This occurred just four minutes after he had moved.

VH Press Release

June 05, 1998 - The following is a press release from Van Halen regarding Alex's injury.

Van Halen Drummer Injures Arm

Entertainment Editors & Music Writers

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 4, 1998 -- Alex Van Halen, drummer for the rock group Van Halen, injured his arm Wednesday, June 3, which forced the cancellation of that evening's sold-out show at The Docks in Hamburg, Germany.

The injury occurred when a piece of ceiling fell onto his right arm during the band's soundcheck.

After Alex sought medical attention, doctors confirmed there were no broken bones; however, he is wearing a soft cast to protect it from further injury. At this time, the band is hoping they will not have to cancel any further dates. Alex's status will be determined on a day-to-day basis.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.

More Cancellations

June 10, 1998 - Van Halen's two UK shows have been cancelled, again due to Alex Van Halen's injured arm. According to the official VH site, Big Al's condition is being evaluated daily by doctors. Further information on the remaining European tour dates will be posted here as soon as it becomes available.
