Sammy on Stern March 05, 1999 - Don't forget, Sammy Hagar will be appearing on the Howard Stern radio show on March 9. Red Voodoo will be released worldwide on March 23. Mike Hartman InterviewMarch 05, 1999 - Last night we spoke to former DLR guitarist Mike Hartman. His first solo album, Black Glue will be released on April 6. The 2 hour plus interview covered all topics, including Hartman's stint in Roth's band and his relationship with musicians such as John Christ and Steve Vai. Sammy BookMarch 09, 1999 - A new book will be out soon telling the life story of Sammy Hagar. Entitled Red Storm Arising, the book is reported to cover everything from the Red Rocker's beginnings in music, right up to his forthcoming album Red Voodoo. Fans will no doubt be very interested in the chapter outlining Hagar's departure from Van Halen in 1996. We hope to have more information on the book over the coming weeks. Hagar Rocks The HRC
March 12, 1999 - Sammy Hagar's Hard Rock Cafe tour kicked off last Sunday night with his performance in Atlantic City, NJ. VHND correspondant and photographer Mitch Gerber attended the Red Rocker's New York show on Tuesday night and was very impressed. Sammy's New York show (where these photos are from) was filled with his Van Halen and solo classics, including Cabo Wabo and an acoustic version of Right Now. He also gave the small crowd a sneak preview of new tracks from Red Voodoo. If you have the opportunity to catch one of Sammy's HRC shows, don't let it pass. No official tour dates have been announced yet, but the Hard Rock Cafe tour will continue through March. Here are the dates, courtesy of redrocker.com:

Van Halen Honoured With Diamond Award 
March 17, 1999 - The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently introduced a new Diamond Award for record sales in the USA. The Diamond Award supplements the existing Gold (500,000 copies) and Platinum (1,000,000 copies) sales landmark. For a release to achieve Diamond status, it must sell 10 million copies in the USA. 
Members of Van Halen were present at the inaugural Diamond awards ceremony at the Roseland club in New York this past Tuesday to receive two diamond awards. Van Halen (1978) achieved the 10 million sales milestone on August 7, 1996. As we reported here last month, 1984 was certified 10 times platinum on February 17, 1999. Diamond Award Design (RIAA): "The crystal Diamond Award is adorned with a 728-ct. crystal diamond placed in a faceted sterling silver setting. Each setting is engraved with the RIAA logo and the initials of the designer. The 12î high award sits atop a black tapered, 3 1/2î high base, engraved with artist presentation text." Unfortunately, Kenny G dropped (and broke) his diamond award when it was presented to him!
