"A diamond in the rough is better than no diamond at all."

Love him or hate him there's little doubt there is anyone else quite like David Lee Roth. Got to see his "Van Halens' greatest hits" tour last night at "Tulsa City Limits". It was pretty fantastic to hear "DLR" sing the songs he shines on best with.

His band had definitely studied their Van Halen songbook! The highlights for me were: Dance The Night Away, Panama, Atomic Punk, and of course Jump!!! I think Dave is one of the all time greats and wish him and Eddie could patch it up, but if not that's life.

Also, someone in the croud threw a coin that hit Dave and he had them thrown out of the show, that was pretty funny seeing that guy get dragged off. I've seen Dave with and without VH a number of times through the years and this show was pretty cool. The croud was going wild and yelling Dave! Dave! Dave! As he left the stage! Also, if Dave does really read these reviews I'd like to tell him to get a haircut and embrace his baldness and not to drink on stage. I think it does hurt your performance some, but you're still ol #1 in my book. Rock on Diamond Dave!!

WOW, what a concert!! Seems Dave hasn't changed much since I last saw him in 1984. Pure adrenaline fun from start to finish. Dave still has it. Plenty of Dave one liners. Somebody apparently threw a beer bottle up on the stage and Dave spouted out ,"Hey man I've got your girlfriend backstage............." you know the rest.

Dave played to the crowd the whole time. Spurted a whole liter of Jack Daniels over the people in the front. In, of course, ejaculation style. His voice was there. He can still kick and swagger. I was impressed.

I think by doing practically nothing but Van Halen songs, he may be trying to tell us something. Maybe there is a reunion in the midst. The guitarists, Bart, was good. He has developed his own style of playing Van Halen. Sounded good. He maybe was drowned out by the bass a little but his sound still squeeked through. I know he wasn't trying to play Eddie's licks exactly the same way Eddie does it, but it still kicked ass.

The drummer was good. Loud fast and did a good job. How old is that kid? 16-18? Bass was good. A little too much at times but it rattled my brain and vibrated loose three fillings and a cap but hey, that's rock and roll. I'm suing the bass player for damages. (just kidding). DAVE come back soon!!!! Well worth the money.

I am a big Van Halen fan and went to the show last night expecting some really good old VH songs. First, I was pissed when Dave didn't come out to 11:30 pm when the tickets stated the show would start at 8 pm. I felt DLR is a has-been and is out of touch w/ VH fans and Rock n Roll fans in general.

I grew tired of his sex show when 90% of the crowd was male. He didn't know the words to the songs and only sang for 80 mins. I paid $25, and felt ripped off. Never again. Sammy Hagar and Def Leppard came last year and they blew DLR away. Hang it up Dave.

Lock and load rock and roll!! Still gettin over the hangover! The show was great. Dave hit the stage 'round 11:00. (much to the dismay of some). They kicked off with Hot For Teacher and never looked back.

The band was great. Were they Ed, Alex, and Mike???? Of course not. They did do a hell of a job playing the old Van Halen tunes. Dave???? Well he was his old kick-ass self! His voice was better then expected and the kicks!! Dave did his pattened split jump off the drum riser during Jump and also did the mike stand a real work-out about half way through the song.

I hope Eddie comes to his senses and asks Dave back. Dave is more than "Combat Ready" for the job. Dave really deserves to play the big arenas again.

Catch this club show if ya can! It's Steak and Lobster at a ground round price!

Better late than never. I have waited a full two weeks to think about how I'd like to describe the "DLR" experience I had in Tulsa on December 1. First, let me say that this man's voice and the three guys he used to make music with has been a big part of my life and I've never experienced the group as a whole, only in parts and on video. Anyone who has ever seen the "US Festival" video or reads these reviews daily should kind of know what to expect when you go to see Dave.

The great thing about it is that you actually can go see him and up close. Dave has always said he would take the music to people everywhere and he is a man of his word. Does he still hit every note of all the classic songs as he did on the recordings? No, but you have to remember this is one take live music, and it is almost 20 years later than when he laid some of this stuff down. I challenge anyone to go out and rip off a death yell reminiscent of those ending "Romeo Delight", go out and party like a rock star for the evening and then put on a flawless performance the next evening. Ain't gonna happen and if you think it is, why don't you pass me what you're smokin'!

"Diamond Dave" has been putting this routine down as his occupation on his tax form for over 20 years. What do you fools expect! All I can ask of anyone when I lay out some of my cash for a show is that they give it all they've got. Dave pulled out all the stops and left it all on the stage and for that, I thank him. And anyone that's ever tried to play music with others will too.

Playing music in a band can be one of the most "emotional rollercoaster" type settings a person will ever find themselves in. Do I want Dave to be on stage next year with Ed, Al and Mike? Of course, as all true old school Van Halen fans do! I really do believe Dave is more than up to the task of touring and recording with Van Halen again, if that is what comes to pass.

He sang almost all Van Halen songs at the Tulsa show, many I thought I'd never hear him do live. Again Dave, thanks! Music is a very special thing, and I find it hard to digest someone getting on here, and just because they have computer access to this site, all of sudden, they're some hotshot music critic! So to all of you, I leave this inside bit of information that only Dave and all true fans of Dave will know what I mean. You are all near the breaking point! About to explode. When humanity sits down, I just hope he doesn't have on white pants! Maybe this is more of an overview than a review, but some things must be said. Thanks Dave for all the music, jokes, good times, videos, and the book. Also, tell Jeff, Warhead says thanks!
