Review by John M. Tyler - mr_jester@hotmail.com Let me start by responding to a review of a DLR show that someone saw in another city. No, Dave, you are no Mike, Ed, or Al...thank God. While those guys are all on disability, you're still jumping around, singing, screaming, and kicking like you did 20 years ago. Think those guys could keep up? Not even. I must say that I've read all the reviews about how great this show was going to be, but I didn't actually understand until I was actually there. I was right next to the stage, at times only a foot away from DLR himself. He sang his ass off; he didn't miss a beat, a note, a lyric, a kick, nothing. Unlike every show I've ever been to, there wasn't a dull moment the whole time. By the time most concerts are over, I'm bored and ready to go home, not this time. It was pure adrenaline the whole time. During the last number, Jump, he still had enough energy to pull off dozens of spinning kicks and twirl the mic stand around like a baton, all this after drinking Jack Daniels all night. Simply amazing. This was the best concert I've EVER been to. I've seen Van Halen live with Sammy, and it doesn't even come close. VH needs Dave back, not the other way around. The only reason I'd want him back in the band is because it would be huge, they would play to sold out stadiums again. Dave deserves crowds like that because he can still perform better than anyone that's been playing those places lately. I can't say enough good things about this show. I could write a book, but I could never really describe what it's like to be there. Take my advice, DON'T MISS THIS SHOW! Sure the man can still kick and scream...but why in the hell does he choose to fill his entire set with songs from his distant past?? Dave had some memorable songs throughout his solo career but chooses not to perform them...Instead he, like a parasitic leech, chooses to play songs that he KNOWS Van Halen hasn't played since his departure...To him and some closed minded people that are thinking that it is STILL 1984, this is the best way to get back into the Van Halen fold...GOD FORBID!! I know any true Van Halen fan was dismayed when Gary Cherone took over as lead vocalist of the world's best rock and roll band...but even HE has more creativity than Roth!! Sitting thru the current David Lee Roth show is, at best, like watching a cover band...Sure they can play the tunes, but the magic is GONE!! Message to VAN HALEN: Leave Dave in the bars and dives where he belongs and welcome the RED ROCKER back into a once classy situation... All the folks that didn't realize that Dave was ever gone should themselves remain with him in the early 80's...with Dave Van Halen would never progress...with HIS fans, Van Halen would stagnate...into a rut amongst themselves... Van Halen deserves to move forward, and Dave DOES NOT deserve a third chance...If he cared about the fans at all, he would have Eat 'Em & Smiled and realized what made him famous, before biting the hand that fed him in '96...... In the words of Roth..."I got no love...No love you call real"...Let's complete the lyric and not be waiting at home. IP: 209.240.200.124 |
