Review by Jay - jay@jayleal.com I just got back from the show. The show was great. If any others are on the fence whether to go to one of the remaining shows, I urge you to go. I was phenomenal! The set list was the same as the others but it was still was great. Dave did make a Gary Cherone joke. Someone threw a cup at Dave and security walked on stage to escort the guy out. Dave then made a comment saying he looked like Gary and that no, he could not have a gig. With a heavy hispanic audience Dave catered and spoke many times in Spanish. It was great. I'm assuming that like at other shows, Dave says that the current audience is the best audience of the tour. But I really believed him. The audience was really fired up by Dave and after he finished Jump, we gave him a five-minute ovation. He seemed to almost apologize that he couldn't do any more songs. It was a superb show, but like another reviewer stated, Dave is starting to show his age. I don't know if he would still be a good fit for Van Halen, but he sure did fit in tonight. He seemed to lap up all the attention. He played the same set list and said the same lines that I read from previous shows. Although I thought he put on a great show and I think he is a great showman, I have a hard time seeing him back with Van Halen. I don't think Eddie and the boys can spend a year touring with him because he still acts like he is 20 years old. Hit the stage right on time and jammed for 85 minutes with non-stop, full throttle rock and roll the way it's supposed to be done. All the great VH tunes sung by the only guy on the planet who knows how to due 'em. Voice sounded great and was in unbelievable physical shape. Spin kicks galore and the splits off the drum platform to close the show. The rumors of him not having it anymore are completely bogus. Ed, do the right thing.... IP: 63.22.221.176 Review by Andy Patterson - Yelojack@aol.com First of all I have to say I was really impressed with the show. The non-stop energy Dave had and the movement from song to song. There was no down time in between. I learned a while back that Dave no longer has that top layer to his voice. The screams and whistle like effects. That seems to have been burned off he has been doing this a long time. The voice matures or sustains damage, whatever. But Dave hit every note he went for and everything in the original key except for Yankee Rose I think. I found myself thinking during the show, "you know Eddie says he couldn't do this any more - I've said he couldn't do this any more - but after this show I think he really could." Other than the fact that the show started way later than was supposed to and that they played tons of crappy music (Judas Priest, crappy rap stuff) beforehand, it was a great show. The band copped all the VH stuff really well. Dave must laugh that GIT and such schools are now teaching people to play music he helped create. And that those type of guys are now playing with him. Dave had a good time ejaculating Jack Daniel's all over this girl in an incredibly violent and funny manner. My only final thought is that how do those guys play so bone crunchingly loud and not sustain some sort of hearing damage. I saw him a few times during the night covering his left ear while standing next to a stack the way operatic singers are trained to do in order to find their pitch. I don't know what that would help when half of your skeletal structure has been decimated, but it was a good show. IP: 205.188.192.173 |
