David Lee Roth|
Review by Barry Thompkins - bt3@mindsprings.com David Lee Roth put on one Hell of a performance. I could not believe how great of shape he was in and how strong his voice was. I went with two of my old college buddies. We graduated from school back in '83 when VH was king. David Lee hasn't lost a step as far as I could tell, but I was hammered. The show started with Hot For Teacher and never looked back. He never said anything about rejoining Van Halen, but he did make a joke about it. He said that he heard that Ricky Martin was going to be the next lead singer. Then he did his hip movements and sang a line from Livin La Vida Loca...it was hilarious. Thank You Dave!! IP: 129.118.178.42 Review by C White - barline99@hotmail.com All I have to really say is that Dave kicked ASS! Now all we need is for the Van Halen brothers to put their hollier than thou bullshit attitude aside and get Dave back in the band before they flop again as in the case with Ferry Cherone. Dave will bring something back to the band that they haven't had in a long time, the energy and the raw edge that the band has been lacking for some time. Here is an idea, a Van Halen reunion tour with the reunited Kiss. Rock on Dave! IP: 208.242.251.8 Review by Tom McElreath - tom.m@airmail.net I think the picture tells the story!!!! The DLR Band kicked off the 3rd leg of the 1999 tour Tuesday night in Lubbock, Texas at Liquid 2000. Around 1500 people packed this club to see this great rock band, David Lee Roth still continues to define what rock n roll is all about!!! I must admit "winners come and go, legends are forever". IP: 207.136.25.139 Review by Troy Solis - troy1@vanhalen.com Liquid 2000 is a small intimate club that fills up with 1,800 people max and allows fans to sit or stand. Before the show, everyone was getting restless as the Kid Rock CD that was playing kept skipping before finally being replaced with "British Steel" by Judas Priest to many cheers from the crowd. Dave was scheduled to hit the stage at 10:30 CST but didn't step out until 11:15. The lights went down as the band members took the stage and began playing 'Hot For Teacher'. Kid Rock and the delayed start of the show was quickly forgotten as Diamond Dave came out to deafening cheers. The 1980 World Invasion Tour was the last time Dave had performed in Lubbock and the crowd anticipation was very high for Tuesday's performance. The show was general admission so I stood in front of the stage working my way forward. As expected at any Texas performance, they were several hotties at the very front of the stage. Dave flirted with the ladies before dousing them with a bottle of Jack Daniels. Several times during the night, you could tell Dave was impressed with the crowd response to his songs by his facial expressions. The rowdy crowd and the good-looking women helped make Dave's performance more energetic, I'm certain. The band rocked as backup to the Diamond One. Bart Walsh was awesome as his facial expressions showed he was on target with all of the guitar licks. The bass player's significant other was at the show so he was performing on top of his game, as well. The drummer, well, he didn't wearing a neck brace and he never missed a beat. It was incredible to hear Dave sing 'Dance The Night Away', 'Little Dreamer', 'Atomic Punk', 'Ice Cream Man', 'Everybody Wants Some' and many other VH favorites. During 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love', Dave held the hand of a woman who pulled it back quickly when Dave placed it on his crotch. Ha! There wasn't much talk from Dave during the show to reflect on the current Van Halen lead singer vacancy. Of course, no reference was necessary since everyone knows who has the voice for those classic VH songs. My one complaint about the performance is the failure to include 'Unchained' in the setlist. Aside from that, Dave kicked ass and jumped to Hell and back to prove that he still has what it takes to sing the classic hits. A great show and a superb performance in a small intimate club setting. Dave, don't wait another 20 years to play Lubbock again. With or without Eddie and the boys, you still kick ass! IP: 206.254.227.100 Review by Mailani Martin - Mailani@aol.com The show was one of the best I have seen here in Lubbock in a long time. The place was packed and everyone was having a great time. The song line up could not have been better. David had so much energy and excitement, you just could not believe it. If you get a chance to see David, all I can say is go, go, as fast as you can - you don't want to miss this show IP: 208.234.231.218 |
