Review by Dave - mamamokey@yahoo.com Went to the show yesterday. DLR kicked ass! He was the last act following Eddie Money. Man, Eddie Money looks like shit. My wife, who really isn't a DLR fan, said Dave made "everyone else look like a joke".... which wasn't hard to do. Dave was sharing the day with: Pure Prarie League?, Eddie Money (soon to be dead.. looks worse than Keith Richards), Steppenwolf (bunch of really old farts.. didn't sound bad though) and FogHat (didn't see them... went home for dinner). Dave opened up with "Hot For Teacher". It really got a dead-ass crowd rockin'. Dave sounded great, looked great and performed great. VH really needs this guy.. and I think maybe Dave would have a great time with them. Half way through the show I realized that Dave probably is doing this (tour) to show the EVH crew that he still "got it". All of the bullshit EVH and AVH said on MTV that Dave would be a joke on stage is complete crap. Too bad they all can't get along. I really like Todd Jensen on bass. He really sounded good. Bart did the VH stuff very well... anyone know if this guy does any original material? I would be interested in hearing it. Ray Luzier sounded awesome. This guy pounded the hell out of his kit all night long. I think Dave and his band had a great time.. even though the place wasn't packed. I asked one of the security guards how many people were there and he said looked like 4000 to 5000. The Nissan Pavilion could hold 20,000+ I think. He said that the radio station, 94.7, didn't do a good job of promoting this (it was a beer festival.. mostly.. with the bands..). I would definitely go see Dave again. I hope EVH catches one of his shows.. he would be very surprised at his "Golden Boy". Too bad they can't get along.............. His voice is powerful and growling and he still hits some awesome screams. The band played well. I was really impressed by Ray and Ty. Bart played close to the album, but he should give up on Eruption. No one plays it like Ed. Dave was all over the stage with jumps, spin kicks and mic stand twirling. Dave is one of the last true entertainers; he not only sang the songs, but interacted with the audience by telling some funny stories and one-liners. Most singers today barely say a word to the audience other than the title of the song they are about to sing. Rock on Dave! I will be brief folks - I am a huge Eddie Van Halen fan, I play guitar, etc.- so I listen closely to what these guys are doing and I must tell you - Dave completely smoked compared to the VH3 tour. The band was great, Bart Walsh was outstanding and if you dig Van Halen - dont miss it! IP: 147.9.52.192 |
