Hi there - I saw David Lee Roth on The Skanderborg Festival and I won't lie to you - so I'll have to say that it was in 2 ways a big disappointment! I'll get back to that!!

It has to be said that the concert were held in a beautiful outdoor (it usually is outdoors when it's a festival) environment!! BUT it was in the 'hillbilly' part of the country - which was very obvious when you looked at the guests - besides the ones who had come only to see Dave!! When Dave got on stage he was completely himself - 100% the Best!!! I was standing front row with my girl in front of me between my 'protective' arms - next to her stood my big-brother’s girl and my big-brother!! And Dave was flirting like a madman with both of em' and at one time when staring down my girl, I gesticulated like 'take her - she's all yours' and Dave grinned and kicked high in the air!

At some point some stupid inbred shithead hillbilly threw a beer at Dave soaking him and Dave gave him the finger and said angrily, plain and simple 'FUCK YOU'!!

The band was great and we were all having a great time until approx. halfway through the show when it became pretty apparent that the guy handling the lighting was a completely incompetent asswipe!!!!!!! A LOT of times Dave gesticulated for lights and spotlights for himself, the bandmembers and so on - but NOTHING happened!! - we had Bart Walsh standing in the dim playing solos and so on!! And it was painfully clear to see that Dave got more and more frustrated until at some time when he s e v e r a l times pointed at big set of lamps over the drumset, for them to be turned on - And the stupid fuck (man I'm getting angry writing this) with the lights didn't get it - nothing happened and he stopped all the music!!! And said "Ok turn on ALL the lights on the stage, turn ALL the MOTHERFUCKING lights on NOW - ALL OF IT. Turn it on!! and leave those motherfuckers ON for the rest of the show!" And the stage was bathed in lights and Dave literally rushed through the rest of the set!! hurried through the encore 'Jump' and ran off stage - Todd stopped him though (that's what it looked like to me) and they all bowed to the audience - And Dave rushed off stage!! (finishing the show 15-20 min. before scheduled).

To somebody who doesn't know Dave like I do it was still a great concert with a completely awesome frontman. But for somebody who knows his Dave and has seen him before... Well - It left me depressed like hell - I felt so sorry for Dave trying to perform at his best and then be obstructed by some fuck! - I was depressed because I had looked so much forward to this after Sweden and it was painfully obvious that Dave was on 'Auto-Pilot' for half of the show - no talk and no Rothims at all! I felt so ashamed when this was what my 'country' could offer Dave - hillbillies and bad lighting!!! DAMN DAMN DAMN.

This was one of the disappointments - the second one is even worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was on the festival working for a radio-station! Radio NRJ (energy) - It's an European chain of stations with a total of 10.000.000 daily listeners!!! Well - before the show I was backstage trying to get an interview with *the Man* of course (It has to be said that I don't work on the station regularly, but my friend does - and when he knew I was a BIG Dave fan, intelligent and with a sense of humor (yeah yeah - I know how this sounds!!) he thought it would be perfect to let me do the interview!

I talked with Mike Tramp (White Lion, Freak of Nature and 'Unicorn' - solostuff - Mike is Danish, but lives in America and had come ALL the way home to see "Diamond Dave" as he said it! - By the way he is reforming White Lion!! I talked to Big Ed, Todd Jensen and the sweet little brunette who handles Dave's wardrobe! They were all very cool! When I first saw Ed in the V.I.P area I shouted to him "I'm from radio NRJ and on the DLRML..." And Ed shouted back "... I won't hold it against you!" with a big grin!! (he also said that a single would come out soon!!) and some other guy selling Dave Tee's said they were going to tour Europe in October!) Well - to make a long story short: David Lee Roth would not make a press-conference before the show - BUT after the show he would do a small backstage meeting with only 4 selected journalists! And after a M A J O R quarrel with the press-chief at the Festival - guess who got on the list? - yours truly!!!!

When we left the press and backstage area and headed for the stage we met Ed and some other balled guy - it appeared as if they were hunting down chicks for some backstage party - And when we asked them how to get invited Ed said something like: "If you get 10 absolutely knock-out gorgeous hot chicks you'll get in! And I'm talking super chicks - on a scale from 1-10 they'll have to be 11 - no fat chicks no boring chicks - Super chicks - If you'll do that I'll take you to Dave!" And that was absolutely absurd - I brought my own sweet gals for the festival - but not ten of them - and certainly not 11's (only about 7-8 on a scale 8-) )

Well after the show we were led backstage by the press-chief, a TV-guy, and some small radios and me! And just when we were about to enter Dave's 'trailer' Big Ed came out and said the whole thing was cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW DISAPPOINTED I WAS?????????????

Well... from a 'professional' point of view I will have to say that Dave is quite a lame-ass... Here in Denmark he needs ALL the press he can possible get - He has probably sold like 8-10 copies of his newest CD and most young people here have no idea who the man is!! And here was an opportunity to have some good press! The TV-guys would even produce and send a "Dave -TV-Documentary" production!!! But NOOooo ... Little David was upset about the lighting!!!

(It's not that I don't understand him (read the above) - but it was a pain to stand backstage the day after and hear the festival organizers and the press people bitch about Dave not playing as scheduled, Dave not doing any press, Dave left almost immediately after the show, Dave's a snob etc. etc. when all he could have done was a little press-conference explaining himself!!)

Hmmm I'm getting depressed again...

What can i say that’s not have been said in the other reviews!

Me and my three pals from Norway travelled two hours with car, six hours with boat and then three hours with car and train to get a glimpse of the good old eighties. Yeah I admit, I’m stuck in the eighties, the music, the feeling, the girls, everything, but this was not just an eighties reunion party, to me a first time DLR viewer but a VH/DLR fan half of my life, this was a dream come true. Fuck all the spectators at the ”Smukkeste festival” who wondered ”who the hell is DLR and threw beer at him, and fuck the light fucker !” This was a lesson in pure adrenaline rock and roll ­ Seeing Roth for the first time didn’t make me miss the Rothism, the high jumps and the kicks. There where some really good kicks and he did the amazing martial art thing with the pole, but for a man in Roths age I’m full of respect!

David Lee Roth and the boys on stage made a brilliant performance the crowd and the lighting idiot taken in mind. There where a number of hard core Dave fans in the front rows that made this evening an unforgettable night! I think we had a great night!

From the first note on Bart's guitar, before Roth and the band hit the stage, the crowd constantly chanted “Eddie sucks, Eddie sucks”, I loved it! Being soaked in Jack from Daves bottle was also great, although some of my friends had a little bit too much Jack already!

Thanks to you Dave, thanks to the great band and thanks to the Danish guy with his girl in the front row with their face painted like the cover of “Eat Em’ And Smile” and the old VH-logo tattoo on his arm’ we had a hell of a party!

Take the party around the world and show the people what partying is all about, Dave!
