Review by Eric - ekruske@uswest.net So, yesterday afternoon, I put the top down and take a little drive (2 1/2 hrs. from Seattle) into the 105-degree heatblast of Yakima Valley (*where?* how the heck did Dave and Bad Co. end up HERE, anyway?); arrive in time to hear "Little Dreamer" at the soundcheck... Check in at the box office, hey! 3rd row for my sweetie and I. We'll take 'em... By the time Dave saunters out, mouth agape in THAT GRIN, we're in the (mostly empty) front row, dead center. SMILING HARD. By now you've all read enough of these reviews to know what's up at every show -- same ol songs and dance, same ol jokes, same ol Dave. AND GOD BLESS 'IM. Tt was f*cking GREAT. OK, so nobody in the new DLR band has an ounce of freakin CHARAZMA (even Mikey Anthony has more goin' on), they PLAY THE SONGS drop dead-ON, baby. 'So This Is Love?', especially, sounded better than I remember VH, Mach I doing it. And, Dave... well, he just has a gawdamn BALL, and be damned, those of you youngsters who don't quite get that the DAVE-SHTICK is just that : the Original, 100-proof tongue-in-someone else's-cheek frontman. Crotch-grabbing, Jack-spraying and I-don't-care. It's Dave's world, you're just invited to live in it for an hour or so. I've been going to see VH since 1980... I've missed the party spirit for a long time. It was alive, well and RAGING in Yakima last night. Thanks, Dave. I had a ball, too. Footnote: instead of "lookitall thepeeeople heeeere toniiiite!" (cause there really weren't), he quoted a Ricky Martin tune. and nobody got it (except the pretty little girl next to me, and she didn't know Dave used to be in Van Halen). IP: 131.107.3.82 |
