Review by Matt Hemmer - izzy99_31@yahoo.com Well, I traveled the two hours from my home town NY to see what the diamond one had to offer. He was awesome. I'm speechless. He doesn't need VH. I'm so happy because I get music from him, Ed, and Sam...three instead of just one. Dave had more energy than his exotic outfit..I only came up with 3 complaints:

Stabler is a 5000 seat venue and the word was that they only sold about 1000 tickets even with Bad Co. as the headliner. Needless to say the place was empty. I'm a big fan of every "version" of Van Halen, but have always favored the DLR era of VH. Well I wasn't disappointed because Dave got this small crowd going with a lot of vintage Van Halen. Say what you will about Dave's singing.....he knows how to work an audience. It was great to hear the old VH tunes live with Dave's voice for a change. I thought it was cool that he favored the VH tunes rather than his solo stuff. There's tons of 70's bands cashing in on their golden years nowadays so you can't blame Dave for doing the same. There was one part of the show where he did some Sammy bashing which I thought was kind of silly, I think he should put that to bed already. His band was pretty good but I agree with the previous review that the guitar player should skip the Eruption thing, Eddie should be the only guitar player allowed to do that live, when someone else does it, it's just not the same. Overall I enjoyed the show and was impressed with the way Dave was able to work the small crowd, he's a true entertainer. If you're a "Dave era" fan of VH, make it a point to catch one of these shows, you won't be disappointed. IP: 207.16.153.232 |
