Jacques Doucet, sportscaster at WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge and VH fanatic, is posting a five-part series this week on “LSU Football & Van Halen – The Best of Both Worlds: Rock Gods, successful/highly maligned replacements and the passionate fans that fight and argue over both.”

It is basically a buildup to this Saturday’s LSU/Alabama game. The premise is this….Nick Saban is David Lee Roth and Les Miles is Sammy Hagar.

We are posting the first three parts below. And here’s links to part 4 & part 5. Enjoy!

PART ONE: THE SCHOOL OF JACQUES

LSU is playing Alabama this week. What a perfect time to finally write this.

There will be no writer’s block. I will promise you that.

Yep, there’s no doubt. Not even a sliver. There are few things I have paid closer attention to during my life than LSU Football and the mighty Van Halen. C’mon Jacques, give us a break (One break, coming up.). Whether that’s cool or embarrassing, these are the facts. From the time I was a little boy until now, the two have sort of been like a religion, an escape, a hobby, my favorite reality show (VH truly gives ‘Jersey Shore’ a run for its’ money. It’s a “Situation” alright) … whatever you want to call it. I picked up on both around the same time. Sometime during the year of 1986, I bought VH’s “5150″ (still my favorite). It certainly wouldn’t be the last. Without shame, I bounced around my room playing a tennis

Sammy Hagar interview in Fireworks magazine

sammyhagarFrom issue #40 of Fireworks magazine:

“I’m gonna make a statement, and you’ll probably think I’m crazy…”

Sammy Hagar discusses Chickenfoot live, their “averagely brilliant” new DVD, Michael Anthony and Van Halen, Chad Smith being crazy, Joe Satriani being from another dimension, and why Sammy in a Smart Car is just a joke.

BUZZING!

By James Gaden

Fireworks Magazine Online - Issue 40Last year a brand new band exploded onto the scene known as Chickenfoot, sparking a lot of hype due to each individual member of the band being a star in their own right – ex-Van Halen bass player Michael Anthony, ex-Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar, guitar hero Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. Back in issue 36, James Gaden went to London to interview Joe Satriani in support of the album. Shortly after that, he attended the sole UK show at Shepherds Bush which was excellent. Chickenfoot’s live reputation impressed virtually all who had seen it, so a decision was taken to capture the band on tour for a live DVD and Blu-ray. ‘Get Your Buzz On’ is the result, a full live Chickenfoot show, backed with an hour long documentary of the band on the road. When offered the chance to talk to the legendary Sammy Hagar about it, James Gaden jumped at the opportunity to phone the enthusiatic Red Rocker to hear his thoughts on the latest product…

Hi Sammy, it’s James from Fireworks Magazine in the UK.

How are you doing Jim? Wow, we’ve got a great connection here, I thought with all the volcano in Iceland
