Hagar to aid burn unit
By George A. Paul, Staff Writer
Back in 1987, veteran rocker Sammy Hagar had a No. 1 hit on album rock
radio with "Give to Live." Now the tune has added relevance.
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Foundation and the former Fontana
resident have teamed to raise money for the Inland Counties Regional Burn
Center at the Colton hospital.
Proceeds from select tickets for Hagar and the Wabos' performance at Glen
Helen Hyundai Pavilion on June 3 will benefit the burn center.
"Those of us who are healthy should make commitments like these to help
others who are less "fortunate," Hagar said in a prepared statement. "I
feel that this is the least I can do. It is an opportunity handed to me as
a responsible, privileged person and this is the easy part of the job."
The burn center provides care for both adults and children. The facility
(the only one of its kind serving San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo and Mono
counties) plans to use the money to help fund a local burn camp for
children recovering from injuries and to purchase medical equipment
necessary for treatment.
"We have fund-raisers throughout the year," said Jorge Valencia, director
of business development and marketing for the medical center, "but this is
the first time we've done something with a musician or artist. This is a
unique and exciting opportunity" to raise money.
In related news, Hagar will be presented with a proclamation from the San
Bernardino County Board of Supervisors declaring Tuesday as "Sammy Hagar
Day."
Orchestra and loge level seats for the Devore concert are $55-$65 and
available through www.kcalfm.com or www.sbcounty.gov. Those who purchase
the charity tickets are entered into a drawing to win a VIP pre-concert
party. For more information, call (909) 793-2908.
