David Lee Roth on Howard Stern
Here is Mike Demers' review of the Howard Stern interview with David Lee Roth:
Hey!! Dave was just on Howard Stern!!!
It was great!! Dave was really funny and was
even coherent ;-). I take back everything bad
I said about Dave the other day. He was very
witty and interesting to listen to.
He said some pretty interesting things:
1. Dave says that the two new songs are
"bomb-proof".
2. Dave says that he is not officially back in
the band. Nothing is official yet. But let's
face it, if the two new songs kick as much ass
as we think they're going to, DAVE's BACK!!!!!
If they just tease us with this Dave thing I'll
boycott their asses!!
3. They are going to be shooting a video in a
couple of weeks. Dave said that he is not going
to be a creative force on the video and that it's
up to "them" what it will look like. I don't see
how this could be completely true. I mean how can
Dave be in the video and not inject some serious
creativity and more so, ATTITUDE??
4. Dave said that the difference between him and Sammy
is "like going from de-caf to speed-ball!!". He also
called Sam's lyrics "Valentines". Other than that
he really didn't slam Sammy too much and he went on
to say that he knows what he's going through.
5. Howard played that cut where Crackhead Bob sings Van
Halen and Dave said "With a decent video and a heroin
problem we might be able to move some serious product"
It was wicked funny!!
6. Dave said that the first day he was over at Eddie's
house, it was just him and Ed for a couple of hours
before Al showed up. Apparently Ed didn't tell Al that
Dave was going to be there and when he walked in to 5150
and saw Dave there he practically shit himself. Dave's
actual words were "He looked like he saw a ghost". Dave
went on to say that after Al got over the initial shock,
that he and Dave (and I assume Ed and Mike) sat around
and talked for like 7 hours straight....
7. Howard asked Dave if he would sing Sammy songs if they
tour. He basically said NO WAY!! That's fine with me!
They have basically ignored all of the first six albums
for the last 10 years, why not ignore the last ten years
with Sam??? They'll have PLENTY of material to play..
All and all, I would say that I am pretty optimistic that
Dave will be back for good. We know the two new songs are
going to kick ass. We know that they're going to make two
videos with Dave which MTV will play 24 hours a day. Dave
is the only man for the job. Period.
I really wish I would have recorded it becuz Dave had some
real gems in that interview. Like when Robin was trying
to interrupt Dave and he said "Hey, Hey, let me talk. You
guys are used to having guests that have nothing say!!!"
It was great!!!!!! He also mentioned something about the
"time out chair incident". Dave said that when he was
growing up "Time out meant the back of a hand".
I could write on this for hours, it was an awesome interview.
Dave has won me over. I had some doubts but I now believe
completely that DAVE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooo Hoooooo!!
