Producer Named
August 5, 1999 - Danny Kortchmar will produce
the next Van Halen album. The announcement was made recently via
the Worlds End
web site, and confirmed to us this morning by Valerie Bertinelli.
Worlds End is a management company representing producers,
engineers and mixers.
"Kootch" began working officially with Van Halen on Monday. His background
in music dates back to the mid-60's where he began his career as a
session guitarist for artists such as James Taylor and Carole King, playing
on the latter's Tapestry. He released solo albums in 1973 and
1980, but was best known during this period as a session musician for
artists including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and Don Henley.
Kortchmar moved into producing during the 80's, working on soundtracks
for Color Of Money, About Last Night and My Stepmother Is
An Alien. During the 90's he worked with Jon Bon Jovi, Spinal
Tap, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker and Spin Doctors.
Patrick Leonard has also been at 5150 working with the band as
producer. So far they have worked on two songs, but due to
Leonard's busy schedule the songs have not been completed.

News & Rumours
August 20, 1999 - Things are starting to move a bit
quicker in the Van Halen news department. It's funny - you can always tell when a new
Van Halen album is on the horizon by the amount of rumours going around... Some
of the rumours are too bizarre to even mention, other have been reported in many other
places so you've probably heard them already. First, the officially confirmed news:
Video Hits Volume 1 DVD: Van Halen's
Video Hits Volume 1 DVD will be released on October 5. Brad from
the Official VH Web Site
reports that the DVD will be the same as the VHS version, "with a
little surprise".
Vote on the set list: If you missed hearing
your favourite Van Halen songs on recent tours, you will be interested in the
Official VH Web Site's new
online poll. There you can vote for one song per album that you'd like to
hear on the next tour. The poll is open until October 1. The band are
said to be very interested in the results.
The new album: Work continues on the
next Van Halen studio album. Producer Danny Kortchmar has the band working
six days a week. Over 20 songs have been written to date. Song titles include
Left For Dead, River Wide, Say Uncle, You Wear It Well, More Than Yesterday,
I Don't Miss You...Much, Love Again, Rock and Roll Cliché and
I Want Her Anyway.
Now for the rumours...
Rumour - "EVH jamming with David Coverdale":
This one has spread like wildfire over the Internet during the past week. The rumour
goes like this: David Coverdale (Whitesnake lead vocalist) and Edward Van Halen
allegedly had a jam session recently. Also in attendance were Van Halen
bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Denny Carmassi and producer Bob Ezrin. They
are said to have jammed on 26 songs, including new tracks titled Sahara Rising,
Blues Movie and Brother Voodoo. A tape of the session is reported to exist.
Van Halen have denied this rumour 100%. They say EVH and Coverdale are
friends, but haven't seen each other since April 1993.
Rumour - New DLR tour dates:
DLR is rumoured to be playing at The Silo at Riveredge in Reading, PA on
September 16. Tickets $25, all general admission.

VHND Radio
August 20, 1999 -
I've had to close the VHND radio station. Thanks to everyone who tuned
in and sent messages of support and encouragement. Unfortunately, the
project was too big for me to do properly. If anyone else wants to
start up a station, go for it!!
Live Videos
August 20, 1999 -
One of the most popular features of this web site is the live
video section. Unfortunately, videos require enormous amounts of
bandwidth to serve properly. Every time I put a new video
up, the site gets overloaded. Until I find a way of serving up
the videos without killing the rest of the site, the videos will
be taken offline.
If anyone out there is willing to donate some web space, I'm
all ears!
Live Videos Update
August 23, 1999 -
We may have a solution to the problem regarding the over popularity
of the DLR tour videos. Stay tuned over the next few days for an update.
Thanks to all the generous people who offered their help!
