May 20, 1999 -
Canadian record producer Bruce Fairbairn was found dead in his home in
Vancouver on Monday. Fairbairn produced Van Halen's Balance album
in 1995 and the Humans Being single for the Twister soundtrack
in 1996.
According to MTV News, his body was
found on the floor of his bedroom by studio manager Sheryl Preston after he
failed to show up for a recording session with the band Yes.
In addition to his work with Van Halen, Fairbairn produced albums for Bon Jovi
(Slippery When Wet, New Jersey), Aerosmith (Permanent Vacation,
Pump, Get A Grip), AC/DC (Razor's Edge), Kiss (Psycho
Circus) and INXS (Elegantly Wasted) among others.
He is survived by his wife, June Glover and his sons Scott, Kevin and
Brent. A memorial service has been scheduled for Monday, May 24, at 2pm at the
Chan Centre for the Performing Arts
in Vancouver, BC.
Van Halen Update
May 28, 1999 - From the belly?
The official Van Halen site was
updated this week with information about the progress of the next Van Halen album.
The update featured candid photographs of the band hanging out at 5150, along
with working titles of some new songs.
Some of the new material currently in demo form:
- Left For Dead
- River Wide
- Say Uncle
- You Wear It Well
- More Than Yesterday
- I Don't Miss You...Much
- Love Divine
Please note: these are all working titles of songs that may not even
make it to the album. To quote an insider: "...things change hourly
around here (5150)".
On the issue of who will be producing, we reported in February that
Don Was had been slated to produce the album. It now looks like we
were led astray with that rumour! At the moment a producer has not
been chosen.
