A truly inspirational story!
John Denner may have been born without a hand, but that didn’t stop him from wailing on the guitar like Eddie Van Halen. Working around his birth defect, he devised a homemade prosthetic that could hold a guitar pick. He started playing and began to capture the attention of audiences, winning an online guitar contest playing Van Halen’s classic solo, “Eruption.” That got the attention of Howard Stern, who got him to appear on his radio show in 2007, putting him in the limelight. Now Denner’s story and incredible talent are getting more and more recognition.
“No role models. I was born without a right hand. There was no one doing what I wanted to do. Every guitar player I looked up to had two hands. I never stopped for a second to think, ‘This is not possible.’ It was a problem, solution.”
Watch the video above to see Denner deliver an amazing cover of “Eruption.” Just by listening to all the intricate picking, you would never believe he has any disability at all.
