Good post Bluesbro. Yet another perpetual circle jerk would be if Roth sang on CF III. I think this album is going to make a mark. The marketing of it has been well done – the podcasts, “making ofs” etc. Bigfoot’s been getting quite a bit of radio play. I’m just glad there’s a band giving us some real rock these days.

  • simon_nyc

LOVE Chickenfoot. The first album was awesome. The gig at the Beacon theater was awesome. And I’m hanging for my copy of the CD to arrive – which Amazon says is Thursday. When I’ve listened to the new album a few times, then I’ll check out all the “making of” vid’s

  • Carnal Knowledge

DropDeadLegs: He also said that he wishes Montrose never fired him…..19 years earlier than Van Hagar ended. Hagar also said “fuck those guys” in reference to Van Halen at the end. What people don’t seem to understand is he’s a huge fan of Van Halen and as pissed as everybody else that Halen doesn’t/hasn’t had any new music. So, while people will MAKE STUFF UP about Hagar wanting to be back in the band…..it’s nonsense. He’s never said it. Mikey’s never said it. Stop saying it. All he’s said recently is that he can see a day in the future where they ALL get back together. That’s it. Don’t spin it.

    Bluesbro: I concur completely.

Fuck the drama!!!!! Enjoy the tunes!!!! Catch a buzz!!!!!

I Don’t Understand the reason Everyone still Has To drive a wedge between CF and VH When VH has No New Music Yet! Van Halen Has Nothing To Go On. As much as I wish in a perfect world That Mike was still in Van Halen,I have Come to a conclusion that will never be.Sometimes Change is Good, this Change unfortunately Has made Mike and Sam walk in the Dark Shadows Of Van Halen, which from what I hear is that They emerged from those Shadows to become their Own!

hell, i just saw sammy and the wabo’s in columbus last saturday.
(3 doors down opened)the show was fantastic. sam mopped the floor with the other acts. i hadn’t seen him since ’07 and he’s in terrific shape vocally and personally.

he does not need any money, he’s just really good at making it.
    LOL.
he clearly is out there for no other reason than he simply just loves to do it. man, i just don’t get the hate. no one’s making you buy chickenfoot records!
i think a lot of this is just misdirected resentment about how van halen ISN’T any good at marketing and throwing the fans a bone now and again.

if van halen did HALF of what chickenfoot does in terms of streaming video and song teases thier record would go multi-platinum on pre-orders!
there isn;t a single solitary fan who wants van halen to fail, we ALL want the next record to be great-

we just need the next record! in the meantime, i’ll take a latter-day van hagar. hells to the yes.

and it’s inevitable that van halen’s line-up will change again.
i for one WON’T be surprised when sam and mike get back in.

“Roth needs studio gimmicks to help him sing”

If only there were studio gimmicks that could help Sammy to write.

    @Jor-L5150

Read something recently that applies to you saying you don’t get the hate:

“The selfish and envious spend a majority of their time trying to ensure that they are not alone.”

    Appropriate, I think.

  • No Mas Tony

I like the way VHND combined the updates into one story, instead of posting them individually… I dig the updates, but prefer them lumped together.

The podcasts are my favorite part of the marketing strategy. I don’t even like the song, “3 and a half letters”, but the story about it was interesting. I almost feel guilty for hating the song. Maybe ‘HATE’ is too strong a word. LOL. And sorry, Sammy, still not feeling “Big Foot”. The riff is bad-ass though.

    IMO: Packaging Walkthrough = DUMB

I’m curious to see what song they’ll release for the next single. This album has a TON of awesome songs on it. I hope to hear “Dubai Blues” on the radio next (plus a music video), that or “Something Gone Wrong”… but I bet “Different Devil” will be the next one.

Can’t wait to shoot down to pick up the CD tomorrow!!!

AND, NYC is a quick bus trip for me, might have to check out that 11/8 concert!

LOL @ Halen High. Hagar’s writing on (most of) this album is actually pretty good. BUT, that was a funny come back line none-the-less.

  • Panama Red

D.O.A. – That’s a good quote. It does seem that way sometimes.

  • Jor-L5150

well if sam is such an unlikeable tool, why is it EVERYONE in the music biz loves working with sam?

i mean, it was like jesus made a new heaven and a new earth for ed and dave to getthrough a tour together, it was supposed to be 2010 for ed and dave to be “back”- but now it’s pushed out to 2012.
i’m sure there’s perfectly good reasons for the ’10-’12 delay, but it takes THEM an eterinity to get it done.

i love dave. truly do. but he isn’t mantaining a consistant back-up band like sam did with the wabo’s. sam had the same back up for the last 14 years (losing only jesse harms) and atthe SAME time tried (TRIED) a reunion with van halen and forming chickenfoot.

so, go ahead and smear him, assume he’s evil, assert every sinister motive, presume that he is every ugly element you want- go ahead.
    go right ahead.

but sam is out there, he’s walking the walk, and if ed thought for a SECOND it would help he’d call sam right the f*ck yesterday.

if sam is such a tool, why is it the drummer of a successful band just cut a record with him.
if sam is such a tool, why does joe satch give him the time of day?
if sam is so needy, so petty, then why did DLR lower himself to tour with him in’02?
if sam is the devil, why was he invited back in ’04?
if sam is such a d*ck why does mike anthony hang out so much? (mike doesn’t need $$ either)

    no.
the hate is merely jealous envy and disappointment.

spin it how you want, but only the petty hate a winner.

  • kayser sozay

Jor-L5150: Why did Dave lower himself to tour with Sam in 02? Are you kidding? Lower himself from where, rock bottom? Or was it complete obscurity? (That should twist some panties – lots of people on edge around here with all the positive CF reviews and post. Might as well have some fun with it.)

    DOA: Bingo. Nailed it.

Halen High: Very funny line. Personally I think Hagar did a great job on this album – as they all did – but kudos anyway.

  • Halen High

    No Mas Tony says:
“LOL @ Halen High. Hagar’s writing on (most of) this album is actually pretty good. BUT, that was a funny come back line none-the-less.”

Well thanks Tony. It’s only rock n’ roll and we need a laugh now and then.

I will listen to the complete album and will soon give it my objective review. Bet you guys can’t wait to read it.

Now regarding all these CF updates – do you guys think they are over-doing it? By the time its released there won’t be a shred of any mystery about it remaining. Don’t get me wrong, its good to see a band keep their fans informed, but there’s something special about buying an album and then gradually ‘discovering’ it.

  • DiamondDean

    OK ,

Why wld i have to like CF3 for?????? it sounds nothing like VAN HALEN at all, not at one stage through the whole album i went ” woooh that was amazing” , its not written anything like EVH , As i said it sounds more like old MR BIG without the edge that PAUL GILBERT brings to the band.

I loved TURNING LEFT n FUTURES IN THE PAST off the last album , both had a bit of a VH thing going on. I do enjoy UP NEXT n LIGHTEN UP on this one but thats pretty much . alright alright is terrible and a few others arent much better . I probably prefer Red voodoo then this??

The solos sound like there phoned in on this , this one sounds much more like a HAGAR solo album with satch solos then the last one .

Id much much much rather hear a kinda SATRIANI solo album with HAGAR n co , now that cld be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so this seems to get the worse parts of the combo.

If the new VAN HALEN album sounded like this , yikes id be the first person to be crtical of it ( look i dont know if it will be any better?)

Listen to CHEREONES saudes de rock , now thats an amazing album , have you listened to that? Dont listen to Roth’s DIAMOND DAVE cd now thats pretty terrible , so i can be objective maybe

I do enjoy a few of Satchs solos , but they all seem out of place to the song

Ozzy: “In Europe III was released on 23 sept. and i have listened to it every day! It´s a blast! A nine one a ten scale. Now…. Van Halen! And what a summer it wil be in 2012!!!”

I can relate to your rocking out on this, Ozzy, and hope you get to see both Van Halen and Chickenfoot next year in your part of the world! It’s very possible BOTH will be coming your way soon (ah, isn’t it nice to always have something sweet to look forward to?:))!

  • Shine On

I don’t think they’re overdoing their promotion at all, I think their doing an awesome job of getting their new album publicized. And I still found surprises come the time I listened to it all.

  • Shine On

Tim: “So all of that fanfare about Kenny Aranoff taking over temporarily on drums for 5 tour dates a couple of months away? I assumed they were going on a full tour immediately to promote the album if they were going to bother finding a new drummer.”

I’d be VERY surprised if they didn’t start making arrangements for a full tour shortly after completing their road-test, Tim.

  • Shine On

RayBan, hope you get to see that concert on November 5th and let us know how it turned out!

No Mas Tony, I’m with you on wishing that “Dubai Blues” will be the next single, for sure I want poeple to here Mike’s cool bass in the beginning—and a video for it would be nice, too.

  • Shine On

Frankenfoot: “I’ve never paid much attention to Satch until now. He does quite well in the “band” environment.”

He does indeed, Frankenfoot, and I think that was the one thing left that he felt he had to prove.

  • Shine On

bill1521: “He loved Ed’s drinking cause he could control him and make sure Dave music stayed out of the show.”

Now, THAT’S an..uh…interesting hypothesis there, bill. Except that it’s obvious Eddie doesn’t play as well when drunk & is harder to control, and Sammy did Dave music during the shows anyway.

  • Shine On

DiamondDean: “Listen to CHEREONES saudes de rock , now thats an amazing album , have you listened to that?”

Well, I wasn’t prepared to like it, but I grant you that it’s pretty good.

“No Mas Tony, I’m with you on wishing that “Dubai Blues” will be the next single”

I take that back! I want “Something Going Wrong” to be the next single. As I said on another thread, it would be a really gutsy move for the band, with or without a video.

  • Shine On

Halen High: “If only there were studio gimmicks that could help Sammy to write”

    There are, they’re called re-writes.
