VAN HALEN NEWS DESK ... Because Too Much Van Halen Is Never Enough.

Rumors…

There is a new, widespread rumor that specifically states the release date and song title of what would be the first single from Van Halen’s upcoming album. As with nearly all rumors like this, this rumor is completely FALSE. Stay tuned to VHND.com for news you can trust…

    @ Roth Leaps

I will buy one CD for home, one for work, and one for the truck!!
Sabah says…”Is it too much to ask?” No, but it is being asked too much! Everyday, Every minute, every post! Currently, VH does not have any news…get over it. When they are ready to release any news, they will. They do not owe us anything…we owe them for all the great memories! Just read some of the great experiences stated above!

  • Michael C.

jpage78….I would be more quick to agree with you if we were aking for “constant updates, bullshit tweets, etc…” The fact of the matter is, they posted direct information regarding multiple concerts on their website, and then one day abruptly took it down with little to no info. That’s just one example. I don’t think anyone in here has ever asked for “constant updates”, as you put it. How about just one or two a year? We’re all excited about the long awaited release from the mighty VH and are just hoping to get a little info regarding it. We’re all excited and choose to express our feelings in a variety of ways. This is a fan website. If you don’t like reading or interacting with all fans, then you are free to move along to one of the other websites. Rock on, guys.

  • jpage78

    @Michael C

Where did I say you aren’t free to express your opinion? I’m merely saying that demanding that the band say something after a BS rumor was debunked isn’t going to get you anywhere fast. The band simply doesn’t operate that way.

The festival adverts were pulled off the site once the concerts were cancelled. Pretty standard practice don’t you think?

  • VHOldtimer

    @Sparks:

What’s the point of your post? Nobody here is stopping other fans from saying what they want. Some fans want to criticize VH, and other fans (like me) feel like defending them against the criticism. Sounds like YOU don’t think we have the right to defend VH on this fan site. As for “common courtesy and respect” for fellow fans, I’m pretty sure you’re the first person on this topic to call other fans “know-it all bastids”.

  • “Lemon Scented Pledge” (bbl70)

The Van Halen mystique is alive and well on planet Earth. And “look at all the people here tonight YEAH!!!!”

  • pauleeroth

Of course the album and tour will come… eventually, but us Van Halen fans show undying loyalty without so much as a scrap off the band’s table. To quote the meglomatics called Kiss, “…the fans wanted us to play, we hear and we obey.” The Kissology dvd’s make this VH freak green with envy. How many of y’all would give your right hand for pro shot footage of CVH in full flight? My hundreds of bootleg dvd’s, vids, tapes, records and cd’s don’t come close…

  • Michael C.

@ jpage78…It does seem that I directed the majority of my ire direcrtly at you, and that wasn’t my intent. Your statement was just the last one I read, so I used your name.

I intended my little rant to be more directed to everyone who says that we are not allowed to ask for an update of any sort now and again. I think it is certainly within our rights, as longtime fans, to inquire as to when one of all of our favorite bands intends to release some new music. I personally do not type this everyday or week or month, for that matter. Every once in a while I get excited about the prospect of hearing something new from VH. That’s why I frequent this site. That’s why we ALL frequent this site, isn’t it? I see no harm or disrespect in asking for someone in their PR department to give us a little info. After all, PR does stand for public relations the last time I checked… I didn’t mean to take my fleeting frustration out on you. My apologies…

  • HACK

when this bitch comes out i’m gonna wait out in line at Best Buy over night. if i’m the only one there, that’s great. if it goes on sale at midnight or 10:00 am, that’s great. either way, it will remind me of skipping school and waiting over night for VH tickets back in the day. i’ve never been this jacked to buy a cd in my life. when they release it, i’ll be there. with my VH tatoo on my left arm, with my VH 1984 tatoo on my right above my right ankle, with my hand made gold VH necklace i bought last year, yeah; think i’ll wait over night for this cd.

  • swingin sinner

this shit makes me laugh they already have the album in the bag its now down to distribution this is the most anticipated album of the century its just about makin you wait and and them wanting to get their product out with the most beneficial end result for them. they know that people are waiting, hell ive been waiting since late ’84 a few months isnt gonna hurt!! Thats the best thing about VH is that they do it on their own terms!!! In the meantime just relax and jump back…. whats that sound?………..

  • Lc

This is what Happens when a band cares less about their fans. Are people still getting ready?????!!!!! How long have we been strung along ?

  • James

Patience VH faithful. I’m expecting big things later this year.

On another note, VH has got to have THE WORST public relations and promotions in the business since the internet age began. While this is a natural talent of DLR, it is obvious that the band has a muzzle on him.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the band to let out some information at this stage to prime the well. I mean the VH website gets updated once every 3 years and the last post from Ed was his cancer free announcement! It would not take too much to fix this situation!

In the meantime, I’m jamming out on the Obxa, cranking the Superlead, putting fresh batteries in the Phase 90 and changing tapes in the echoplexes just to be safe.

  • Brian

@Wilkster I go to the VH Links but I don’t post there.
I would get into cyber arguments a lot if I did.

    With fans like THOSE…..jeez.

    This site is much better.

  • Halen High

    Sammy Van Roth says:
“They’re keeping quiet cuz they’re afraid of Dave dousching things up like past reunion attempts. …and honestly, I don’t want to hear my guitar god threaten to kick another guy in the balls again. How embarrassing for him.”

That comment from Eddie as well as numerous other incidents surrounding his behaviour, should be enough for you to realise it wasn’t Dave who stuffed up any reunion attempts. You can lay the blame for that squarely at the feet of the brothers.

  • Tommy Boy

Panama Red…Roth Leaps, nice gentlemen. Very nice. Good to see intelligence survives. It really amazes me how much influence and affect this band and their music have had on a set of people.

  • Jason

Part of me hopes the album is called “2012″ because it would bookend “1984″ nicely, but then I realize they can come up with something better than that.

  • hawk51

Right Now!Edward has a shit eatin grin on his face…

  • jeff adams

Some day really soon we will be driv’in down the road and outta know where we will hear that legendary drum sound, and that first blistering riff, and that scary primal scream and there and then the world will be right again. It gives me chills just thinking about it. The One The Only VAN HALEN.

  • Wilkster5150

    @Brian
Yeah same here. I used to post over there defending Ed,Al, an Dave but there is a LARGE contingent of douchebags who seem to hate VH. Which begs the question: Why spend so much time on a Van Halen site if you hate em so much? Its not surprising the guys are so reclusive when “fans” like those are all over the internet. Sad.
This album and tour will be the bands redemption to all the naysayers.

  • hawk44

where do i live? i have 3 dudes too dinnner….george bush jr…brett favre…edward van halen!!!the longer the wait the better…it’s orgasmic!

  • http://vhnd.com VH4

It`s incredible how quick we are to turn on each other! Even arguing about how much the band does/doesn`t owe us. Go and listen to Fair Warning, hopefully you`ll all come back in a better mood! ;)

  • Ari

One of the sad things about the new album, regardless of how great it is (and I do think it will be great if it’s ever released by the way), is that it will never be as big as it could have been, say if it were released during the short-lived ’96 reunion for example. I guess that doesn’t really matter for us hardcore fans of the band, but the mainstream media will not play as much attention to it now as they would have in the past. The reasons are pretty obvious for the most part. The music industry in terms of album sales is largely a thing of the past. Everyone pretty much downloads these days, so album sales will be muted no matter what the album sounds like. More mainstream music is also almost always centered on younger acts too, so the press hype won’t be out in full force anymore like it would have been. Finally, I think the band’s overall popularity will be hurt by the seemingly eternal lack of contact with their fan base. A great deal of momentum has been lost, and regardless of how sharp the music turns out, you can bet many critics will point to the age of the band, and say they are past their prime and that it doesn’t measure up to the classics. That’s a shame. No, Van Halen doesn’t owe us anything as some like to point out, but it’s simply not good PR to leave your fans hanging forever and a day. Why would you want to torture the people who collectively are still responsible for your livelihood when all is said and done? You would think they’d have genuine affection for their fans and not want to treat them like the enemy, as it sometimes seems quite frankly.

In any event, like most of us, I’m still excited as heck about the new album and tour. It still could be plenty big, just not as big as what might have been years ago. I just wish this endless game would finally be over already. Come on guys, give us a break.

  • Sean

Id say the boys best release the hounds soon before they devour each other…..

  • angryman

I like the fact that the band is ‘doing’ and not just talking. They’re respecting the fans just by making another album. And their publicity team knows enough about the workings of the internet to know how information gets around. I personally am loving the fact that they’re not tweeting the shit out of their working process. Frankly, makes me respect them a whole lot more.

  • http://www.ievolvedintothis.com Ken A

Recorded music is free now. Van Halen’s new album will be free, too. We are no longer living in a time in which pure information can be monopolized.

I will pay for the new album not because music costs money, but because I believe the band is at a fairly monumental point in its history and they deserve a show of support for their efforts at making this thing work. As I’ve said before, they don’t have to do this, and a lot of negative innuendo from the fanbase has given them more than a few moments’ pause. But I want them to do it, and I want them to know that I want them to do it. Paying for the CD is no longer a transaction determined by market equilibrium, so much as a gesture of faith from the fans to the musicians.

  • Joe

If the album is ready then what the heck are they waiting for? It has been over 12 years since the last one. Nothing is served by waiting any longer.

  • Towers McQuestion

    Adam says:

Drew, Van Halen is NOT stringing along their fans at all, because they have deliberately not said or promised ANYTHING about a new album or tour.

    ****************

This is entirely true, sadly. Van Halen hasn’t said anything about anything. Fans are getting desperate and making their own rumors. I read a lot on this site, posters saying “It’s coming soon.” When it may in fact never come at all. Nothing has been announced. Eddie could be making this music for his own benefit to listen to in his car when driving in L.A. for all we know. I’ve done that. Recorded music I have in my head specifically for myself to listen to in the car. Why can’t Ed?

They know (or their people know) that the rumors are flying. If there is nothing to report, they should most definitely say so. To not do that is to abuse their loving fans who wait with baited breath for any scrap of official news IMHO.

Some say VH is playing this perfectly in their old school manner: saying nothing and letting rumors build, but I would counter that if they updated their website with a 20 second clip of a new song and some pics of them in the studio (that’s it, no need for an up to the minute Chickenfoot style webisode), the buzz would be far more widespread. Fans new and old would be flocking to their site, to google to search for them and to this site. Whoever quoted Ted Knight (Baxter) and said “You’ll get nothing and you’ll like it!” definitely encapsulates the Van Halen credo.

By now, assuming they are recording music for public consumption, they must have SOMETHING they can share. Fans are getting pissed. There is such a thing as customer good will and it means something.

The more time that passes, the more discouraged I get. First, the rumors said it would happen this summer, probably early August. Now the rumors say fall. I’ve even read a post on this thread about how a poster is confident it will happen before the end of the year. We just keep moving the dates back, don’t we? I assume if they don’t release anything by Christmas we’ll say they’re waiting for 2012?

I’ll buy it if it comes out. I’ll attend the tour, but the band has damaged their relationship with me as a fan, and I won’t buy extra merchandise if this continues. They just cost themselves money. Might be time to put up or shut up (hey, that’d be a cool album title).

I am not hopeful, but I remain vigilant.

  • Towers McQuestion

Oh, and I forgot to mention… someone asked who will actually buy the CD rather than download it. I download a lot of music, but I will buy at least two copies of VH’s record if it comes out to support the music, as I did for Chickenfoot.

  • DABSr

    Everybody … chill.

If any of you were super rich and had nothing to do, day in and day out but make music, party and live (relatively) stress free, then drama would take place with you too. It’s “Dave’s fault”, “Ed’s fault”, “the brothers Van Halen’s faults” .. only 4 people know the complete truth .. so put your fingers away.

As for the waiting .. it could be much worse, we could have been heavy-duty Boston fans in the mid 80′s who waited 8 years between their 3rd and 4th albums. Booooooo

So have patience little ones .. the return is near.

  • Carnal Knowledge

    Still ready…..

  • Sparks in ’11

@ Wilkster- Hey!! Ya found one!! You get a prize!! It comes out Tuesday!! Or not!!

@Oldtimer- My Know it all Bastids remark was more or less a silly zinger. You know what I mean. People are in here laying down their law about how people are supposed to feel or react. I mean no ill will towards anyone, but I think too often, people are trying too hard to correct other people nonsense. It really should be fun to post here, instead is just an ongoing drag of arguments. I’ll admit, I’m guilty from time to time, but damn, only VH can set things straight now. No, they don’t OWE us that, but still…

    Have good weekends everyone.

    Good for you…blah blah blah…
Have fun with your Mike/Sammy lovefest over at the links.
If that’s what yer into, cheers fellow VH bro!

  • GROWAPAIR

I personally think saying nothing is brilliant and refreshing on VH’S part.Sick of hearing from bands that no one cares about go on and on about their new nerd rock album coming out 6 years before it actually happens.VH don’t owe us shit folks and the people trying to pressure Eddie and the boys into releasing something quickly should have learned about 10 years ago that that doesn’t work. You’ll be driving in your car when suddenly the new VH will pop on the radio. That’s the way they want it and that’s what you’ll get.Don’t worry every one will buy the album no matter how much they say they won’t.

  • Jor-L5150

i wasn’t saying they “are trying to mislead us”-

i was saying that if they want to retire- fine.
we aren’t “owed” anything as to van halen being “obligated” to do another record, or tour.

BUT- IF they say they’re “…coming back…after this and that..”

then they should expect to have fans wondering whats going on!

of course- once they do announce a record we all be obediant sheep.

  • Wilkster5150

@Sparks in ’11I reserve my enthusiasm for the real forces behind Van Halen, past and present, Ed an Al an Dave.

  • Halen High

    Wilkster5150 says:
“@Brian Yeah same here. I used to post over there defending Ed,Al, an Dave but there is a LARGE contingent of douchebags who seem to hate VH.”

I’ve never signed up over there – it’s like a website dedicated to hating CVH and/or the band’s original frontman – strange. But I do check in now and then to see if there is any breaking news and I respect the efforts of the people who run the site for fans. In reality, there are only a few (15-20) Classic Van Halen ‘haters’ that dominate the site. They can’t accept that ALL VH fans don’t love the Van Hagar era. But when the 2007/08 tour was on, I noticed the site was flooded with CVH fans having a great time with the tour reviews, discussions etc.

  • Wilkster5150

    @Halen High
Yeah I’ve been checkin in over there for years and the intolerance of Dave AND Wolf is pretty rampant. That’s why the VHND is so great. People here can disagree but still be civil. As I’ve stated before, I love every VH album but nothing compares to the six pack. I’m also very intrigued with what Wolf is gonna do on a record and am grateful that he was the catalyst in bringing Dave back into the fold. VH Links is full of Haters and I believe their Gospel is Sammy’s book.

  • Lupercal

    @ Wilkster

VH Links is a place where fans of *gasp!* both Sammy and Dave get together and shoot the shit. Is it really that hard to understand? The Roth Army is a great website if you hate Sammy Hagar, but they too have enough bad stuff to say about Dave, Ed, Al, anyone that has been remotely involved in VH. One poster I remember saying that Skyscraper was “synth filled shitfest”. Time and no music from this band does weird stuff to people – think Jack Nicholson in The Shining.

Its a great diverse place that has loads of fans of the band. If they weren’t fans of the band, they simply wouldn’t take the time to post there, and trust me, some of those guys have been there for years and years. Their Gospel isn’t Sammy’s book – people have torn that thing to shreds. VHND doesn’t usually post every tiny interview that Sam gives, but because VH Links is a forum, users post everything Sam says that gets printed in the media. And, well you guessed it, he contradicts himself and usually the comments afterwards go something like “Sam needs to STFU”. Which I agree with a lot of the time, there’s one thing having a voice but to say “I miss Van Halen” and in the very same interview say “but fuck those guys for what they did to me and Mike” just reads bad.

It is a place that seems pretty level headed and they would NOT for a second put up with people like Roth_Leaps just because he says opinions as facts. Its quite a nice little community over there, you should come over, try it sometime.

  • Wilkster5150

    @Lupercal
As I stated before, I’m on the Links all the time, atleast a little bit every day, and to say that what goes on in the VH Main Discussion Forums is “level headed” is pretty funny. It’s a nice community if you think Ed an Al are dicks and that VH cant possibly, and shouldnt, go on without Mike. You even have some morons who put Chickenfoot as their “favorite” VH album and then do nothing but constantly trash VH in their posts.
Anyone who likes the classic era best or who is willing to give Wolf a chance is immediately attacked over there. I like all eras of VH, but like CVH the best, and that is why I’ll take VH with Wolf over no VH at all. People over there who have NO intention of giving him even a tiny chance have already ruined the new album for themselves because of the self centered and shortsighted bias.
If they think VH cant possibly VH w/o Mike than why do they think VH was VH w/o Dave. Total hypocrites over at the Links dude. And it IS a Mike/Sammy/Chickenshit lovefest over there.

  • R Thomas

Aren’t the members of the current VH so underground with their music & personal news? In the past 30 years what have we VH fans really heard about them? DLR’s misdemeanor pot bust in NYC; EVH’s hip surgery, divorce, & 2nd marriage; the boot of Sammy & Michael out of the band. There has been so very little news about their music & personal lives that it leaves me wondering why I still care about what may be to come other than a hope that VH/DLR v 2.0 willreturn the band to the sound that made them the “mighty VH”. IMHO VH needs a marketing makeover and EVH has to get over his OCD regarding a release of new VH material.

  • Tim

“As with nearly all rumors like this, this rumor is completely FALSE.”

    Key word: nearly.

Now and then a rumor about the band turns out to be true, and fans nearly always get it in rumor form long before any official announcement from the band. If VH wants to cut down on the rumors, they need to do a better job of keeping fans informed themselves.

  • jesper

Rumors, rumors, rumors…… How could vhnd.com always know its rumors. How do you know that the first song not called like that so fast? Where do you get all the clothes, shoes and stuff so quickley? How did it comes that you know that it wasn´t VH who cancelled the shows? hmmm Is it VH.brothers who is behind this site and sitting and laughing at us fans……..? IF not, you do a hell of a good job:)

  • Switters

I’m looking forward to the new album as much as anybody, but one disturbing thought worries me: We’re expecting the OLD Van Halen sound, with Roth’s awesome howling screams. But that guy is gone. Have you heard his recent solo stuff? His voice is shot – aside from the low growl, he can’t do the screams anymore – so I’m afraid we might be disappointed in that regard, but we’ll see!

  • TKelly5150

i am going out for the day and when i come home im hoping for a new single and also
Regarding the buy the cd vs free download i have a plan im going to buy the Cd then never open it so it will hold its value if it turns out to be the last they ever make then i will download it to put on my ipod

  • Chris Genco

I think all the hush hush started back when they made the first album. I believe Ed let another band here the final cut tape. And I am not sure which song it was exactly, obviously one of the covers, but this band went and put out the same single before they got too. And I think Ed learned his lesson there with that. Not to say that this new material will have any covers on it, I really hope not though.

  • 3hater

I thought the new VH was here, false alarm…only an earth quake.

  • Hillbilly Jim

    @ Sabah says:

“So if Eddie likes to charge his fans $25,000 for one of his limited reproductions of Frankenstein, then I think we (as fans) have a right to ask Eddie, “When is this new album coming out?”

“Fans who pay good money during a very bad economy do have a right to ask Van Halen when the new album is coming out. And after 13 years of nothing, I think they do owe us at least one thing. The date of the release of the album.”

First of all, those guitars are aimed more at the type of people who can afford it. Meaning, 25K is not alot for them to buy a guitar. Im sure Ed doenst expect the average Joe Public Fan to spend that kind of cash.
And if you are one of those guys who has to have that guitar, and go way beyond your means to purchase it, well, then you’re an idiot, and Ed definitely doesn’t owe you anything because you’re an IDIOT!

And why should fans who pay good money during a very bad economy have a right to ask Van Halen when the new album is coming out? Why?
Just because you pay good money? It gives you what you paid for.
And is 12 dollars for a CD really a lot of money?
If $150 plus for concert tix is too much, then don’t go.

Sabah, (and everyone who thinks like you do) unless you’re a 16 yr old kid, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Actually 16 yr old kids should know better.

  • VHOldtimer

    @Chris Genco:

I don’t know if that’s right, but it would make sense. As I recall, the band was the Angels, and they tried to rush their own version of You’ve Really Got Me out before VH could release it.

  • joe bordon

tick, tick, tick, the van halen train is coming.
