Michael Anthony talked to MusicRadar.com about basses, amps, and background vocals on Chickenfoot’s upcoming album.  Anthony said that his vocals are featured more prominently on the new disc than on Chickenfoot’s debut. “For some reason, my voice doesn’t age,” he says. “I can still hit those high harmonies just like I did back in the day.” Laughing, he adds, “My wife likes to say I act like a kid, so maybe that’s why I sing like one!”

On a serious note, Anthony does cite one major factor for contributing to his increased vocal power: he gave up smoking. “I was never a real smoker,” he stresses. “I don’t think I’ve ever smoked an entire cigarette from start to finish. But for years and years, if I was out with people, having cocktails or dinner or whatever, and if somebody was smoking, I’d take a few drags off their cigarette. It was stupid, but that’s what I did.

“Recently, though, I said to myself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ So I just stopped messing around with cigarettes, just cut ‘em out entirely. For one thing, I want to live a long life and try to grow old gracefully, so that’s a good reason to quit. But I found that my singing improved dramatically. I’ve always been a natural singer on stage and in the studio – never had a vocal lesson in my life. But by trying to take better care of my voice, I can really feel and hear the difference.     What’s with the ‘nazi’ stuff LOL?

    No-one hates Sammy. It’s just that most Van Halen fans didn’t like him when he was fronting our band.

    They got back together in 2007. Now we are no longer deprived, although, of course, we miss Mike.

    That is true – both in this instance or for any other artist. I wouldn’t be referencing Amazon as evidence for an album’s merits.

    But the majority of people are fans of those artists and most of their ratings are at the higher end – from what I’ve seen anyway.

    Wow you are getting hit pretty hard. I respect your opinion and was thinking it was cool to see your posts again. I know you are a passionate CVH fan. Your historic knowledge is far beyond mine…I’m just a typical guitar playing fan. So I have a serious question that I honestly do not have an answer to. We have had Dave, Valerie, and Sammy say pretty much the same things concerning EVH. Yet SH gets the the lion’s share of anger and hatred here. Have you even read about other musicians and people in the music industry banging on SH or saying how he’s a phoney, attention craving jerk, ot that he is not what he appears to be?

    Let me be the first to apologize if my rants directly offend anyone. I get carried away. My passion for music, and more directly for the mighty VH as well as Chickenfoot, run deep. I read some of my own posts and shake my head sometimes. We all love good music in here. Otherwise we wouldn’t be here. Let’s stop all of this nonsense, starting with me, and just look forward to new tunes coming soon! Rock on, guys!

    I love Vh period whoever sings i’m in!

    one question though who would you rather be stuck in an elevator with Sam or Dave? love em both but I think after awhile dave would try to dry hump my leg and Sammy would try to make a waborita. I also Love CF been a fan of RHCP and Satch for years Great band very tight and fun live!

    Just enjoy the fact that two great bands are about to bless us with music in the near future!

    No need to apologise – we all get carried away at times – the debates are lively and mostly good fun. And some of the posts here are hilarious! But some of the language does get a little extreme. In recent days, I’ve been decribed as a ‘nazi’, ‘fascist’ and a ‘lunatic’ because I don’t like Sammy Hagar’s music! Even then, I don’t take offense.
    I still see the funny side of it.

    Where did the long version of the teaser for Bigfoot go?? Holy crap, Chickenfoot III and a new cd from the mighty VH in the same year? Thank goodness, we need something to wake up the music scene. Tired of all the b/s on the radio. Long live VH and the Foot!!

    Luckily I listened to the newer longer teaser about a dozen times before it was removed. I wonder why it’s no longer available though? It sounded cool as shit, I can’t f-ing wait to get the new ‘Foot album. I will be rotating between the new Chickenfoot album and the new Van Halen album and I’m sure I’m going to drive anyone around me crazy for the first few days each album comes out.

    Maybe Chickenfoot can open up for Van Halen? I forgot that’s not gonna happen Sammy not an opening act oops I mean chicken foot. The song is same calibur as the first album. Joe needs to start wailing on his guitar, not plays this bland way. I heard him play with Steve Via and he wailed. I hope this new album was better then the 1st cause they are off to a bad start.
