EVH® Introduces Wolfgang® USA Custom and Stealth Guitars

EVH introduces two new Wolfgang guitar models, the Wolfgang USA Custom and the Wolfgang Stealth. Both are distinctive variations on the hugely successful original model, the U.S.-made EVH Wolfgang guitar designed by Eddie Van Halen.

Perhaps the most uniquely elegant instrument in the Wolfgang series, the Wolfgang USA Custom represents Eddie Van Halen’s personal tribute to the short-scale set-neck guitars of the late 1950s, combined with the distinctive modern personal touches he prefers on his own guitars. These two elements culminate in a truly magnificent tone machine embodying the best of yesterday and today.

The guitar’s mahogany body has a ½” arched maple top and seven-ply binding, a bound mahogany set neck with dual graphite reinforcement rods, and a 24.75″ scale length. Features include a compound radius (12″-16″) ebony or rosewood fingerboard, 22 vintage stainless steel frets, seven-ply headstock and body binding, mother-of-pearl headstock logo inlay on ebony, dual EVH Wolfgang Custom nickel-covered humbucking pickups with three-position switching, stop-tail bridge with fine tuners, EVH custom tuners, dual EVH custom low-friction 500k volume pots, dual EVH custom high-friction 250k tone pots and an EVH molded-stripe case by SKB®. Available in Black, White and Vintage Cherry Burst.

In designing an especially sleek all-black addition to the Wolfgang series, Eddie Van Halen decided to try something he previously wasn’t known to prefer-an ebony fingerboard. He liked it so much that the resulting guitar-the Wolfgang Stealth-now resides at the very forefront of his arsenal.

Features include an arch-top basswood body, quartersawn maple neck with dual graphite reinforcement rods, compound radius (12″-16″) ebony fingerboard with 22 vintage stainless steel frets, dual hard-mounted EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickups with three-position switching, dual Bourns® low- (volume) and high-friction (tone) potentiometers, EVH-branded Floyd Rose® locking tremolo with EVH D-Tuna®, black hardware, EVH-branded 14-1 Gotoh® chrome tuners with pearloid buttons, Schaller® chrome string retainer and EVH molded-stripe case by SKB®. Available in Stealth Black.

Very cool. Hope they introduce more color options on the standard model.

Great Guitars, really don’t know which to choose…when will the striped EVH follow ?

  • Sparks on the Horizon!!

Do we have any “set neck enthusiasts” in tha hoouuuusse!? Dang these things look sweet. Still not sure about the headstock, but I’m sure it’ll grow on me.

“Set neck traditionalists”, and fans of the “short-scale” guitars of the late 1950s, whatever can they mean? I must confess that the Custom doesn`t appeal to me; I`m not a fan of hard tails or trapezoid inlays and to be honest have always loved maple fingerboards (that`s what happens when you grow up with pictures of Ed and his Frankie on the wall)!
The headstock just looks weird with the ebony neck. Having said that, I`d make room on the wall for a Stealth! I can imagine the death metal community getting Eddie a new wing for his mansion with this bad boy.

The stealth looks awesome!!!! Selling guitars is good, but give an album to the fans is better!

  • evhua

    awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lupercal

The Stealth is a true thing of beauty – I always thought it was cool that Eddie changed the colour palette of his guitars so much – the stripes, the quilted/flamed tops, and the more “block” colours of the EVH Wolfgangs. I like the Les Paul homage in the USA Custom. Kind of remind me of the fixed bridge Wolfgang Eddie used to play “Josephina” with Gary on that Japanese TV show. If I had a serious amount of money to spend it would definitely go on the Stealth.

  • dudensht

Cant wait to play one, but what I really want to buy is the 50 watt. When are they gonna be released?

  • gwen

I just can’t help but miss the guitars Eddie used to play before the Music man era…The music man appeared on the F.U.C.K album and his tone changed too. A lot of his solos were played with the neck pickup and he never went back to the 1984 tone…To me he changed as a player too being pretty much a blues scale kind of player which he wasn’t before. He had the blues element going but was a lot more creative. Even 0U812 had the magic touch and in my opinion he lost it after that. I don’t know why, it’s really strange, maybe he just evolved but I just don’t hear the magic of the 1984 guitar riffs and solos to name just one album. Too much gain ruined it I think…

  • dirtyfacedkidinagarbagecan

    very nice.

  • wooten

Looks great. I prefer the birdseye maple necks, though. Great guitar.

  • ShyBoy

They look sweeeeet!!!! I’m not sure about the headstock either but still looks good!!!

    “short-scale set-neck guitars of the late 1950s”

Fender would never admit they built a Les Paul.

  • evh51503

The set necks are sweet!!! can you say 3600.00 Lot of cash!!! The stealth is bad azzzzzz! alittle bit less!! lets just get that 50watt head out already!!!! cant wait…

  • Brian

When is the 50 watt 5150 head due out?

  • Henkiehengst

I’m waiting for a striped version. Best of both worlds!

  • pholange

beautiful! i am sure we will pony up some dough… they are amazing, the stealth…

    how about some new music?

    gracias.

  • Sparks on the Horizon!!

Gwen said- “I just can’t help but miss the guitars Eddie used to play before the Music man era…”

I have to say, my favorite tone of his was with the single pick up Kramer from the 1984 tour. How he got such a creamy brown tone outta that thing I’ll never know. His blues solo section from various boots of that tour still give me chills. Still, as he ventures forth, I’m digging the new sound more and more. Things definitely did get too muddy sound wise in the early and mid 90′s though.

    @VH4 – That’s right, “traditionalists”. I F’d that up before.

  • JLR

i don’t know what this means but when i filled up with gas today the total was $51.50!! must mean the new album will be out soon!!

  • Me wants ONE

Those look awesome I bet the action is great, ME WANTS ONE TOO !

  • Myron T. Philpot

The Stealth is cool in a gothic sorta way. I can appreciate the ebony fretboard as something different.

But the Custom is nothing more than a butchered Les Paul. And for 3600 bucks?! Has anyone ever dropped a pricey guitar before? My friend was completely distraught and almost unconsolable when his brand-new LP Standard took a dinger on the floor. Sheesh, seems like my OLPs are hittin’ the ground runnin’ at least once a week. ;)

  • gstring

@ JLR — just means gas prices are too high.

  • MICAL VEE

    BAD MO FO’S!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Michael C.

Those are nice guitars, but I’m a lot more interested in watching him play a guitar. Not build or promote one. Just saying ….

  • Wattson

Agree with Michael C, Remember when Eddie was so proud for his frankenstrat and the price of $130 bucks for body and neck? That was his tone the elements of “pawnshop”

  • ben

can’t wait to see Eddie playing the Stealth LIVE!

  • Ari

Agreed. Nice, but pick one up yourself, Eddie, come on, man.

  • freddiegirl

Hmm…gorgeous guitar. But…for the price I’ll stick with my Jackson. Eddie makes fabulous instruments but my personal fav of his will always be his original black and white Frankie.

  • ringostore

    Gotta get it!

  • THE ATOMICPUNK

Freddiegirl..agreed nothing eddie does or plays sounds as good as he did back in the early days with that black & white shredder!for me that was his best guitar sound and tone, nothing like it man!that guitar was sick man just sick!!!

  • dudensht

This company needs to continue to work with Ed in regards to the varyiety of items they offer. Who in the world wouldnt truely injoy the sht out of that Classic!? This companies amps geninually sound different. As long as Ed controls quality, the stuff works right! I hope he offers a single hum/floyd strat (EVH Art) for less money.
I think if they follow Ed, EVH could absorb the “Traditional” marketplace that Gibson and Marshall has dominated for decades. I’ve been fortunate enough be to of age to have watched the evolution in equiptment. EVH is producing some of the best stuff in the different price ranges. The products ooze quality! I would love to see a Wolfgang with comfort contures and float the trem!

  • karloff

    nice looking guitars.

  • dudensht

Now that they built the Stealth for the Black Metal lovers it would be cool to see a “Brown” model. Rosewood, Dark rown burst, chrome hardware… Sold!

  • alexandre

I really enjoy the way the Ernie Ball Music Man by Eddie sounded, especially live, as on Balance tour. And i would like to know from you, guys that always write here, if the appearence of this guitar on MJ’s “Black or White” video was some kind of payment for Eddie’s work on “Beat it”…

  • Lupercal

alexandre – I always wanted to make some sort of connection, but haven’t really been able to. But it was 1991, it was probably a very popular guitar…played by Macaulay Culkin.

  • Roger Rackit

    Stealth Rules!!!!

  • papichulo

Can’t afford the new stuff. Can’t wait til I can. Instead I put the new evh pickups in my Peavey Wolf. The Les Paul and American Strat I haven’t touched.

  • Tom

His EVH gear is like new VH music…you cant find it anywhere.Seems that if you want to buy an amp or guitar you have to order it online, unseen which is bullshit.i want to play the guitar first and make sure the grain and everything is to my liking, not chosen by some schmuck in a Guitar Center warehouse or any other online site where they toss it in a box and mail it.

  • alexandre

    Lupercal, thanks for answering!

  • Michael B

I haven’t played the new EVH models at all, but I’m sure they are great. I greatly prefer the Music Man models over the Peavey ones though. Love the body shape, love the necks, love the sounds…the OLP versions were phenomenal as well. Never warmed up to the peavey’s and these look almost identical. A bit spendy for my budget anyway.

  • Patrick

His tone changed because on the F.U.C.K. album, Ed used a Soldano SLO100 on the majority of the songs and begin using the earliest incarnates of his original Peavey 5150. Also, the Music Man had DiMarzio humbuckers, everything else before that has Seymour Duncans.

  • dudensht

Well said… totally agree. Way too much distortion and midrange these days. His new head will get the old sound, its genuinly an “EQ” issue. With his Swamp Ash guitar he sounds real close. He sounds like hes in the “high gain comfort zone.” Time to get the old guitar and the old amp out and force the sound out of the equiptment. Its forced out of the fingers, against the finger board. Eflat AND LETS HERE THE BIG BOOMY CAB SOUND AND NOT SO MUCH PREAMP SIGNAL.

  • atmkpnk

savin’ my 50 and 51 cent pieces to by my stealth…all i really need is to the original atomic punk playin it!!

    we need you edward!!!
