"As a side note, I’ve always longed for a 2-hour “Behind the Music” special on Van Halen, or something similar on the Biography Channel"

'Probably won't happen. Eddie has everyone clamped shut.
Roth didn't say a word to the press on the last tour.
I guess Eddie learned not to air his laundry out in public after the Roth/Sammy feuds. Biography would have to do the cheesy version like they do with other bands, they can't play the original music and they would interview people "close to the band". It would be a dissappointment to all true VH fans.

The famed parachute gig was actually on Sept. 23, 1978, at Anaheim Stadium (nearly five years before the US Festival). It is true that stunt doubles parachuted out of a plane, and looked to be headed for the stage before changing course and landing behind the backstage area (out of view of the fans). Van Halen then ran onstage in duplicate parachute outfits as if it had been the jumpers.

Boston was the headliner, Black Sabbath just below them and then Van Halen. And who preceeded Van Halen? None other than Sammy Hagar. Eddie met Sammy for the first time earlier in the day.

There was a story on all this in Issue 14 of the Inside magazine.
