Ha ha, so funny to see Ozzy has his own subtitles!!! He`s talking English guys! And yep, Ed looks great, nice to hear him just talking normally about whatever without having to worry about what everyone will read into it.

Ed looks and sounds great!! If Ed ever does the solo thing with different singers, I would love to see ED, Alex and Ozzy write a song together!! Could you imagine???

It’s a little sad to think Van Halen ended the career of the Sabs, but heavy metal had become too stale and depressing by the late 70′s. Thankfully, the party-loving dudes from Pasadena stormed onto the scene and brought the fun back into rock ‘n roll when it was about to die at the hands of punk and disco.
Still, it would’ve been awesome to be backstage on that 1978 tour. Can you imagine a wild man like Ozzy teaching a young Dave and Eddie how to act like hedonistic rock gods on the road? The amount of booze and drugs and pussy on that tour had to be insane.
As a side note, I’ve always longed for a 2-hour “Behind the Music” special on Van Halen, or something similar on the Biography Channel. A really interesting documentary with all parties involved just airing out the truth as it happened. Probably wont ever happen because of the bad blood with Hagar and Mike but I’d love to hear Dave and Eddie talk about those early years from their unique viewpoints.

Great show!!

I did watch the Sabbath bio and it was a great show, aside from Ed’s commentary. Would Have really neat to hear some more from Ed on how that tour in ’78 was so wild and more funny Ozzy stories and I’ll bet he’s got quite a few.

Screw Sabbath, where’s the =VH= documentary??
July 28th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Off Topic But:
You know who does a great job of releasing their archeived material?…….AC/DC. Why wouldn’t the task master (Ed) allow for any filming of VH gigs ….shit they would have had video footage to trump Motley, Leppard and GNR and think about the girls. Oh, baby.
July 28th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
We all know when it comes to marketing,”EVERYBODY” in the vh camp is clueless.Since Ed has a heartfull of hatred toward Mike and the fans alike, archives will never be released.

I believe that when VH opened for BS in ’79 in Anaheim, they parachuted onto the stage.
Now how could BS ever hope to top that??
July 29th, 2010 at 8:22 am
Arthur, that was the US Fest in the early 80′s. And they actually used stunt doubles to parachute in and then the actual band ran onto stage in the same clothes so everyone thought it was them. It was a great DAVE idea. Needless to say it was still very cool.
July 29th, 2010 at 8:47 am
I heard the ’79 Anaheim parachute jump was just a PR hoax — actual skydivers did the jump and then the band came out in jumpsuits to fool the crowd?
Then again, Eddie is seen wearing those silly pink parachute pants in the “Live Without A Net” video so maybe Van Halen does know how to skydive after all. Dave climbs 2000-ft. sheer cliffs for fun so I know he’s up for the adrenaline rush. Somehow, I cant see wimps like Mikey and Alex jumping out of an airplane!
July 29th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
The famed parachute gig was actually on Sept. 23, 1978, at Anaheim Stadium (nearly five years before the US Festival). It is true that stunt doubles parachuted out of a plane, and looked to be headed for the stage before changing course and landing behind the backstage area (out of view of the fans). Van Halen then ran onstage in duplicate parachute outfits as if it had been the jumpers.
Boston was the headliner, Black Sabbath just below them and then Van Halen. And who preceeded Van Halen? None other than Sammy Hagar. Eddie met Sammy for the first time earlier in the day.
There was a story on all this in Issue 14 of the Inside magazine.

With that interview with Ed, it makes me wonder IF Biography Channel is ACTUALLY doing a bio on =VH=…

“As a side note, I’ve always longed for a 2-hour “Behind the Music” special on Van Halen, or something similar on the Biography Channel”
‘Probably won’t happen. Eddie has everyone clamped shut.
Roth didn’t say a word to the press on the last tour.
I guess Eddie learned not to air his laundry out in public after the Roth/Sammy feuds. Biography would have to do the cheesy version like they do with other bands, they can’t play the original music and they would interview people “close to the band”. It would be a dissappointment to all true VH fans.
