It Books, HarperCollins, to release in 2011

HarperCollins imprint ItBooks will release Sammy Hagar’sautobiography in 2011. Hagar will provide readers with those behind-the-scenes stories from his multi-platinum career, things that you always wanted to know, but had no way of knowing, until now, including his rise as a solo artist and his eleven years with Van Halen, after the controversial departure of original lead vocalist David Lee Roth. During Hagar’s time with Van Halen, the band released four consecutive No. 1 albums. From worldwide stadium concerts tours to private jets, Hagar enjoyed the trappings of fame and success with Van Halen until he was, as he puts it, “unceremoniously fired.” Hagar later thrived as a solo act, leading his band, the Cabo Wabos, before returning triumphantly to Van Halen for an historic reunion tour after which he set off on his own once again. So if you want to know any and every thing about the Hag, this book will expose it all.

“I’ve been writing this book my whole life,” said Hagar in a statement. “It’s time to put it between two covers.”

I just saw Sammy tonight at the Taste of Minnesota in St. Paul. OMG he effing rocked! He even put himself in the crowd to interact with fans. He is a class act!

  • phillster

Not to steal redrockinwierdo`s thunder but,
Honestly, doesn`t it seem like Sammy`s taking the same page out of ROTH`S playbook??
And doing it in half the time?(Thanks to snagging M.A.)It just Smacks of”Cashing In”to me.
The ONLY reason any of us here would buy sam`s book
is because he was IN =VH=,PERIOD.
If Sam`s book came out Wthout him being an X-lead singer of the mighty VH, would you really care about his story as much as say TED NUGENT,STYX,Journey?
    I Think NOT.
    Bottom LINE:
    =VH= RE-BOOTED Sammy`s career.
But DAVE Started it and left Spammy a GOLDMINE
    Lucky Him.

  • D.O.A.

No question I would buy it. Been interested in Sam since Montrose. Undoubtedly, him being in VH makes it an even more interesting read.

It’s doubtful I’m alone on this, Phillster. He’s got legions of fans, like it or not.

You’re in the camp that doesn’t care for him and that’s alright. However, there’s also a camp that does. That’s ok too.

As far as re-booting his career: that’s really not even debatable. He was just coming off his most successful album ever, after having an already solid run of many, many years. The fact he was so established was of paramount importance to EVH, and the main reason he was offered the job. Joining VH unquestionably elevated him to another level.

The “re-boot” was for DLR when the reunion came around. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Dave leading the way for the next VH project, but where would he be if that didn’t happen?

  • phillster

    Sorry D.O.A.
    Me&RedRockin`Wierdo must`ve taken the same bad sh?t.lol
    Maybe we`re ALL right.I mean,where would Robert Plant be if he wasn`t in Zeppelin anymore-forget I asked.lol
Even Gary Cherone got more famous by being in =VH=.
    When`s His book coming out?lol

  • Herb

WTF? Trying to make sense of that…and it just can’t be done. Geezus.

  • Teamfubar

Um, to the people on here that don’t think Sammy is a legit “artist”, you know he did have a solo career BEFORE Van Halen as well as a lead singer of Montrose. AND, VH did OPEN for Montrose a time or two back in the ’70′s, but, nah, he isn’t a real artist. And after VH, what did DLR do? Oh yeah, he was an EMT just a couple years ago. Yep, riding that VH gravy train.

You know I was just listening to a playlist I made with both DLR and Sam songs in it. And guess what? It’s all Van Halen. I don’t care who the front man is as long as they make some music soon (well, maybe not Gary Cherone, but if he tried to be himself it would be OK).

I certainly hope it’s better than Dave’s last biography (the book was given to me). I skipped alot of pages, but when I got to the part where he wanted to create a stage with statue’s of devil’s pissing onto the fan’s I threw it into the bin. Daves way of life has aged him terribly as he’s starting to look like Larry King.

On a light note, the best book ever written on the ups and downs of a rock band was made by David Blayney, roadie, “general overall galley slave,” formerly of ZZTOP.
The book is good enough to read once or twice every year, it’s just that funny.
