VAN HALEN NEWS DESK

That Metal Show wants new Van Halen music

VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show” is a roundtable talk show celebrating all things hard rock and heavy metal and hosted by Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine (“Crank Yankers”, “Inside the NFL”, “Meet The Creeps”), and Don Jamieson (“Inside The NFL”, “Dice Undisputed”, “Meet The Creeps”).

On last week’s show (Season 5, Episode 2 with guest Zakk Wylde) Eddie Trunk started the show off by talking about Van Halen. “It’s time for VH to do something.” It seems that all three hosts, along with their entire studio audience of metal maniacs, would love to hear some new Van Halen music one day. The Van Halen talk is from 0:48 – 2:17:

    All of us want!

  • Herb

    Ditto

  • ben

    EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Matty Van Halen

    I WANT SOME TOO!!!!

  • John

If Eddie is worried about people going to the bathroom during new music he should just put the bass solo back in the setlist! LOL

  • daveman5150

    Join the friggin’ club, man.

  • http://mgmgrand.com Todd VW

    Hell, join the club, Junior..

  • Tommy Boy

    That was awesome…love that show.
Those guys are cool…but I always watch it just to see if someone might show up…
Hopefully he’ll hear the calling and show up and talk about the new stuff instead of explaining why it took so long. But I’m sure that’ll be part of the conversation…

    Peace guys n gals!

  • Greg

SERIOUSLY EDDIE MAKE SOME NEW MUSIC!! Life is short dude, you’ve blown over a decade of your legacy. You’re so wrong if you think we don’t want new music!

  • Dooley

    Make it so…

  • Matteau23

    the drumbeat is building….

the best line of this whole thing “isn’t Van Halen the one band that could…” Nothing more needed there.. the answer is yes.. no matter what the rest of the question is…

  • Scott

    Bring sexy back?

  • dude

Fingers crossed … Unfortunately, here are three guys who are fairly in-tune with the industry yet they know as much as we do!

  • Scottso

Let’s be real… the best time to hit the restroom is during the drum solo because you can still hear it, and it’s not like Alex (or any drummer) is running around the stage doing anything visually cool.

That said, I hope Eddie realizes just how badly we all want to hear new VH tunes. Let’s Get Rockin’ !!!

  • Jack

CHEESE-N-RICE PEOPLE! There is new or unheard music. The sequel to VH3 that wasn’t released. I would have loved to hear that. However, VH3 wasn’t good enough for anyone. I can see why the man doesn’t want to stick his neck out again. I thoroughly enjoy what the man has contributed, and that’s good enough for me.

  • http://vhnd Emery

People forget that Ed wants to make new stuff with his son. But there just not going to put out something new just to do it. I`m sure when it comes it will be top shelf.

  • Nope

Wishful thinking. Face it, “the dream is over.”

  • Adrian

I can feel it coming in the air… Theres stories of people hinting, asking, begging its gonna happen. If Ed went on that metal show all the assholes would call him a freak if he answered a question wrong or something

  • Beau

I am one of those people who kinda liked Van Halen III. Not my favorite, but it wasn’t the WORST thing to ever hit the airwaves. (Jonas Brothers? Lady GaGa?) But I don’t think Ed would “flop” again. Hell, everybody has one bad day/month/year/what have you. Now that Dave is back in the fold, I think Ed and the guys could really hit it out of the park, and maybe even put a dent in “fixing” the industry. And it would be great if Ed took Don’s advice and made “nicey nice” with Mikey! (I can dream, can’t I?)

In any case, thanks very much for the all of music Ed, but please come back when you’re ready – we miss you!

  • Dooley

    Jack:

you said “I thoroughly enjoy what the man has contributed, and that’s good enough for me.”

Then maybe Ed should make it official and retire. Or get on the stick and produce something aside from merchandise. But this “we got 10 albums worth of stuff put away” crap has got to stop. To those on this site who say Ed doesn’t owe us anything. Yes he does, like a dose of reliable communication. Like any successful professional musician, he’d be nothing without the fans. Did he forget that?

  • dlrevhsh

everyone just be patient im sure there is new music coming im 100% sure.

  • http://vhnd.com whatever whiners

Dooley, wake up and join the real world, cause the man truly owes you or anyone of us anything. you really think he doesnt have the right to sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor and cash out on what he’s done in the past? for christ sakes they are in the H.O.F . usually when people in other business go into ther respective H.O.F they are done and then capitalize on there names and past accomplishments. i do think we will here something reasonably soon, but he doesnt owe us shit.

  • http://none atomicfriendo

Deja vu, I’ve heard this tune a few time before. If they are going to do an new album, please bring Mikey back. (sorry Wolfie, its not you ,its me)

  • Matt from Australia

I think VH will eventually release something, but who knows when? When they do, EVH knows we’ll all be there buying the album buy the truckload – once again taking the fans for granted!
I just wish they would do something…like updating the “official” website, thats just plain embaressing (new years is over guys – its now the middle of the year).

  • mjc

dooley i could’nt have said it better.

  • John

There is no chance for M/A to reunite with this band, Ed’s bond with his son is too strong. Sorry.

  • D L R

What I wouldn’t do to hear “Look at all the people here tonight I say” again on a live stage with new tunes. I hate what happened with Mikey as much as the next guy, that being said Wolf needs to kick his Dad and Uncle in the ass to get the new album out.

  • MICAL VEE

For those of you who say…if VAN HALEN doesnt bring out anything new,oh well, cant be a die hard fan like i am!!! When ME WISE MAGIC came out in ’96 i loved it!!! It’s a shame they didnt get back with dave then and record a whole album. I for one am ready for new VH tunes. The night i saw VAN HALEN in ’07 and they rocked the house, when the show was over i wasnt ready to leave! I wished they would have played every tune they wrote with dave!!! The die hard fans are ready for box sets, dvd classic concerts and new material. Give the people what they want eddie!!! Think about it,the classic VH only released 6 killer albums from ’78 to ’84. No live album or video’s in between! The oakland ’81 video’s are not even on the best of dvd videos! what the hell!!! Thank GOD for the bootlegs!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pete

    Duh.

  • ClubfootKolby

VANHALEN THREE AS AN OK CD, IT HAD SOME GREAT MUSIC, THEY NEEDED SAMMY SINGING.

  • pete

considering that eddie and alex have started and not finished albums in 1999 with gary,2001 with dave and 2004 with sammy im thinking there isnt anything coming our way.

  • http://vhnd The Booger Man

Ed get yer butt on the Trunk show. LOL

Hey, nobody said hi to Zakk. Wussup Zakk!

  • Joe

    Jack,

Remember nothing ventured, nothing gained. VH3 was not well received, but they did what they wanted to do and tried it. Gosh…for someone to not want to stick out their neck spells “scared to death to hurt my ego” to me.

  • =VH=OZ

I don’t think MA will be part of any future VH music. Mike didn’t even play bass on the greatest hits album’s new songs!!

But if the original 3; Eddie, Dave & Alex are there, then thats good enough for me. Though I would prefer Mike playing bass, Wolfgang did a phenomenal job on bass and backing vocals!! For a 16 year (at the time) to get up and cut it with the greatest guitarist of all time, the greatest frontman of all time and the most powerful drummer, plus facing 20+ thousand hardcore VH fans every night, man I take my hat off, this kid can play!! Respects go to Wolfie!!
I am as much as Eddie, Dave & Alex would be, excited about how Wolfie would sound on new VH music. Van Halen know it and they don’t need to be reminded, the time for some new VH music is needed. It’s good for the health!!

LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!

  • ROBct

Zakk is the man and a true rocker who loves what he does and loves his fans! If Eddie doesn’t want to release new stuff, fine! Give us a DVD box set of all your live shows!
And as for “people heading to the beer stands when you play new music”, listen, I’ve played in bands for 15 years and that is just part of the gig for everyone! EVH is not immune to this so he might as well suck it up! We all go through it and it’s just a crap shoot! Write the best possible song you can for yourself firsr and let it fly!

  • Phil

    Take a number.

  • http://www.vhnd.com Pat G.

I agree with the “Metal Show” guys about the fans needing new stuff from VH and Mike needing to be back in the band, but Ed WILL NEVER allow Mike to play in VH again. The world knows Mike got the shaft, but he has moved on to CF and seems to be doing fine. I am starting to lose hope of any new material coming from VH in the future. All they want to do is keep teasing us with tidbits of new saying “the album is coming” and then all we get is Eddie hawking all of his guitar shit. Plug one of those bitches into an amp and ROCK AND ROLL, dude!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • coolhand71

I just consider VH retired that way I dont keep waiting for new music.
I really wish they would put out some kind of retrospective DVD type deal though. I dont see them doing it because they would have no way of making M.A. disapear.
Maybe they could look in to some new technology that would superimpose Wolfie into classic clips from the 70′s & 80′s
Then maybe we might see something.

  • phillster

Coming off a little bitter “coolhand”

  • Scissor-Kickin’ Davey Lee

No way in hell that a Hall of Fame band like the mighty VH will go out on a shitty note like “VH 3″…..a new album & tour with Dave is the only respectable career-ender at this point. It’s virtually impossible for a Roth-led Van Halen to make crappy music. “Me Wise Magic” may not compare to anything on those first six legendary VH albums, but it was way better than anything else coming out in 1996.

Let’s just hope the rumors are true and Edward and Dave are back to fighting with each other and creating some truly kick-ass music to ignite the world on fire once again.

  • mark

This is my thoughts on Van Halen. (1) New music nothing would surprise me more but not looking for it. (2) Wolfie I saw the reuion with Sam and Dave ( 04 &07 ) background vox much better in the 04 but Ed played beter in 07 I would think because of drugs and drink. (3) Removing Mike from the history sealed the deal for me what a buch of children . (4) and maybe the most improtant, they trat there fans like shit! in this day and age they should be having there people update the fan base but of course we just don’t matter to them but are we not the fans that made them rock stars and made them the money ? I for one am glad Mike is in with Sam because I do not think Van Halen’s ego and fan base will
ever recover from the history of this mess they made. Thanks for the music it was great and memories last forever. But I willl be moving on!

Any band that has been around for over 30 years is going to disappoint some fans at one time or another. It’s like being married for 30 years…..was it all smiles?
This is why I dont believe in marriage and why I dont take things so personal when it comes to my favourite rock groups. It’s a waste of time. Be thankful for all the years of great music and take a hike….
