Chickenfoot: Second album update & new video

Lots of Chickenfoot news lately:

1) Second album update from Reuters.com:

Chickenfoot steps toward second album

DETROIT (Billboard) – Its all-star members may be working on other projects — the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album for Chad Smith, solo sets for Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani — but Chickenfoot has already started work on its sophomore album.

“This time around it doesn’t seem too scary to try to pull it off,” guitarist Satriani says. “We know we’ve done it once. The whole scheduling thing doesn’t scare us like it did last time. We’re more relaxed about the fact everyone has got crazy schedules and know that when we do get together, it’s really fun.”

The quartet, which also includes former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, had a “very productive” session in April, before the launch party for the group’s concert DVD, “Get Your Buzz On Live,” at Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Chickenfoot will spend most of September working on the album, then reconvene in late January and early February for “wrap-up sessions,” with a spring 2011 release planned, again via Best Buy.

Satriani says he expects to have “probably 20 (more) songs to lay on everybody when we get together again.” A producer hasn’t yet been chosen for the album, but Andy Johns and Mike Fraser, who both worked on 2008′s “Chickenfoot” debut, are leading candidates.

2) New show announced – Sept 11, 2010 at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe. This will probably be their last show of 2010.

3) Cabo Webcast video archives: Four songs from the May 2010 Cabo Wabo show are now available for your streaming enjoyment (standard or high def). If you want to go full screen follow the link in the bottom right since Facebook blocks that. Watch them here.

The four songs are: Soap On A Rope, Sexy Little Thing, My Kinda Girl, and Oh Yeah!

4) Chickenfoot’s new video:

Haven’t checked out the new music video for “My Kinda Girl” yet?

And while we’re at it, a short clip of Chad Smith asking people about Chickenfoot:

Panama you’re spot on.. but the real answer is plain and simple.. its not a Chickenfoot vs. VH thing.

Its a Dave vs. Sammy thing, pure and simple. If Chickenfoot was just a Mikey project you wouldnt read a negative word about it here.

There are three camps on this website.

Those who support Dave and never liked Sammy = hate chickenfoot

Those who support Sammy and didn’t like Dave = Love Chickenfoot

Those who like Both Dave and Sammy: probably split right down the middle on liking Chickenfoot.

Pretty simple – As long as there are people on this site that continue to bash VH on the Chickenfoot articles, then there will always be a bunch of negative crap that comes up.

If VH never releases new music, will the haters eventually leave this site? Just a thought…

Van Halen owes us nothing. Maybe they have retired on the wealth of music they have given us from ‘78 to ‘04. Everyone deserves to quit working at some point. My dad retired 10 years ago and he never updates me on the work he is never gonna complete
    ————————————–

the BIG differance is that ed has NOT announced retirement. he keeps saying he’ll do something,, thats a hell of a lot different than saying you’re done.

thats all we ever ask- a straight answere.

  • Jor-L5150

F*CK and A LITTLE AINT ENOUGH came out in 91.
VH3 and MTM and DLR:best / DLRband came out at about the same time.

i like that the different camps keep broadening the VH tent.

Wow….I can clearly see the reason I havent even bothered to visit this site lately. Opinions are plenty, but many of you sound like a bunch of low class morons. I cannot believe how many posts I’ve read where all I could do was shake my head and say to myself: what the fuck happend to all these so called VH fans??
This one complains(as usual)about no new material….the other one complains that people who dont like chickenfoot are haters(fuck you pal….it’s called taste!)…then someone had the balls to complain about the VH mix 5 or whatever cause there was a snippet of classic roth giving his “I’m gonna fuck your girlfriend ” speech and his wittle kid was in the room and that upset him! Guess what buddy? NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR KIDS!!! THIS IS A VH WEBSITE!!
SEX, DRUGS, COLD BEER, WARM JACK, AND ROCK AND ROLL!!!!
Hate to tell you…but if your kids in school he”s already heard WORSE then what dave said back in 1983!
And whats with these comments towards roth the scissor kicker telling him that “we’ve all grown up why havent you” shit? Cause he’s a ROTH fan!? Sammy’s music is more mature?
Fuckin’ boring and whiney if you ask me. I’ve never heard someone constantly scream during a song when it’s not needed….christ! Can we hear mikes bass? Chad’s drums? Not really. Half the time all you hear is that annoying scream ruining anything that might even sound like a decent jam….but what the fuck would I know right? I’m a classic Vh fan….stuck in the past….wishin’ it was still the late 70′s early 80′s…..YOU’RE GODDAMN RIGHT! It was better time when good music wasnt backed by a lame movie shown in one theater….when concerts werent sponsered by brussel sprouts and energy drinks. I miss the balls out approach to music.
But im ranting, and some of you are gonna rip me a new one, but keep in mind that I dont have enough middle fingers and in the longrun I guess I’ll just roll with those punches to get to whats real.

One of the more entertaining comments I’ve seen in a while has to go to Jim’s quip that just the thought of new VH music is better than anything CF could do. Well, Jim, enjoy listening to that thought.

  • whambamsam

Funny that when Sam or Mikey sez they are working on their next album, I ACTUALLY BELIEVE IT…wish I could say the same for ol’ “Hermit Van Halen”. I think Ed’s full of shit when he sez he hasn’t heard Chickenfoot…he WISHES that he, Al, Dave, and Wolf could put out an album that good…

    Bring on FOOT II…OH, YEAH!!

You are a shitty van halen fan…..

I bet you were a follower your whole life.

Brother….you nailed it on the head!

    Great post.

  • Dooley

Welcome back Duck, long time no quack. I understand your exasperation with some of the dweebs who post here. And I think you get it that most of us Redheads are actually looking forward to the increasing possibility of something new and exciting (not more merchandise) from the VH camp.

We can still differ when we have to. Sam doesn’t ruin anything with his vocals. His pipes are his strength. Mike’s bass and Chad’s drums aren’t squelched at all.

  • Jeremy

I’ve been gone for months and it’s the same old shit!

My classic Van Halen can kick your current Chickenfoots ass!

My David Lee Roth can outsing your Sammy Hagar!

My Alex Van Halen can outdrum your Chad Smith and David Lauser!

My Wolfie can outplay and sing better backgrounds than your Mikey!

And last but not least, the almighty Eddie Van Halen can outplay your Joe Satriani and Vic Johnson on guitar!

    (Read the big letters next)

WHO GIVES A FLYING FUCK AND A RATS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1978-1996 was the best part of my life in terms of Van Halen making music. Greatest hits songs were great as well.

1996-until now, the music from Van Halen is so-so and far and few in between.

!973-until now, Sammy Hagar has made music I’ve enjoyed, be it Montrose, solo, HSAS, Van Halen, solo, Planet US, The Wabos, and now Chickenfoot.

I like classic Playboy when women looked like women, not all plastic, but do you think I’m not going to look at a naked woman in Playboy? Still do and no complaints!

I also like classic porn when porn was about the sex and not how nasty you can be or how everything is orchestrated to look “sexy”!

My point is simple, enjoy it all! If Van Halen releases a CD, cool, if not then make it official your done!

If Chickenfoot releases a CD in January, cool as well. I love their debut CD, saw them live in Detroit and bought the DVD.

The problem here on this site is that only one opinion matters and that’s those who think classic Van Halen is what rules the world. Correction here people, it USED to and that was then, this is now.

Music isn’t about being the loudest, the fastest, it’s about connecting to those who feel it.

The problem with Eddie saying that he doesn’t want to make music so people can steal it or whatever else is weird because everything Eddie has released up until 1996(not including greatest hits songs) has been platinum many times over. One flop here with VH3 and all of a sudden he’s spooked?

To be honest here and not trying to start stuff, but I think he can’t relate to Dave anymore. All those years apart is hard to gain trust to write a song or to do anything. Yes they toured in 2007, but no press, no interviews or anything. After the tour ended, we’ve heard nothing.

With Sammy, Eddie could be himself to a point and experiment and Sammy was cool with it. Dave had a way of doing a song his way, as did all of them, but Dave had to have Eddie’s guitar tuned down so it wouldn’t drown him out.

So with that said, Chickenfoot is doing what we all are accustomed to and that’s putting out music, releasing DVD’s and updating the fans. I remember back in the day the only way to get any news about a band was either from Circus, Hit Paradar, or Metal Edge about any band. Or from some hippy dude in a music store about the new album. Somewhere along the line Van Halen lost touch with that classic side of being a band, and let’s hope they find it.
